A sea of optimism The case was near the reservoir, which will later become fatal. There was a big Sabantuy. From the unknown Scandinavian distances a yacht filled with alcohol floats out; on board a purposeful four, they keep their way towards a lonely coastal house, where their land comrades have boiled crayfish in advance and are impatiently exploring the horizon. Nothing should prevent the fusion of seafood with an aperitif, nothing can spoil the long-awaited meal. But in this very place, the heroes face difficulties of a purely engineering nature, they do not manage to moor to the pier. Attempts do not stop, terrible things happen: the mast falls off, the man in the suit cyclically faints, the lifeboat brazenly gives up spirit, treacherously withdrawing in the direction of the sea depths. Neptune seems to have turned its back on these unfortunates. All in vain, some on land, others on the sea, they will not meet. The party is in jeopardy.
"Morning to the Wharf" is an eccentric comedy, and it's perhaps hard to imagine a more accurate characterization. Buffonada dances in hand with a farce, meaningless fussy running to the dashing behind-the-scenes rattles covers all the gold-toothed gypsies of Emir Kusturica, and humor has an incredible causal incidents of the type “I went to smear a sandwich and destroyed the northern part of Algeria”. In other words, the movie under review, if not from the first, then at least from the fifth minute, attacks the defenseless viewer with a select grotesque level of Tom and Jerry in the degree of Well, wait, and is not going to stop at all. Analogies are not accidental, the plot really refers to a children's animation, because most of the film is an inspired brainstorming, the construction of monstrous ideas, each of which is doomed to failure - the yacht does not move. In between discussing insidious plans, the mother-in-law practices martial arts, the sullen fisherman claims to be dating Esther Williams, the yacht commander proudly flaunts in women's pantaloons. Characters are the very restlessness with over-the-top drive that instead of a hat on the move wear a pan, so do not be surprised when everyone sings at the end. However, despite the seeming chaotic nature of the necessities happening on the screen, the attraction looks quite manageable, and the author’s hand is visible everywhere: the characters sometimes skillfully break the fourth wall, in the presence of a reference to overseas cinema, and the final joke about social advertising is worthy of the highest ratings.
The key idea is simple and uncomplicated: some get bored without drinking, others abuse without snacking. Obviously, in such conditions a person naturally turns into an animal, for long ago the maxim about bread and circuses became obsolete, in place of bread there should be boiled crayfish, the spectacle is successfully replaced by a good tincture of something strong, but the first is unthinkable without the second. Yes, some manifestations of dialectical materialism did not suspect, probably, and Karl Marx himself, but who said that it is impossible to make a movie about it? And here, perhaps, it is time to ask what exactly makes fun of the local kaleidoscope of absurdities, but it is unlikely that the author seriously thought about such trifles. We are not dealing with satire catalyzing deep thoughts, but rather with a beautiful thing in itself, with a microcosm existing according to unknown laws and directly radiating pastoral grace and bucolic comfort. “Morning to the pier” about people who live widely in their coastal settlement and do not think about the fact that children are starving in Africa, and everything is waiting for heat death. One has only to listen to the whistling with which the main character sucks the flesh from the shell of a reddened crustacean, and doubts will disappear: these nice guys have any sea on their knees, and any trouble is like water from a goose. Not that “delicious food” was their highest value, but this ability to “seek happiness in small things” would envy more than one veteran of fashionable psychological training.
No, the movie lacks stars from the sky. And he hardly suspects the existence of any stars in any sky, he just creates the right mood. As an American who knew the price of a good party once wrote, “the air was filled with the vibrations of a truly joyful life.” Well, trust me, the vibrations are fine.
