“If they don’t surrender, their city will become a cemetery.” Interesting movie. I am not a big fan of historical films. And if he was on one pirated copy along with the more pro-promo film "Robin Hood" (which is with Russell Crowe), then in comparison with him "Barbarossa" wins. Not too much, though.
And shown here in this epic time of the reign of the Roman Emperor Friedrich Hohenstaufen. This story is not about how Barbarossa was king of Germany and invaded Italy. This is about how Redbeard set the goal of conquering Milan, a city accustomed to living and bathing in its independence.
But this film is not just a series of endless politics and wars. We will be introduced to the love line. Alberto and the girl who was struck by lightning. But this line doesn't quite take root here. But you don't need it. It wasn't a melodrama after all. And it all began when this same Alberto as a child met Barbarossa, and then the emperor gave him a dagger. Alberto shot from a crossbow, you can say, saved the life of the ruler.
Well, everything goes in such a way that Barbarossa is thinking (to attack / not to attack). In addition, the soothsayers popular in those days called Barbarossa’s death by water. And in those days, all the other magicians and magicians were in great honor. And what prompted the Apennine commander to act is precisely what follows from the fact that my retelling was necessary. I saw a parallel with the movie Troy. There the catalyst for the attack was Helena of Troy, here - the refusal to obey. This refusal was expressed in a bold manner. Milan was like an obsessive subject of the state. Having trampled the coat of arms in front of the ambassadors, Milan thereby signs the verdict.
And what I really liked was that the fear of warriors, their wives, was perfectly conveyed. They will give up or fight. But no one knew how to resist the military machine. In short, the point is to resist the sovereign and not be exterminated. This is the basis of the whole film.
The battles themselves are not loaded here. They don't bother or bother. What’s even more surprising is that the film seems to end. Although he seems to be cut off only at the first impression of what he saw. Then it makes sense. It's all right.
Interestingly, the film is not famous. But that doesn't diminish his merits. For those who love historical films, the film will definitely enjoy it. I’m just a small lover, so I can’t appreciate it.
But such a film can be recommended without embarrassment. Better than Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.
