1962: Peter Sellers benefit But in the UK, the topic of “sweet life” was not particularly worth it. At least in the cinema this is not reflected. On the contrary, we were shown the younger generation tense, sharp, angry. The more expensive this picture, because it does not fit into the fashion canvas of those years. Before us is not such a young hero - his age tends to middle years. And everything seems to be in place - career, wife, children. But a man wants more. He looks at other women and is constantly looking for more. At the same time, his wife raises two children and, in fact, is alone and abandoned.
This situation is transformed by bright colors when our hero decides to improve his career. While his candidacy is being considered for promotion, he gets into a funny adultery with a powerful woman. While her husband pays attention to his wife. And only in the final, the viewer will know what decision our hero will make, what he will choose. Will he agree to a deal that promises a dubious position and the title of “conformist”, or will he decide to rebel? But everything goes so far that any decision will be difficult.
There is a wonderful play by Peter Sellers. He is simultaneously charming and clumsy, boring and interesting. With all the linearity of the narrative, those semitones with which he endows his character create volume, contradiction. His realism gives a boost to the film. He is echoed by two actresses - a native of Westeros May Zetterling and British Virginia Maskell. Despite the small roles, their characters also succeeded, were interesting and worked out.
They were successful in the film and many scenes. Memorably, immeasurably funny and unusual to witness the hysteria of Mae Zetterling. During her solitude in the car, they are surrounded by a herd of cows. For all the equanimity and simplicity of these animals, the contrast creates an incredibly funny effect. Although, in truth, here any passage Sellers is full of meaning, telling us about the difficulties in the family life of men, allowing you to guess about the perversions and sublimation in the career.
