“The sacrifice of the spirit to God is broken; the heart is broken; and humbly God does not humiliate” Ps. 50:19 A wonderful poster for the film, a great script, production work, costumes, makeup, music, excellent camera finds. A good acting performance by Orlando Bloom (Malcolm), especially impressed by the stunning confession scene.
The topic of violence, of course, is very important, for which the authors of this film are very grateful. But speaking of violence, we need to understand that rapists are often mentally ill people, in fact incurable. So can we judge the sick severely and resent them? It is sad that victims of violence can suffer mental trauma for life.
Malcolm (Orlando Bloom) is a simple village boy who loved God since childhood, respected the church and priests. But once he was abused, receiving a severe mental trauma, after which Malcolm becomes hardened on everyone, becomes an apostate. Malcolm goes into all seriousness, struggling with his sense of experienced humiliation, sparing no one in anger. His only and tender love is for his mother. Finally, the case gives him the opportunity to meet with his personal abuser again, and it turns out that behind the guy’s deep resentment of God and the church, there was an unforgivable resentment against a particular person – it was she who prevented him from living and finding peace of mind. It is not easy to come to the forgiveness of a guy, but sincerely forgiving the offender, humbled by his spirit, a person returns to his original. “I want everything to be the same,” Malcolm often says. And he has been looking for years for his return, then everything else falls into place.
Closing your eyes to excessive intimate scenes and heavy scenes of violence in the film, it is worth watching.
