He who loves madly, will understand. The Kargil War of 1999 put an end to the relationship between military fighter pilot Varun Chakrapani and Dr. Lila Abraham. Captured on the Pakistani side, Varun, during the torture, thinks only one thing about whether he will be able to see his beloved again. He feels guilty that he made a huge mistake – he could not keep love in his hands. Now there is hope in his heart - to finally get out of this hell, to find Lila and ask her forgiveness. Varun will do anything, even if it will cost him his life, even if she no longer needs him. Because no matter what, he will love her until his last breath.
In the films of Mani Ratnam, there is always a place for sincere and deep feelings. But his characters are often complex. You either understand them or accept them as they are. It is impossible to judge the character of a person unequivocally, since everyone has both a good and a bad side. This gives you the opportunity to be a little in the role of a psychologist and speculate on the topic of “what is right and what is not” in the life of a particular character. In this film, everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance. It is the same feeling as loving and hating at the same time. I’m not talking about evaluating a film as a work of art, but about the relationships it talks about. Whatever emotions you experience during the viewing, everyone will have a desire to know how it will end.
"In the air." What's this movie about? Not about war. As it turns out, she is just the background for a love story. The war pushes the main character to decisive action, but the essence here lies in another. Imagine a relationship between a man and a woman that can be characterized by the phrase “love does not cure, love cripples.” It’s an excruciating, never-ending process when two people are unable to let go of each other. And they realize that nothing good should be expected from this union. Varun has a terrible temper. He is selfish in everything he can do. His feeble attempts to justify himself, such as “I am afraid to become a cruel and rude person like my father,” fly only out of the tongue, but in reality this does not reflect. This type can only attract women who want to be humiliated and insulted. Otherwise, who would tolerate disrespect for themselves? A good example of this is Lila – “wipe your feet on me.” It's hard to understand why she loved him so much. It seems that the girl is educated, even about her pride a couple of times stuttered, but... My God! What did she see in him? What did you expect? And what did Varun want, using her naivete? These and other thoughts crossed my mind while I watched this ugliness (in the good sense of the word).
I have to admit, I love movies with a strong psychological overtones. There is nothing better than to study the diversity of human nature in all its manifestations in practice (thank God, in some cases, in a strange way). The most important thing is that the actors could reliably play, the screenwriter is interesting to write, and the director competently direct everyone in the right direction. And actually, it was. Mani Ratnam, director and screenwriter in one person, not only that he created such an entertaining story, but also successfully chose actors for the main roles. Aditi Rao Hidari in the image of a girl in love and forgiving, looked quite convincing. A delicate flower in the hands of a madman. To give credit to The picture, he really was kind of crazy. First, the eye cut his appearance. I'm not used to seeing Kartik without a mustache and a beard. For me now it was a completely different person. In addition, his character was so unpleasant and repulsive that there was no limit to my surprise. This role changed my perception of him as an actor. He's never been more intimidating. You could feel this intense energy even through the screen. I can't imagine what his partner was like at the time. One thing is clear, as God's day - Kartik is good in such a role.
In the midst of all this emotional pressure sounds, as always, beautiful music. His performance is amazing. Every year he has several films to which he writes not only music, but also soundtracks. In each of them, he puts his soul along with the rest of the actors, just otherwise it would not be such a perfect sound. For such a great work he deserves great respect.
Finally, I want to say that I am completely satisfied with what I have seen. I recommend everyone to watch the film at least once, as the subject is very serious. Love is a complex thing that requires special attention. It is important not to repeat the mistakes that Varun and Lila made. The ending of the film leaves two questions open. Can a person really change? Is it worth giving someone a hundredth "second" chance?
