It's a tough show. One of the few British TV shows worth watching. I just started watching, I don’t know what’s going to happen next, so I gave a neutral assessment. But so far, the show has caught on. I haven't seen anything serious in a long time. By the way, I will explain in the course of the matter - before the phrase "subtle English humor" was often added "so subtle that it is not visible." These are those who seriously believe that the British have some special, elite humor. You fell for the first part of the sentence without hearing the second. So, the first series is templates, stamps. After that, I don't want to look any further. I think I've seen it a hundred times. It's standard Western. Predictable and understandable. An ossified correct doctor comes to a provincial town (village), where sweet simple but eccentric people live, with whom he initially does not find a common language, but slowly thaws and becomes the same as everyone else, realizing what deep wisdom these simple-looking people have, and how much he was wrong. So far (I’ve only watched five episodes) this is not the case. The Doctor is a noble, honest, decent and educated man. Despite the funny look with protruding ears, he is a rather tragic character. All the local obscurantist society, up to [...], which considers itself well to that wise and sees everything and everyone through... Until he gives up. Somewhere he loses (the dog pushed him, the assistant pushed him, [...] pushed ...), but continues to hold. He understands that he lost in some cases, but does not convince himself that it is right, as in template series. He perceives it as a loss, staying with his beliefs. There is tough pressure, and the doctor himself does not fight, but only holds positions. The only person who has described exactly what is going on in this village or town? It doesn’t look like a village, it’s crazy. It's even sadder. Everyone loves the cute (??) assistant doctor, who is actually extremely incompetent, careless, irresponsible, extremely unbred, insolent and... I don’t even know how to describe. With a lot of visitors to tell on the phone, what color your pants are - this is either extreme rudeness, or already exhibitionism. A situation arises when, due to her criminal frivolity (almost all residents of the village suffer from this), a child may die. But she does not draw any conclusions and does not change her behavior at all. The doctor kicks her out, but she managed to recover at work, while winning additional rights! I mean, the doctor got squeezed and he lost. The series is very tense. It is very similar to what I see in real life. I am in the position of this doctor myself. I just don't stick so hard, I spit on everything and go. But I don't have tasks like him. I leave without consequences for someone, if he leaves the battlefield, there will be consequences even for the same people who hiss at him, attack him and try to break him, cut off the branch on which they sit. This is where his nobility comes in. He's taller and smarter than them, he sees the whole picture and the consequences, and he's responsible for it all, unlike them. Lightheadedness is a crime. Twenty people came to the doctor to talk and drink tea, and the only one really sick. If the doctor was like them, the patient would not have reached the queue. And they either do not understand that other people are harmed by their behavior - then complete idiots, or they do not care deeply about it - then complete villains. We need to have fun, have fun, have fun. And the fact that there is someone among us now who is really suffering and waiting for an appointment - it doesn't matter! The main thing is that the tea was with milk!
There's a wonderful book and a wonderful movie that's made very meticulously from the book. "Flying over the Cuckoo's Nest." The main character is full of health, brings benefits to the sick more than doctors, and mentally healthier than those who undertook to treat him. So it's being destroyed. But there he challenged, and here the main character just keeps the defense, conscientiously and honestly doing what he has to do. He is not actively fighting anyone, but everyone is trying to break him. They hiss like snakes, but they can not sting much yet.
The fact that the main character will be able to explain to everyone how evil and stupid they are, and everyone will improve – this is unlikely to happen. It's gonna be a fairy tale. I'll be sorry if it's destroyed, like in Flight Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It would be a tragedy. If the main character is still broken, he will become the same as all sushi-pussy cute, with whom everyone smiles at the meeting and who waves his hand - this will be another thrash, stamped crafts, of which there are already very, very many. I wonder what the writers are up to for a few seasons. There are compromises, such as with the same crazy [...] – it is a good solution. There is a loss under the guise of compromise - as with contaminated "mineral" water - it is a step towards "sucie-pussy, you are all ours, you are just like us." See, it doesn't hurt, and you resisted. I would not like to see such a development.
PS edited in connection with spoilers. There is still an episode with an assistant, but it already comes soon, and does not reveal the main plot of the series.
