Unidentified Lethal Object. I love movies made in a pseudo-documentary manner. So I decided to look at this picture because I was interested in the description. In general, to shoot something new in this genre, it is quite difficult, especially with a modest budget. Therefore, I did not expect anything special from the tape, but still hoped that it would be possible to get at least a little scared.
Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. Obviously, the picture has a very modest budget, which is evident from the very first shots. Therefore, all hopes were on the plot, the description of which prompted me to watch. A group of young people make a report about the zoo and the animals that live in it. Suddenly, all the animals begin to hide in pens, and a holy meteorite appears in the sky. In order not to miss the chance to become famous, the guys rush to the place of the fall of the celestial body. They find this place only closer to the evening, and therefore stay overnight right in the forest, into which the alleged meteor fell.
And then the standard game of ten black cubs begins. At the same time, absolutely nothing new is shown to the viewer. Neither in terms of the plot, nor in terms of scary moments that should have frightened the viewer. Personally, as a genre lover, I have the impression that I watch assortments from different similar films. Yes, the moments themselves look good, especially corpses and pieces of bodies of animals, but this has happened many times and has not been scary for a long time.
I didn’t like the camera work either. Here, too, all the same joints as most representatives of the genre. Heroes do not let go of the camera for a moment and film absolutely everything that happens to them. Moreover, if the camera falls to the ground, then necessarily in such a way that it would be visible to the heroes. And you can clearly see that whoever is holding the camera in their hands is doing it very smoothly and calmly. It looks like this: the heroes run away from the danger that is about to catch up with them, and they are not concerned about their own safety, but about what would remove everything as clearly as possible.
Moreover, in most of these films, the characters at least explain the reason for their shooting. And in this tape, the operator simply removes everything that happens to him, which is not motivated by anything. You can add the stupid actions of the heroes. Instead of sticking together, they always run one at a time. Instead of leaving by car, they abandon it and walk. Instead of answering an incoming phone call and asking for help, they smash it against a rock. “Instead of that, it’s the whole movie.”
At the same time, I really liked the acting game, I did not like the characters. More exactly what they did. However, the very danger from which the boys died, it looked ridiculous. In the beginning, when the viewer was shown only fragments of corpses and a sea of blood, it was even creepy. But when we understand what the guys are dealing with, we want not to be afraid, but to laugh. However, this is the fault of a modest budget.
In general, we are not the worst, but absolutely not distinguished representative of the mocumentary genre. You can watch it out of boredom or for a collection. But not more than once.
