Welcome to America. The first time I watched the film was about the year of its premiere, I remember very much, although I am not fond of comedies in principle. There’s a lot of humor in them lately around the fly. Friendship! is a different kind of movie. He is not ashamed and friends to advise and interesting for the second time after 5 years to review.
So, "Friendship." What does Tom and White have to do with America? I also did not understand, the first time I watched just with a normal original translation of the title, and now, sincerely believing that the film is called Friendship, I have long struggled to find it. About "do America" is certainly too much, a more disastrous interpretation I have not yet met, it does not fit with the meaning and message that carries the film. Repels and hints at a stupid, passable, American comedy. And he's not like that at all!
The film is about two guys from the GDR - about Vait and Tom, who were not afraid to risk everything and jumped headlong across half the world for a dream. Across the Atlantic with $55 in his pocket, with no language and clear plans, except one across America to meet the Golden Gate in San Francisco and the ghostly hope of finding Father White. They must be crazy. And so naive, touching and good-natured that you will love and believe them from the first minutes of watching. In their journey, they, like all true friends, get stuck in stories, get drunk, have romances, quarrel, reconcile, and of course at every step make new acquaintances. They are amazingly inventive and cheerful, “they were not alike, but they complemented each other.” Sometimes in the course of viewing, you feel awkward for the guys, as for your own, for your family. Their kindness disposes, their honesty bribes, and their friendship is stronger than any troubles and problems.
A separate line about the acting of guys. The guys are great, create their atmosphere in the frame, cheer up with their genuine sincerity and emancipation, I want to think that in real life they are good friends or even friends.
A very sincere and life-affirming film about true friendship, charges with a good mood and remains for a long time in the memory of pleasant memories.
