Nuragi, Sardinia and the Bronze Age Disaster Nuragi are megalithic towers erected in the second millennium BC, in the Bronze Age, by a mysterious people who lived on the island of Sardinia. In the XIII century BC, the inhabitants of Sardinia, whom the Egyptians called Chardana, among other "peoples of the sea" raided Egypt and other states of the Middle East.
These events, which led to the death of the Hittite kingdom, Mycenaean Greece, the undermining of the power of Ancient Egypt, scientists called the catastrophe of the Bronze Age. Its reasons are not completely clear, and not much is known about the inhabitants of Sardinia of that era, so the author of the film Mario Aragoni has room for directorial fantasy, especially since 'Nuraghi'. Arena is actually the first feature film about the peoples of the sea.
The film tells the story of a warrior and his mentor who go to a duel against the killer of a warrior's daughter. In the narrative woven fantasy-mythological moments (spirits, giants). The influence of Kurosawa (Dreams), Coppola (Dracula), Pasolini (Medea), Tarsem Singh (War of the Gods: Immortals) is felt. Plus or minus in relation to the Bronze Age - to decide the viewer. The film is short, but shot expressively, in the best traditions of Italian cinema.
Pay attention to the clothes and weapons of the characters - the fruit of the works of the reenactor Andrea Loddo, an expert in Sardinian culture.
A film is more of a bid for something more serious than a finished work. The director began work on the second series called Nuraghi II. Chardana on the campaigns of the "peoples of the sea" in Egypt.
