Fatal attraction When I started watching Saara Kantel’s 2016 film The Devil’s Bride, I expected to see a standard horror movie. However, from the first minutes of viewing it became clear that this picture is very different from the already familiar Hollywood works.
The painting became a joint production of Sweden, Norway, Latvia and Finland. This fact is very noticeable in the architecture and local color of the film. The main roles were also performed by actors little known to the world, but this did not prevent them from coping with their task 100%.
The viewer in all colors shows the real horror of the time of the Inquisition. I've never seen so much tin before. There are no horrifying screamers or special effects. The picture is shown very realistically and this makes it even more terrifying. The storyline twists in the most inconceivable way, jumping from one story to another. Here is a love story, and the arbitrariness of power, and the most terrible is the crimes on the part of the priest.
In the courtyard of the XVII century, somewhere far away, on a small island of the Baltic Sea, live ordinary people. Their lives have long been established: men go to work on a large land, and women remain on the farm and raise children. Here little is known about civilization and modern medicine, so, in case of illness, turn to the local midwife Walpurge. Their modest idyll does not last long, and a witch hunt begins all over Scandinavia. A new power is coming to the island. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Anna, raised by Walpurga, falls in love with the husband of her friend Rakel. Despite the fact that they recently had a second child with Elias, she decides by any means to achieve the favor of her beloved. Soon, through a slight twist, she manages to get a loved one. There is no funny passion between Anna and Elias. Of course, this is not hidden from Raquel's eyes. The woman begs not to ruin their marriage and hints that this is not the first time, the husband will still return to her. And then the beloved began to cool. In anger, Anna decides on a terrible sin and, using her official position, accuses her rival of witchcraft.
The first half-hour of viewing was very difficult to catch the plot and semantic production. But then the picture began to come together and threw me into a real shock. After watching, I could not gather my thoughts and write this review, rushing from positive to negative, I still remained with a good opinion.
I wish you a pleasant view!
