At first, a film about five Islamists who started a jihad seems like a selective black comedy: rare idiots who can not even go to the toilet without adventure; cynical and ridiculous dialogue; a sea of hilarious details like a prayer bear or rabbit chickens. The plots of the characters represent something beyond good, evil and common sense - a living example of what human imagination is capable of in the absence of the scale of thinking.
Here's my plan. Tie the bomb to the crow and let it into the skyscraper.
Two idiots go to Pakistan to learn a little bit about the sacred business, the rest continue to generate delusions in London. It’s so funny that “Don’t mess with Zohan” and didn’t lie around – especially if you prefer classical English humor with an admixture of grotesque and buffoonery. Disputes about the choice of a place for suicide can bring the viewer to cramps in his stomach (and some ayatollah, meanwhile, in anger, writes another fatwa).
I don't want to die among tampons and cotton balls!
All the characters are carefully written out. Omar is a smart guy with a beautiful family, reading his son fairy tales about Simba’s jihad against Scar for the night. Interestingly, he is not even a radical Islamist – he goes to the mosque at best once a year and ridicules his desperately religious (and meek as a sheep) brother. Waj is a dumbass for whom jihad is like rafting on rubber rafts in an attraction. Barry is an ardent fanatic who is a native British. Faizal is only capable of generating delusions, and Hasan loves rap and a pretty neighbor. These guys have not even heard anything about conspiracy, and when they are caught off guard, they are the first thing that comes to mind.
Yeah, we're all gay. But mostly these two.
However, an amazing metamorphosis happens with the picture. It would seem that black comedy is just the genre in which death, by definition, does not cause any emotions, except for laughter: so they are set up, and those who are scoffed, just stay away from the genre. But in "Four Lions" death, although they are extremely absurd and ridiculous, is surrounded by a terrible cold. It’s probably because we clearly understand that on any day near us and our loved ones, this kind of Waj or Omar can explode, and we will not be comforted by the fact that they were funny jerks. That’s where we come to the fact that Morris shot a rather deep tragicomic and acutely satirical story, and the best part is that he does not poke anyone under his nose with this depth. If you want to – refuse any interpretations and just laugh, the good is something. But if you want, under the wrapper of an entertaining movie, it is easy to find a simple and clear message: do not be radical fanatics of anything. The afterlife is only in vague promises, and the real alloys on rafts are here on earth. And is a carefully trimmed lawn in front of the house worse than paradise, when there is one near you, but so beloved and desirable Guria?
P.S. Five Islamists on the ground staged jihad.
If God is merciful, then hell is not for them.
To create a satirical tape about what all the terrorists are stupid idea is a bold, but at the same time stupid, yet the personalities depicted in the film are hardly capable of self-irony. But the courage to portray Muslim radicals and the amorphous English society surrounding them is unfortunately the film’s main virtue.
The story looks too stupid to believe. All these unsuccessful and far-fetched attempts to carry out a terrorist act to prove to Arab brethren that they are real mujahideen, first of all look pathetic, and only then ridiculous. And the meeting with real Islamists clearly shows how despised and no one needs the main characters.
So it turns out that the film is certainly provocative and relevant, but in fact few people need it. In order to cheer the viewer, he lacks really funny jokes and gags. And to think about the whole danger of terrorism is hindered by the playful tone of the picture, which does not allow to see in these fools a real threat.
You can still watch the film for a few good jokes, high-quality production and convincing acting, but you should not expect much from it.
The subject of Islam, especially its aggression, has been haunting for a long time. All this jihad is a blatant manifestation of ignorance, only a lack of intelligence gives rise to such ‘sacred’ violence. It's to simplify things. In general, the interpretation of the Quran is quite controversial, because jihad is primarily the development of man, both intellectually and spiritually. And big politics, the resulting thirst for power, a lot of money and the endless presence of fanatics casts a shadow on the whole of Islam, simply making the world hate Muslims, their rich culture and traditions. Total bullying. Sad.
The genre picture is presented as a black comedy, where humor is based on one solid absurdity. All jokes are not devoid of some ingenuity, which is worth one raven-jahid, but they have one basis, common clichés about bearded men. It is clear that the global “mushroom” can not scare me, it puts me in a stupor, it is really a serious problem, but the degree of stupidity is so high that you do not really want to think about it, especially laugh. For comedy, especially black, clearly lacked subtlety.
But the topic is still acute, so the denouement gives exactly the emotions that I expected. There is no joke here, and the understanding of what is happening comes late. The price is excessively high, people’s lives are at stake, and paradise is there, already after, theoretically, and the pain and thirst for life is now.
The film will be recommended for viewing, it is easy and easy, though for the time being, makes the viewer a clown, demonstrating his phobias. Becomes ashamed, but not only for himself, but for the whole world.
I wish everyone a pleasant viewing!!
Turned to Islam Englishman Barry and a group of radical Muslims living in the British Sheffield, intends to prove their commitment to jihad and arrange some high-profile terrorist attack. But their problem is that far from their homeland, the Muslims have become quite European and even under the leadership of the most brainy participant Omar, all the grandiose plans of idiots-terrorists are often not worth a fucked-up egg.
The first full-length picture (the rest of the series) directed by satirist Christopher Morris causes some frenzy with its content. In the spirit of some funny parody "Real Ghouls" and sketches by Charlie Hebdo (incidentally, he is not from there). Morris invites the audience, tearing his stomach, to laugh at how woe-shahids, despite their stupidity, are preparing to blow up a mosque, then a terrorist attack at a public event. Morris is a bit far from the subtle British humor, he thinks more often in thick forms. Aggressive ideological cretin Barry, then mindlessly swallowing sim cards and car keys, then inventing idiotic initiations for recruits, rustic rapper Hassan, issuing an ammunition depot for the first counter, quiet fool Face, mining a raven, another jerk Vaj, taking selfies right in a Pakistani training camp. However, good and the leader of the gang, inadvertently destroying the secret shelter of Osama bin Laden.
There is no doubt that all the “cadres” will show themselves. But more importantly, the author also raises the more acute topic of the fact that in fact this gang of imbeciles is the product of the surrounding society, equally naive and amorphous, absolutely not ready for such attacks, not seeing evil even in front of his own nose. Courage or even recklessness Morris do not occupy - the film is much angrier and funnier than the same "Ghouls" by Jemaine Clement. Only the moral side is disturbing – how ethical it is to laugh at such a thing, when the topic has not been a joke for anyone for a long time and such a thing happens literally nearby. And the only very dubious merit of "Four lions" can be called adopted by the brothers Tsarnaev the idea of a terrorist attack on the marathon, unlike the film, implemented quite successfully. So we laughed.
The 4 Lions are doomed to fail. People will not want to laugh at what most of us are terribly afraid of, at what it is not customary to laugh at, indecent, scary, blasphemous, godless. And here, rye, you feel goosebumps running through your body because you laugh at people blowing themselves up in public. To make a comedy about martyrs is a brilliant idea, the idea is bold and monstrously complex. The authors of the film did not fully cope with the task, did not press, did not escalate to the limit, but we will forgive them for this, because the undertaking is undoubtedly remarkable. How else can we fight these people? How can we not remain indifferent? How do you live with what's going on? Laugh? Why not?
You can't laugh at things like that. How will people whose loved ones died during terrorist attacks who are related to these terrible events react to the film? We need to figure out who they're laughing at. I am clearly not laughing at the victims or even at the situations, but at the bearers of this evil, and they should even be laughed at, I think. Maybe this is an effective way not to go crazy when you go on the subway or meet loved ones at the airport.
A film with deep meaning. The image of these terrorists can be transferred to any soil. Do the main characters know much about Islam? Very little. Throughout the film, we are told this periodically. They are not interested in Islam, they do not live by the laws of Islam. But they dream of jihad. They live a normal Western life. I work, study, have families, friends, phones. They're on the Internet watching TV. They're ordinary people. Do you think Breivig was different from them in everyday life? Or the man who shot people in the temple in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk? I don't think so much. This portrait of a modern terrorist is very clearly shown in the film. It wouldn't be so funny if it wasn't so sad. They have everything but an adequate purpose in life, except an adequate meaning in life. They are spiritually empty.
At the same time, the movie is funny. It was made in the spirit of English black comedies. Even when people die on the screen, there is a smile on the face. At the same time, there is almost no blackness, vulgarity and stupidity in the film. No gut and no dismemberment. There are a lot of them, as they do in most modern films. There's almost no blood on the tap. But if you look at the picture, it doesn't make it worse. It makes it better, more dramatic.
In general, a very decent film with a rare combination of acute social film and black comedy.

Without a doubt, the film turned out to be successful, despite the abundance of various silly moments and British ridicule at the very essence of the teachings of jihad.
The purpose of this film was to show the same "Warrior of Allah" & #39; whose appearance is so veiled and appears to us only as a monkey trying to blow everything around. But it wasn't much better. All five heroes who seek to destroy infidels get into rather curious situations, many of them have completely unhealthy thinking, one forces the other to fulfill their dirty fantasies, the other teaches a fool how to live.
In general, the intoxication of the people by holy war is brilliantly shown, especially in the sense that these people did not even realize why they were going to die. This is confirmed by the main character, when in the end he is desperate, realizing that he lost his best friends in vain, blows himself up in the pharmacy. He was already aware of the fact how useless their actions were, but having failed to convince his lunatic comrade of this and having lost him, GG, left alone with his thoughts, simply does not find any other way out but to finish what he started.
Comedy at first, I think, is filled with a little black humor, followed by the classic British development, in which we begin to understand that it is already satire, satire and sarcastic mockery of the very idea of our inept Mujahideen 39. The ending is a bit depressing and even a bit sad.
I believe that this film was intended to highlight how useless religious war can be, and any war in general. It openly ridicules Islamic extremism, the stupidity of religious fanaticism and, of course, the inability of man to think freely and independently. Of all the five heroes, obviously, only the main character managed to eventually bring his thoughts in order, but this was done at the point of no return, so it did not save his life.
And yet, despite such an abundance of statements and a considerable semantic load, this film turned out really funny. Funny scene with the crow, the attempt to shoot down the plane, and many others.
Great Britain, these days. Four rather stupid but stubborn martyrs dream of committing jihad in the name of a bright goal. How it is done, why and why the hell they need it, our heroes do not particularly care. Omar (Ahmed) - the most educated of these four, assures that this way they will take revenge on the vile kafir and go to heaven as heroes. Of course, everything will not go as they imagined.
Pretty weird movie. On the one hand, "Four Lions" is the purest water stalks, sometimes served, as they say, in the forehead. Moments from the category of “let’s blow up the Internet” – nothing other than the desire to joke, you can not explain. Well, there's no one that stupid. At least that's what I want to believe. Barry's character is completely and completely comedic - a purebred Briton who grew a beard, joined the militant ranks of Islam and offers to blow up the mosque - laughter and only.
On the other hand, there is a social background in the film. The characters clearly show a complete misunderstanding of the reasons for their behavior. It just occurred to them that they were living in a foreign land and were forced to stage jihad here. For what or why, it doesn't matter. Jihad, I said, period! Very revealing scenes at the end of the film, when the characters it becomes clear that soon they have to die, and the fuse all at once somehow disappears. That is, the director wants to show how meaningless the actions of martyrs can be, which are sometimes imposed from the outside, but will it be easier if you are blown up by a real terrorist, or such a fool who has read extremist literature?
Well, in the second half of the film, when people really begin to die from the explosions arranged by this moronic quartet - it does not make you laugh. Judging by the reviews, many liked such a sharp contrast between the images of fools-shahids and their really terrible deeds. I have a cooler opinion on this. Yes, a movie, absolutely worth watching. But still, you should not so openly laugh at the sad. I was kind of embarrassed. Although the reception is interesting and somewhere even unique. I don't remember any of that.
To watch or not to watch, decide for yourself. This is a very individual case. Someone will look, laugh and forget, someone will be hooked, and someone will simply not understand why it was filmed. I told you, it's a strange movie.
