Low budget #36: Lizard distribution You see the total destruction on the cover of the Lizard disc - be prepared for one house destroyed if it's a disaster movie and 2-3 deaths if it's a horror movie - so goes the ancient legend. Indeed, anyone who remembers the covers of these films will understand. Here we see the metropolis killed in the trash, it also rains, birds fly, and in general skeletons in the foreground. And the name of such a loud "Plague: Chronicle of the epidemic". In general, all these chronicles in Lizard occur often: "The Doomsday Chronicle", "The Chronicle of the Eclipse" and so on. In fact, the film "Terror Inside" was much more modest. Surprised? Me too.
So, we have the horror Joe J. Landers "The Plague: Chronicle of the Epidemic". In Russia, the film confidently appeared on the shelves in March 2010, I even came across a review in one of the magazines. It was 2 out of 5, I remember that. By March 2010, Sigma Movie was no longer in existence, so all of Lizard’s cheapest films were branded New Way. The “New Way”, by the way, did not last long – only about a year.
Let us turn to the plot, for this time we are promised serious destruction and total devastation. The disc says that a terrible epidemic has swept the Earth. Well, there is nothing to expose - all the action takes place in a small provincial town, where the disease raged. The virus became more dangerous and destroyed entire cities. Here again I want to note the fact that beyond one town the virus could not escape. Well, if you believe the description, then people move from city to city, see this epidemic everywhere and they will not be saved. Okay, thanks, Lizard, description, as usual, at 5 points, but below I will tell the true story of the film.
We are introduced to the main character Allen, played by Corey Feldman. He works in a big city, but he works half-heartedly - one day he appears at work, the other 6 spends on vacation. In his spare time, he travels to the small town I mentioned above. And for the first half an hour, we will watch their most difficult relationship, as one wants to play a wedding, and the other even understand what the fuck he wants. Along the way, we are introduced to another character - Joe, who is excavating silt nearby. And then one day he gets something completely incomprehensible out of the ground and turns into a breeding ground of infection, which is transmitted to everyone he touches. The consequences are terrible – people stop feeling pain. On the contrary, the pain becomes pleasant. They cut themselves left and right - well, of course, many drive themselves to suicide, wanting to experience all the pleasure of pain.
It's a great story, I want to say, but I can tell you right away, it's a pretty good story. First, the main role is played by Mr. Feldman, who does not look good here. I don't like him at all, but I don't think anyone would argue with me if I said he's not playing well here. Always walks in dark glasses - it seems that a person was ripped off the heaviest bodun. Otherwise, his behavior on the set cannot be explained to me. In The Master of Dolls vs. Demon Toys, he also played badly, but at least lively. Here is just a clone Michael Madsen from the film "Traitors", to her God.
Of course, the overall cheapness of the film is also felt. It’s not as bad as York movies, but category B still oozes off the screen while watching. Well, we didn't expect another Lizard company. But consider the implementation further - the first 30 minutes of the film really drags barely, the family problems of the main characters are not that uninteresting - they just practically do not play any role in the end. So we watched 30 minutes before the story just like that.
As a result, we have in principle an average such horror film about an epidemic in a small town. Minimum actors, minimum scenery, minimum play. The idea is quite good, however, the implementation jumps from good places to disgusting. Often still poor implementation, but you can remember 1-2 bright moments. I can’t say that the movie is boring, but in some places it is boring. It can be seen if you just like such low-budget, in other cases would not recommend. A typical movie from the category “watched and forgotten”. Sorry. This idea could last a long time.
Thank you for your attention
