I know too little about the cinema of Chile to say anything concrete about the creators.
Diana's son Martin is autistic. And aggressive and completely uncontrollable. This is not the main character’s only problem. She's pregnant, she's afraid the new baby will be like Martin. The heroine thinks that her husband is cheating on her, but she can not check. There's a Filipino grandmother who's obviously plotting against Diana. Not easy? Not easy.
The best thing about the film is ignorance. Like Diana, we don’t know what is true and what is fiction. What happens in a dream, what happens in reality. Suspense in the film is created at the highest level. Every minute the tension increases. Pump and pump. And the ending hits not in the eyebrow, but in the eye. Excellent. At the same time, the behavior of people is very plausible; the dialogues are also realistic.
Actors. Daniela Ramirez is not good, but not bad, tolerable level. Ida played at the level, without serious mistakes.
Thus, “Mother” is an excellent arthouse horror. Very unexpected.
