After watching “The Case of the Brave”, it immediately becomes clear that in a more complex genre dramatic construction than a spectacular blockbuster, the talented visionary Joseph Kosinski can not yet. I understand that they tried to pay tribute to these really heroic and brave guys, but why is it so boring? Here you have great actors, powerful drama and a real story – great! If you want to make realism, for God’s sake, you should not forget about the cinematic component, because this is not a documentary. That same Fincher actually chronicled the events in the Zodiac, feel the difference. Or Ron Howard, please, did the best, yes, exactly that the best film about firefighters back in the 90s, and there is also drama and household (okay, there is a boy detective) - but it looks like you do not come off and experience over the edge.
Here everything is so schematic, empty, fresh and banal, and the director does not even try to somehow brighten it up, present it so that the viewer bites his elbows. Everything is built according to the scheme: call-work-house (household-dwellers) and so on in a circle until the very end. There is no heat, no rod that would stick a marked nail into the trunk. The artists here are all good, where do not point, and in the images look natural, but they have nothing to play here at all. The only moment that really makes it through is the final, and the moment itself could be arranged, in my opinion, more spectacularly and powerfully. The fire scenes are well done, given the small budget and the use of graphics, but the above-mentioned “Reverse traction”, of course, not reach. In general, the movie looks like, but on such material you could make a bomb, and it turned out just “seeable”. How standard was Team 49 with Phoenix and Travolta, and it looks better. In my opinion, the director was not honest here. It's too linear, you can't do that.
When the film does not live up to expectations, you involuntarily think: it looks like it for two hours, and the script was worked on. a little longer. After all, there was a whole team of professionals who had to carefully study the biographies of firefighters, whose fate was going to be filmed, communicated with their families, created reliable screen images ... what and where went wrong?
I'll explain. The film is a typical patriotic American film about chanting its local heroes. Heroism has no nationality, and the idea of self-sacrifice in the face of danger should be, if not close, then at least understandable to most people. To evoke emotions, a moment of that reverent silence, an internal revaluation of values. And we have - a really heavily filmed climactic finale and two hours of shaky, wobbly developing tedious foreplay. But if the finale of the film is in fact an event that took place, in itself breaking through on emotions and empathy, then two hours of “artistic” nudity, which was supposed to reveal to us the main characters, make friends with us with them, is a complete facade of writers.
We have a typical “combat father”, his beautiful, but (not without reason) having a lot of claims to him wife, Miles Teller in the role of a bad boy (the only more or less clearly spelled out role, a character who “takes out” any plot about the change and formation of personality) and a crowd of extras. Oh, sorry, the team of firefighters that this movie is about. In just two hours, the writers do absolutely nothing to turn this faceless crowd into living, real, close to you people whose fate you care about. In fact, in this film, the credits are strongest, on which real photos of the prototypes of history are shown, and the cinema itself does not cope with this task.
That is why I am completely perplexed by the delights and such a high rating. Guys, the film flares with American patriotic pathos, but from an artistic point of view it is frankly weak. Sorry for the time spent, the heroes do not catch any... It is better to watch the film "Fire" with Khabensky, Yankovsky and Zhiznevsky in the lead roles. In terms of drama and tension, he is not inferior at all, but at least ours.
I watch this movie often, just to get the same emotion I never got before. It is difficult to describe, it is associated with a cunning interweaving of fate and redemption. I am always convinced that any person, firstly, is able and can be corrected, and secondly, this happens only in the combination of a number of reasons, factors and resources of which are events and people. Because you don’t always have the strength to redeem yourself or fix something in life alone. Therefore, the people who surround you or who just meet on the way come into action, as well as the chain of events that led to the place where you are now standing.
For me, the film is more about this, and the real story of the brigade of firefighters fighting a natural disaster, taken as a basis, is more entourage, which allows including for a while to learn the technical aspects of this difficult craft, to experience the unbearable loads that rescuers experience and feel the heat from the fire on the bone, which, like the ice avalanche, also sweeps away all life in its path.
When I watched the domestic film “Fire” with Khabensky, I made small notes in my head on the topic “how I would make the plot better”. And then I watched The Brave Case and realized that someone definitely dug into my head.
Jokes and jokes, but "The Case" really perfectly fulfills its function as an American film about American firefighters fighting American fires. This atmosphere is supported by the features of work closely related to politics, and the problems of the main characters, and musical accompaniment.
The plot is quite typical for this kind of film. We are shown a small town in which everyone knows each other and a squad of local firefighters who have difficulty recruiting staff due to the flow to more delicious places. And finally, Captain Josh Brolin, whom everyone calls "Batya", decides to get the necessary certification and become with his squad the first specialists in the state. In this global plot wedges a local drug addict who decides to change his life and become a responsible father - and for this purpose joins Brolin's squad. A little "all-metal shell" never bothered anyone, yeah. ..
Otherwise, the content of the film is extinguishing fires, talking about the problems of harsh men, family conversations and some drama. Everything in adequate proportions, boredom does not have time - almost all scenes are necessary to reveal the characters, especially when you consider that the film still tells about the fate of real firefighters (which for me personally became a very emotional addition already in the credits).
Thus, a worthy drama under the guise of a disaster film.
That’s the job of firefighters, throwing themselves into the heat and saving people, and in this case nature, because our heroes put out forest fires. The main characters are essentially two Brendan McDonagh (Miles Teller) and Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin). The first is a drug addict who wants to live a better life and is going to become a firefighter, and the second is the head of the fire brigade, who will give Eric real trials. But most of the film will tell about the team itself, although there are 20 people, most at least a little, but it turned out to be revealed.
Let’s talk about some of the characters and the main ones. Miles Teller has already proved that he is a good enough actor who chooses roles that are not always successful in such films as the Fantastic Four and the Divergent franchise. Now on account of his great films, where he plays the main roles: Obsession, Guys with Guns and Pazman Devil. In my opinion, his role is the best. Brendan is a drug addict who has a son with a girl who doesn’t want to know him for obvious reasons. He decided to pull himself together, forget drugs and get a job as a firefighter. The path that the hero walked is worthy of praise. But ahead will be the most dangerous meeting with the fire, which will affect the entire team, the head of which was the hero Brolin.
Eric Marsh has long been in office and his team could only put out minor fires. But at a time when huge wildfires were raging in Arizona, Eric wanted permission to extinguish just such fires, that is, to become the first line of defense. The whole team is ready to throw themselves into hell for the sake of saving people, and you look at their sacrifice with admiration. The hero of Josh Brolin is a very good person who can always come to the rescue, he also loves his wife, with whom everything is not always smooth, and maintains friendly relations with the whole team when they are not on duty.
A story about heroes based on real events should stay in your hearts for a long time. The plot is interesting, dramatic and can sometimes bring to tears. The cast is also impressive, based on Josh Brolin and Miles Teller, as well as Jeff Bridges, Taylor Kitsch (who is not recognized at all) and Jennifer Connelly. The film is worth the money spent and the time spent. Required to watch, and as for all films based on real events, it is better not to know these events, because the effect of the picture may not be so strong.
It is difficult to explain, but sometimes we see things not as they are, but as we want them to be. -
Over the years of a pandemic raging on our planet, we have become accustomed to the expression that doctors are the heroes of our time. But without begging for their merits, there are others worthy of this unofficial status. We don’t know much about them, but almost every day they risk their lives to save others. And we're talking about firefighters. So Columbia Pictures studio was interested in an article by Sean Flynn, telling about the heroic and sad fate of the fighters of the fire brigade "Granite Mountain Hotshots", who in 2013 arrived in the forests of Arizona to extinguish and felt the wrath of the dispersed elements. And in 2014, it was already announced the beginning of preparations for filming: Ken Nolan first began to adapt the article to the film adaptation (Black Hawk (2001), Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)), then Eric Warren Singer (International (2009), American Hustle (2013) joined the same work. For some time, the project underwent changes in the cast, for example, the director changed, but in 2017 the film was released on screens, called “The Case of the Brave.”
So, a small, but very cozy and bright town Prescott is located at the foot of a mountain range with hectares of virgin forest. But behind these embellishments there is a great danger: a dry windy climate often brings fires, which then develop into serious fires. So in the town, under the leadership of the characteristic and active Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin), a civilian fire brigade is formed. Under Marsh’s training, they turn into highly skilled professionals, but the authorities are slow to enlist them in the personnel of US firefighters. But in the fight against fire, Marsh fighters show their best side, proving their worth. This event is celebrated as a celebration at the city level. Meanwhile, Eric Marsh takes on the team Brandon McDonagh (Miles Teller), who had problems with the law due to addiction to drugs, but the pregnancy of a friend forced him to change his attitude towards life. And working side by side with hard-working firefighters and under the supervision of the highly experienced Eric Marsh turns ‘Bublik’, such a nickname was given to Brendan, into a completely different person, into a real man.
When you see in the composition of some of the most brutal actors of Hollywood – Josh Brolin and Jeff Bridges – even at the subconscious level you realize that testosterone will literally ooze from the screen. And in addition to these honored and respected actors, "The Case of the Brave" gathered the already mentioned Miles Teller, then Jennifer Connelly, Andy McDowell and Taylor Kitsch. By itself, such a magnificent acting ensemble attracts attention, given the fact that Brolin, Bridges, Connelly carefully approach the choice of roles and rarely films with their participation cause critical or audience indignation. Miles Teller strives in this series, who does not flaunt on the screen his attractive appearance, but tries to convince the audience of his acting talent. And he was great in Obsession (2013), and now he can unintentionally record himself as an asset and a donut in The Case of the Brave. But in order not to paint the game of each of the films for a long time, you can succinctly indicate that everyone here is in his place and everyone expressively and very cleverly embodied the character.
And it should be understood to every potential viewer that in the case of the brave will not be all the timekeeping is focused on the episodes of fighting fires, there is something different. We will be given the life of those who dedicated it to the battle with fire. So gradually we will learn more and more about Eric Marsh and his relationship with his wife. And thus we understand the nuances of the character of the head of the fire brigade, understand why he trained his guys so hard and why no one ever expressed his displeasure, if at all. Bridges, by the way, is not so much in the picture, but each appearance adorns the picture and adds that sincere brutality. And he got a folding duet with Connelly, which in strength and complexity of character is unlikely in anything inferior to the screen spouse, but it was clear that they were created for each other. And Teller perfectly understood the chance he was given, so when the final phase of the film comes, you literally experience those terrible and tragic emotions with him. And because of this film, "The Case of the Brave" came out so bold, but at the same time courageous, and honest, and sad.
It is even strange that in the year of its release, the drama “The Case of the Brave”, based on real events, did not receive wide publicity and only the audience “word of mouth” spread the news that a new worthy film has appeared that makes us think about our purpose in life and about those people who surround us, but for some reason we do not notice them and sometimes do not pay attention to their merits before ourselves. And it is impossible not to mention once again the brilliant play of the entire cast, when you want to shake the courageous hand of Josh Brolin, embrace and encourage Miles Teller, watch how Jennifer Connelly treats horses, and wish success to Taylor Kitsch.

It’s great to make films in memory of tragedies dedicated to specific people. Their valor, their feat. Perhaps death from the struggle against the elements will seem ridiculous, superfluous, which can always be avoided if you take measures to do so - and, for example, do not choose the dangerous profession of a fireman - but in fact, death is ridiculous in itself and a "beautiful" or "reasonable" death is as oxymoron as an "ice flame". There is only one difference between “ordinary” and “professional” death: the difference is that professionals choose their own fate, consciously put themselves at risk, while the average person never knows where and how they will find their outcome. But in the conscious choice of a dangerous profession there is always an element of the game, there is a desire to look beyond the edge, to become initiated into some secret of life inaccessible to other people.
Everything that threatens death,
For the heart of death is tai...
Inexplicable pleasures -
Immortality, perhaps a pledge!
And happy is he who is in the midst of excitement.
He could find them and know them.
The film was very pleased with the lack of excessive pathos. You know how it is loved by filmmakers, when shooting a picture associated with the specifics of any field of activity, will certainly go to the extreme in the description of the hero, so that the viewer is no longer a person, but a demigod or maniac. Here we managed to avoid the hyperbolization of personalities and show ordinary people, with all their imperfections, unthinkable and realistic.
A team of Arizona firefighters is seeking a license to secure their status as specialists. If previously they worked as militias of the rear, not taking risks on the front lines, doing rough work, but ingloriously and with a reduced budget, now they will have to justify the title of “major league”, which is not only dangerous, but also with a catastrophic shortage of time for personal life. Many of them are torn between duty and family obligations. For some, on the contrary, this job is a chance to make a difference by starting over. But all of them are reconciled with reality by the opportunity to challenge the forces of nature and save themselves to come out victorious, get a charge of adrenaline and a portion of short glory, so that tomorrow – without finding understanding with loved ones or giving a vow that “the last time” – everything happened again. But sometimes these victories are very expensive.
Context changes everything. The review was almost written. And then there was the end of the story. . .
Because this review is not written for an American audience familiar with the context, some readers will not know the ending. This has a profound effect on perception.
'It is difficult to write a review of a film that is dedicated to a respected and dangerous profession. It is initially protected by conscience and public opinion. How can you criticize something that tells about heroism, a socially useful profession and brave people?' This is how the review began.
But the finale required a reassessment of the film itself, and review: you need to be more careful and respectful of the memory of the characters about whom the film tells.
A few more reservations should be made. This review is dedicated to the film. As far as possible, the author tried to abstract from the real story. The film is evaluated as an independent product, as a result of the work of the director, operators, screenwriters, producers, actors.
The real-life drama that took place with a squad of Arizona firefighters from the Granit Mountain Forestry Squad causes sorrow and sadness. And that's not discussed.
But since the author of the review did not know the context initially, the review is presented, if possible, from the position of an unenlightened viewer. At the same time, it is difficult to abstract completely. And the film is still connected with the real story, refers to it. In general, the situation for reviewing is difficult.
'The Case of the Brave' begins as a film about forest firefighters and their difficult profession. Moreover, not so long ago was released in rental Russian film & #39; Fire & #39; also about firefighters. Knowing the domestic trends in the use of Western experience, to the plot ' Cases of the Brave' there were certain prejudices that turned out to be, in the end, wrong.
In big dramatic films, American (perhaps not only American) screenwriters often fall into operation ' national lifestyle' prefer to walk beaten paths and use win-win scenario moves. For a big film with such a heavy background, they did not deviate from this rule - it is too dangerous to experiment.
And yet, for the uninitiated viewer, the script for the film seems so weak and full of cliches that watching it is endlessly boring. There is pathetic in almost every scene. And it is understandable, again, given the context, but what to do to the viewer who is not familiar with the context?
And here it is worthwhile to understand that 'The Case of the Brave' is a film about American firefighters and for an American audience. The foreign audience seems superfluous here. This is a tragic page in the history of America, and it requires a certain intimacy. That is why the film is not interesting to an outside viewer.
At least half of the film consists of typical American templates. For those who selflessly lust for the American dream, perhaps all these cliches will appeal to the taste, but for the sophisticated critically thinking public shown in the film, the clicked scenes are so recognizable that they cause a whole wave of indignation inside. It would seem, how much can you shoot the same with different actors and in different sets? But the American film press with a soulless constancy stamps these similar pictures. The themes, locations, actors change in them, but they all fit into the same elements that make up these films. On the other hand, knowing the context of a particular story forces the real person and his fate to be kept in mind behind each scene. And what is shown is perceived differently. What is it: the manipulation of our consciousness or the authors of the film?
The characters of the film (this word should be emphasized) are also blatantly predictable and do not surprise the viewer. But again, context comes to the rescue. Understanding the situation, I want to be silent and keep my mouth shut.
While watching the film, even before the finale, did not leave the idea that the production ' Case of the Brave' was a state order to support firefighters. The state order was worked out. Speaking of which, we have budgeted. Literary and artistic tasks were not set before the filmmakers.
There is such a thing as ' part-time '. This film seems to have been a part-time & #39 for the director and the rest of the cast. We got together, wrote the script, filmed, got the money and ran away. Order completed, work handed over, goodbye.
In three-quarters of the film, there was only one reflexive scene: the episode when a young father takes his daughter in his arms for the first time. The finale of the film, when you understand the ending, of course, touches and does not leave indifferent. There are also oddities with the behavior of the participants in the events, but, in general, the finale was shot well. We can say that most of the film was just a preparation for this finale.
It is difficult to resist a caustic attack on the address of the domestic film producer and the film customer, who shot ' their ' 'The case of the brave'. On the other hand, fires raged in Russia and Siberia in 2019. And we have firefighters who are busy extinguishing forest fires. In general, we had a certain social request for a similar film.
The only stylistic move of the authors 'Actions of the brave' which caused a second positive reaction is the use of a yellow filter.
Although it is worth admitting that the acting, and camera work, and scenes are well shot. The filmmakers are very professional. They know how to make movies. There is nothing to discuss here.
Almost from the very beginning of the viewing, it was possible to assume what awaits the viewer in the climax. However, the reality was worse than expectations. The best part of the film is the final credits to the accompaniment of documentary photographs. And it is these photos that evoke the most profound and piercing emotions.
As a tribute to the firefighters, of course, this film has the right to exist, but as an independent work of fiction in isolation from the context, it is frankly weak. Could this film have been made differently? It is difficult to answer.
Another question arises whether the film was a kind of apology to the authorities to firefighters, because in the information about the tragedy you can find references to the initial underestimation of the complexity of the fire. Also, it seems that none of the six special aircraft called could arrive (for various reasons) to extinguish the fire.
It seems that the memorial 'Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park' (free translation: Memorial in honor of the detachment ' Eagles of the Granite Mountain') is a better idea for perpetuating memory. Although, on the other hand, with the help of the film, the story spreads among people who did not know anything about it.
Summing up, we can conclude that the film is ambiguous and difficult to watch. The purpose of its creation at a specific historical moment is also unclear. Contradictory feelings.
Everyone has a chance. Are you ready to use it? Do you have time to change things and change yourself? These questions came to my mind after watching the movie.
Usually, after watching any movie, there is a trail of impressions. Negative or positive. And there's no detail, it's all on an emotional level. And sometimes even there is a desire to re-introduce and re-examine. Or do you sit there and think about when it will be over? After 'The Case of the Brave' I really wanted silence. The final song was still playing in my head. Well, it seems and came in a logical analysis of the details.
I'll start with the director. Kosinski impressed me with the film 'Oblivion'. Sustained atmosphere and a consistent, evolving storyline leading to the denouement. With the film 'The Case of the Brave' he managed to repeat. Not without the participation and created musical series. I won’t say that composer Joseph Trapenese is on hearing, but throughout the film I enjoyed the music pressing the right notes. The music here is not passing, it will stay with you forever.
In the story, a municipal, firefighting team fighting wildfires tries to get on the front lines to be as efficient as possible.
As one of the heroes said, I have never seen anything more terrifying and beautiful at the same time. I would have applied the same thing to this film. ' Terrifying' not to a production or a game, but to what happens on screen - fighting fire. And this perfectly reveals the characters of the film, including secondary. Here I did not notice any extra characters trampling on the background, only to create a movement. All the characters are in harmony. Playing actors is so easy and natural that you believe everything that happens. There were a couple of pretentious, replayed moments inserted, but there is a desire to forgive the director these moves, the genre still dictates. I don't like to talk about every character because I have to spoil. And now even movie trailers deprive intrigue of any film, managing to put even a denouement into the video. Marketing in movies is tragic. So that's all about heroes. I will only say that Miles Thaler, after ' Obsession' strengthened for me in ' The Case of the Brave' finally, as one of the best young actors to date. I was very pleased with the arrival of Andy McDowell. It was nice just to see her in the movie, somehow missed this actress. Josh Brolin and Jeff Bridges just no comment, they are mastodons, every shot with them is a pleasure.
In terms of entertainment, I really liked the picture. And the general plans and the looming scale of the disaster. I have never seen anything more terrifying and beautiful at the same time.
I have watched the movie 4 times already. The impression is still strong.

For the picture, for the music, for the emotional content.
Hard movie. I don’t know what to write without spoiling. Very high quality story on real events. And it's taken with the soul, and the aftertaste remains. Worth seeing.
For a long time I was going to evaluate the “Case of the Brave”, but I postponed everything for later. Many of my acquaintances had time to watch it before me and all noted that the film made them cry, and the most persistent to let a stingy tear in the finale. The picture is based on real events. The film takes place in Oregon during the season of forest fires, where they are extinguished by “specialists” – masters of their craft. One of these groups will be discussed.
From the very first minute we are shown a normal day of forest firefighters. Everything is calm and steady. Some would find such a demonstration of everyday routine boring, because A Case of the Brave is a hard movie to watch. It doesn’t have the kind of action that is present in all modern blockbusters. Therefore, for an ordinary person, such a film will seem uninteresting, but the attention of a more sophisticated viewer will definitely deserve and bind to himself.
In the center of the story is the “chief” of the team (Jeff Bridges) and a young guy (Miles Teller), who after the birth of his daughter embarked on the path of correction, quitting drugs. Moving along the plot, we learn the biography and past of the members of the Granite Mountain detachment. Our guys are ordinary residents of a small town who decided to become defenders of their home, choosing the path of forest firefighters. For the sake of their duty, they are ready to do everything that is shown in the picture. The culmination is a very emotional moment that cannot but touch. Even the most indifferent will not be able to look at the horror that happened to our characters. They died doing their duty like real heroes. Which they rightfully are.
What about the technical part of the film, everything is fine there: a beautiful picture, thanks to the masterful work of the operator; an excellent gluing of frames, the editor also did not stand aside and performed everything at the highest level; excellent sound, from soundtracks to sound, the sound operator tried to fame. This is what happens when the set is all laid out to get at the end of a worthwhile movie, which will not be ashamed to show the relatives of the specialists who died in that fire.
Especially I would like to note the slight accent made during the shooting of peaceful scenes, where the sounds of nature are clearly audible and stand out against the general background. Throughout the film, such moments gave me great pleasure, because they were made amazingly: the noise of the wind, the song of crickets and much more – all at the level at which there is a desire to go out on your own, close your eyes and feel the life of the surrounding nature.
I suggest everyone watch. The “Brave Case” deserves your attention. Watch an interesting movie and enjoy life.
In the face of danger, the main one who covers his back
'The Case of the Brave' is a biographical drama directed by Joseph Kosinski, based on a script by Ken Nolan. The script was based on an article by Sean Flynn ' No exit' published in GQ magazine. The film tells about the fire brigade 'Granite Mountain' who became the first municipal specialists of the 1st rank.
Plot. The main character of the film, Brendan McDonagh (Miles Teller), leads a disorderly personal life, as a result of which his girlfriend becomes pregnant. Deciding to give up his past life for the sake of his unborn child, he joins the fire squad ' Granite Mountain' under the guidance of obsessed Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin). From now on, he will have to go through many different events with his comrades.
Characters. Of course, the main focus is on the characters of Miles Teller and Josh Brolin. In the course of the story, the relationship between all members of the squad, their true male friendship, is revealed. 'No one is more proud of their children than I am of you' – Eric Marsh Each of them is ready to help each other in the face of danger.
Cinematography. Separately, I would like to mention the cameraman, who is Claudio Miranda, who worked with Joseph Kosinski on his two previous films. Claudio shows us not only the beautiful landscapes of Arizona, but also very skillfully conveys one of the main things in the film - not only the beauty of fire, but all its destructive elements.
Musical accompaniment. Music plays an equally important role, and composer Joseph Trapanese coped with his task on ' hurrah'. In moments of tension, music catches up on the skin, and in dramatic moments it touches the soul. In addition, in the finale of the film sounds a song by Dirks Bentley in collaboration with Scott Carey, which will not leave anyone indifferent.
In the end, I want to say that this film is a powerful drama about real heroes who do not spare their lives for the sake of the lives of others.
Oilmen, fishermen, firefighters – it seems that no profession associated with risk, did not go without the attention of Hollywood filmmakers. Movies of similar subjects are made on a grand scale, visual effects are plausible, the plot, as a rule, is based on real events, the content is patriotic.
In The Case of the Brave, we get acquainted with the workdays of the fire brigade from Arizona. Everything as usual: climbing the alarm clock, when the sunrise still glitters outside the window and the beloved snorts, checking the equipment, the road to work on a frisky SUV under good hard rock. The fire brigade, consisting of 20 people, is a well-coordinated and friendly team, according to the tradition of the genre, there are many comedians – well, you know what we are talking about: who and where what girl is, but this buffer has more, etc. Fatherly pats them on the shoulder, cheers, swears and runs with them crosses brave and fair Eric Marsh, whom the guys warmly call bate. He is played by Josh Brolin, one of the most colorful artists of his generation. The march successfully replenishes the glorious images of the gallery of brave bosses, tough outside, but romantic inside. That was Captain Billy Tyne in "Perfect Storm," oil platform chief Jimmy Harrell of "Deepwater Horizon" - bearded and mustachioed with muscular arms. And with exceptional fearlessness in the face of disaster! March with guys train in extinguishing fires without sparing themselves, but all because of being the best. The optimistic picture is broken only by the approaching certification, furious forest fires and a beginner with addictions, who decided to start everything from scratch. On these components, dramaturgy is built, clear, understandable, convincing, in general, not opening anything new, but, of course, not repulsive. This time, natural cataclysms do not pull over the blanket entirely, as often happens with disaster films, but synchronously coexist with human characters, where both an apparently measured life and a difficult choice coexist.
There are many beauties in the film that would easily decorate the cover of the blu-ray: magnificent landscapes with a sunset and without, hellish and picturesque fire, a graceful profile of a galloping heroine on a well-groomed horse. Of course, not without talking about life, where men are extremely verbose, and women, as always, require something. In place and traditional family gatherings-holidays, where necessarily someone is sad in the corner, and beer fools mixed with country melodies, which sings all the able Jeff Bridges. Perhaps someone tired of such textbook scenes, wandering from film to film. Maybe the disaster film genre needs a different, fresh look? After all, by the way, there was a detective and love affair in “Reverse traction”. However, I will not immediately imagine a film about the raging elements with an aesthetic film language, with heavy metaphors and parables. What is the drama "The Case of the Brave"? About courage and perseverance, about overcoming yourself. It's simple. Probably, this is the only way to talk about the feat: clearly, accessible, firmly, in something even primitive – “like, such work.” Yes, this is the lot of these 20 brave people who are not used to such alterations. Well, the viewer can only wait and hope for the best, as well as the relatives of those brave guys. That's all we can do.
It would seem, ' The Case of the Brave' a banal film about ' Courage' American citizens who are ready to do anything to save civilians. Pretty trivial. What's new here? It was with these words that my friends discouraged me from going to the movies. And you know what? I am a fool because I have listened to them.
This film is not just ' pathos' and ' a set of mainstream culture clichés' it is much more. Behind all this pattern hides the main essence of the film - feat 'little man'. Not only did the special unit #39;Granite Mountain' become the first U.S. municipal unit to be granted elite status, they preserved vast areas of the forest and saved many people from the ferocious force of nature. Many of us stop ourselves thinking ' I do not have enough strength, money, time ... who and who am I at all that it was under my power '
But these heroes are not of this number. And there are a lot of such examples. They proved that it is not money or chance that makes you a real person. Courage, self-confidence, and responsibility to others are what are so badly lacking in our lives. I would like to see such films more often, because it is thanks to the exploits of 'brave' we can feel safe and continue to live on.

American directors are very passionate about all sorts of things ' based on real events ' But not every tragedy needs to be put on the screen.'The case of the brave' a clear example of this. Let's figure it out.
1. Yes, tragedy. Absolutely pity these guys. I shed a tear. But they did nothing superb. They were doing their job, but apparently the stars were not on their side that day. I saw no heroism in their actions. They all followed their instructions.
2. The crew of these firefighters are typical ordinary Americans. Attempts to reveal the characters failed only because the characters themselves do not. The usual American set: cowboys, ranches, partying in a smelly bar, sucking beer and discussing another chick. Typical American mentality. Where does character come from?
3. The tragedy itself is given 20 minutes at the end. All we've been shown before is a normal day in the lives of firefighters. Everything is flat, ordinary and very boring. Who was interested in watching how two guys can not cope with the child, or how one of them was abandoned by another woman? No semantic load these scenes did not carry. Why do you even need them in the movie?
Conclusions about whether it was necessary to make this movie, do it yourself.

(for the beautiful scenery and my tears at the end)
The rating of this film is in the top. You start watching and you wait. When this top starts.
Americans can make a cool thing out of anything. That's how the team of firefighters in this movie is like a team of superheroes. You expect one of them to be Spider-Man.
Then there's a set of American clichés, which, for example, makes the gathering of firefighters look like a military gathering in an alien attack. It's a little tricky. And that's a little softer to say.
Partly touched on the topic of the confrontation between man and fire, it would be cool if it developed in the course of the plot, but it is not. It remains to be thought.
It's beautiful. Enjoying a great picture. And you don't pay attention to the blurred plot. Team scout games with hoodies and training incidents. And then there's the cutoff. Like life. When tears hurt, and nothing can be done. Elements put everything in place.
The film tells the story of a group of firefighters who fight with forest elements, are committed to their work and seek to obtain a license for independent activity. The team is actively recruited, and one of the newcomers is Brendan McDonald (Miles Teller), a former drug addict, but with all his might trying to change for the sake of his newborn daughter. And because of his inappropriate physical fitness interferes with others.
It’s hard to talk about a movie without spoiling it, as the epicenter is at the end. The first half of the film is rather long, boring, and promising. We are told about Brendan, about the specifics of work and various techniques of extinguishing, training firefighters. It also shows the birth of true friendship. Everything is easy, simple, but informative, it is worth considering. What happens in the second part gets to goosebumps, tears to pieces, and seems incredible. The film leaves behind a sense that it should have been different, and when the words “based on real events” appear, events become much more emotionally charged. The film does not regret drowning the viewer in this very real reality.
The acting is very shrill. Josh Brolin, Michael Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jeff Bridges, just bravo. All emotions are very sincere, pure, even in those moments when you do not expect anything special from the actor.
Definitely a movie to watch. He makes you take off your rose-colored glasses and look at the world as it is – unjust, cruel, merciless.

Although I love this genre, somehow this work at the time of release passed me by. Moreover, I have not heard of the tragic events of 2013 in Arizona before.
I want to note as one of the main good qualities of the film - it looks easy, not boring. Provided that nothing special happens in the movie until the end, it speaks of the talent of the director and screenwriter.
The second fat plus would like to put the picture for the absence of clichés, without which, it would seem, no modern cinema is shot. This is all to the fact that I was surprised that in the team 'Granite Mountain' some miracle was not a single African-American, Asian-American, gay and so on. Respect for clear 'biographical'. No racism - just if in reality the team consisted of 20 white men - then it was shown.
The third thing I want to mention is a good disclosure of everyday drama. Like a simple truth, as old as the world. But women are amazing creatures - they want to be around strong, courageous men, and then get offended when these men live their service.
And of course, the denouement with the final credits, which can hardly leave indifferent even a very callous person. The movement with real photos of the band members was very strong.

Films on real events always hit reality harder than scripted stories. The aftertaste of them remains stronger.
Also in 'Case of the Brave'. The story is not about abstract characters, but real people. People who put their work/vocation/other lives ahead of their own. The film impresses with its Reality, which you will not always find in clawed Hollywood films. A story about friendship, brotherhood, families forced to face the loss of loved ones. A story about how you can make a person from a desperate drug addict, a family man from an avid hard worker, a friend from a lousy colleague.
The film is worth watching not only because Brolin, Kitsch, Bridges, Teller, Connolly, but for the story first. For a reality and sincerity you can't read in the headlines. Each scene here fills the overall composition and is not superfluous, allowing you to know the main characters and their fates a little deeper than just outside observers.
This kind of movie doesn’t always hit the audience, but it happened to me, to the heart. For a long time I did not dare to take up the viewing, but I did not regret a minute of time spent and advise everyone to appreciate this picture. I'm sure she won't leave you indifferent.
To be honest, I am not a fan of biographical films (or, as it is now fashionable to say, biopics), because they are not connected with real events, and the share of artistic vision is too high. As a result, in 99% of cases it turns out either as with the “Movement Up” (I think after the review of BadComedian', the comments here are superfluous), or as with films like “The Greatest Showman”, where clearly not the most pleasant, honest and good person (to put it mildly) is portrayed as a victim of circumstances, breaking through from “dirty to princes”, and even only for the sake of love and justice, and in general he is almost a saint. Moreover, in most cases, the matter is not limited to simple slander or whitewashing, because, thanks to the active introduction of sedit, what happens begins to contradict itself (not to mention reality), turning into a meaningless farce. The same goes for the events themselves, especially the ones shown in the 2017 film Only the Brave, because it’s not really that clean.
Granite Mountain Hotshots
To begin with, the characters and their development are shown really well. I will not say about the correspondence of reality, since there is practically no information about the personalities of these characters even in English, but in this film the object of the story is skillfully used to raise really important for people such professions, and in principle those who are tormented by the contradictions of personal priorities of family and career. In addition to this theme, which runs through the film, it deals with issues of drug addiction, true friendship, prejudice, and family values in various aspects. The characters themselves are shown to be really alive, their characters do not stop, but develop over time, and therefore it is interesting to watch them, despite the fact that most of the timekeeping is devoted not so much to their work, but to ordinary life itself and how the same work affects it. What is most important is that all this is put to the place and does not contradict each other, and is perfectly connected with their profession, which is not a weak emphasis. Since all this is almost the most important in such films, most of the “Case of the Brave” looks decent and in one breath, but not everything is so clear. . .
Controversial atmosphere
Despite the fact that visually and in terms of acting "Only the Brave" at an extremely high level (and this despite the fact that the composition is far from experienced and not star), there are a couple of claims, both small and significant. Let’s start small: this is more of a nitpicking, but personally I am prevented from fully immersed in the moments that are happening, like the lack of Maloma protective equipment from professional firefighters. For example, they repeatedly stand in the middle of a fire, smoke pours out of all the cracks, and they even have no masks, not to mention any respirators or breathing apparatus. The atmosphere begins to crumble, especially in combination with the fact that today on every corner at the mention of fires recalled that most of the victims simply suffocated because of the influence of the smoke, and not burned or trampled or jumped out of the window. And again, it would be nothing, but at the very beginning of the film, the emphasis was on collecting a rather impressive backpack with equipment! For some, this may not seem like a minus at all, but for me, such moments hit the atmosphere very hard, the situation immediately ceases to be perceived as posing a danger to the heroes.
But back to the really serious stuff. A significant disadvantage I consider wildly crumpled and ragged ending, which greatly spoils the impression of the film. First, some storylines are simply interrupted without any conclusion, which is somewhat out of step with what it was all about. Secondly, even in comparison with the previous fires shown, this (the last) turned out to be somewhat confused and ragged, as a result of which you do not even understand at first that this is the final, but in general what is happening. Thirdly, after a few views of the ending, you still realize that they show some nonsense. Although, perhaps, some truth in what we saw is possible, because the story itself was rather murky. The fact is that in fact, in case of a complication of the situation, a fairly safe zone was provided for the squad in the form of a ranch, which was glimpsed in the film (only in the film, the cap allegedly noticed it completely by accident and only when they were already in an unpleasant position to put it mildly). The ranchers themselves remained there despite warnings of an impending threat, and even that their properties could be used as shelter when firefighters retreat. That is, the escape route was prepared in advance, including shelter.
Result
If it wasn’t for the ending, and the lack of atmosphere and the feeling of a real threat to the lives of the main characters (and the combination of these two factors resulted in a very serious minus), then I would call “The Case of the Brave” one of the best biopics of recent times, but alas. However, I recommend to watch, the truth will go this kind of movie is far from everyone.

According to the nick in Kinopoisk (this is the ID in VK), you can understand that I really love the universe of Throne. Tron: Legacy introduced me to this universe in 2010, in a movie theater. At first, there was an attitude closer to neutral, beautiful fiction with good visuals, but from the second viewing, already at home, I began to understand that the film is much deeper, in philosophy and meaning, and the picture, wonderful music from Daft Punk and design & #39;networks & #39; were a very good addition to the perception of the film. Even with the holes of the plot, albeit many inaccuracies, inefficiencies, but still, the film stuck in my soul probably for life. In the eighth year, reviewing his impressions do not spoil, but only supplement.
Speaking of Oblivion, the director’s second film, the formula was the same: its own philosophy, a strong fantastic story that is intriguing, and a very melancholy but life-affirming atmosphere. All this was complemented by a visual with music. The music was written by the very popular band M83 at that time, which also combines this film with 'Tron'. In my subjective opinion, the result was not as stunning as Throne. History held me less and interested me less, although I repeat, the formula was the same. But the film is definitely good, and interesting, beautiful, the events of which also had to digest and think.
Now we have finally come to Kosinski’s third film, 'The Brave Case'. Here, to the credit of the director, it is worth saying that this is not the trodden path of fiction, but in general a new one, in no way related to past films. No atmosphere, nothing at all. If I didn’t know it was a film directed by Kosinski, I wouldn’t have thought about it. Only a very talented person is able to do this, radically change his style and methods of work. But coming to the core of this review, my personal problem is that I was expecting something different. The first, very big problem is the lack of integrity. Here we were shown the family of the main character, the hero goes to extinguish the fire, extinguishes with his team, they need to get certificates, the appearance of the second main character, his problems in the family, he needs to re-educate and bububububububububububu. I didn’t immediately understand who was who I was, and unlike firefighting or training scenes, many scenes of personal relationships are calm, leisurely, even somewhere protracted. That's how the movie goes, bits and pieces. The second, stemming from the first, that no matter how much the director tries to reveal these scenes of the relationships of the characters, he hardly succeeds. There are a lot of them, and that’s the problem, and most likely the problem is that Kosinski tried to expose everyone, because they were all important for the film. And wives ' Hotheads' and themselves ' Hotheads' and Jeff Bridges' character (by the way, I never knew who he was). This is a huge number of characters for two hours, and the result was the abruptness, which I wrote about above. What follows from these two drawbacks is that I was not able to get into the dialogue and events in the film, or, roughly speaking, I was bored. Maybe when I try to watch it normally again, in another voiceover (I had one voice), my opinion will change dramatically. Maybe I did not grow up to him, as these clichés about ' Be a man, overcoming the pain, difficulties and teasing in the team' very personally striking and unpleasant, although this is not the biggest problem of the film. But at the moment, for me, the film doesn't have the integrity and value that Kosinski's previous films have.
The tagline of Joseph Kosinki’s new film is: '. What matters is not what stands in front of you, but who stands next to you.39 Someone may think that it sounds not new and not catchy at all. But watch the movie. I assure you, in the end, during the credits, these words will sound different.
39 The Case of the Brave is the story of the courage of 19 firefighters from Prescott, Arizona, who faced and contained one of the deadliest wildfires in history. Leaving their homes safe, these people rush to the den to the fiery beast 39, in order to tame him before he destroys everything in his path.
Kosinski’s biographical drama was truly emotionally honest. There is no sense of falsehood, of pompous heroism, which is often poked in our face. Throughout the film, you penetrate the society of these 19 brave men. Outside, ordinary guys who tease each other, talk about sexy girls, play imaginary guitar and show each other's asses, and inside - brave men. You feel their closeness, friendly kinship. Having chosen such a dangerous path, gathered in one team, for them there is no longer the expression ' by itself '. Now they're family and nothing else. Very touching, strong story shot for us.
Every day on our planet, something bold, amazing to the core, something incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing. There are people who change lives, influence beliefs, create new ways of thinking, and sacrifice themselves for the prosperity of those who will come after them. And one of the tasks of cinema should be to try to show us all this bright spectrum of events. Unfortunately, not all of us have the opportunity to fly around the world, to meet these people, to observe their achievements, but cinema can and should. When a film appears that sincerely wants to convey a piece of history to the viewer, it should not be missed. When you look at it, you should recommend it to someone else. It's like having a good book that you leave on a park bench so that the next random passerby can read it and just as admire it or form their opposite opinion.
So I advise you to watch 'The Case of the Brave' - a genuine movie that did not take its place among the relamed films of 2017, but still found its audience. I hope someone has read this line.
Considering the current rampant tolerance and dominance of “superhumans” & #39; in cinema, it was even surprising to watch a film about normal people, whose professional task is what in modern Hollywood you need some Iron Man. Of course, this became possible because, unfortunately, the film has a real tragic basis - otherwise it would be the same racial/ethnic composition of the fire squad ' Granite Mountain' would be more, hmm, 'trend'.
In general, this picture is a kind of breath of fresh air (no matter how it sounds about the film about forest fires) in the modern world with far-fetched problems.
The main thing that catches the eye in contrast with modern creations, caressed by critics and awards - for drama and strong emotions there is no need ' to press on pity' that is, to make the main characters in varying degrees ' inferior' in comparison with the surrounding society, in simple terms - the characters are not ' sympathize' but give the opportunity, do not need and pathos, the events in the film are commonplaces, stereotypically, but this bribes - the realism of everyday firefights, filled with the usual degree of the professions, which do not exceed the limits of modern life, 39;
In general, what can we say, Americans can shoot the right patriotic film (which now, however, does not have, alas, and financial success) - without hurrah-patriotism, but without ' contrary to the authorities ... ' that so love the domestic ' creators', events occur in Arizona, the film shows a typical ' depth' with the prevailing white population (for the whole film black characters appeared in the frame once - the guards in the club), firefight men, most - families, people are interrupted by life, but many others do not want to save their lives, but they do not want to get married, but they do not want to get married. . .
In general, all the components of the picture are made at a good level - the actors coped (somewhere, maybe, did not reach the emotions, somewhere the script moments are not accentuated properly, but these are trifles) - Josh Brolin is now confidently fighting for the title & #39; the coolest man for fifty' and this role strengthens his position (in his head immediately there is an association with the composition of the group ' Lube' ' Combat'), and the video is good, and the sound is generally excellent.

PS. I want to note that people like these firefighters, the land is the basis of the foundations of any state (as a community of people, of course), if it wants to exist at all, they do not care about ' global' questions of humanity, they do not reflect ' about the hopelessness of being' etc., yes, they are naive in something, they hardly understand politics with the economy, but at critical moments they do not hysteria, but act, do not retreat, but stand to the end, save not themselves, but others. . .
