February! Embrace your horse and cry! Scream about the horse!
To be honest, after watching the film, I was surprised who the director was. From Steven Spielberg a little different was expected even on this topic. In general, of course, the idea is strange (albeit partially win-win) - to collect in one single film with a frankly weak and strained script a constellation of beautiful (talented and famous) actors and make them for two and a half hours to tell the story of one horse. I will not hide it, it was filmed so that even I had tears in my eyes a couple of times (the unfortunate animal, like no other, suffers from the arbitrariness of bad people) - but at the moment of, so to speak, tearing, you perfectly understand that all this movie attraction is essentially banal, cynically calculated by the screenwriters, a tear-crusher.
There are no halftones here - if the hero is a scoundrel, then he is just a scoundrel to the bone. Here, for example, an alcoholic father (Peter Mullan), for some reason bought on the market (with the last money of the family) the main character of the film, the expensive horse Joey. Although everyone around perfectly understands that the horse is a race and exhibition, it is not suitable for working in the field - the father of the family will stubbornly force him to plow. And when it turns out that in this field from the horse is of little use - he will give the horse to the front (for money, of course). And all this with such a brutal expression on the face, here and makeup to help, and the actual acting.
But the main character from people Albert (Jeremy Irwin), he is the son of the aforementioned idiot-dad, who went to war as a volunteer in the hope of finding and saving his horse - he is just perfect in everything, he has no negative traits at all. “Well, that’s what happened,” as if the director opens his hands. It would be nice to take on this role someone more talented, or that against the background of his famous partners in the film, young Irvin somehow completely lost with an eternal spiritually stupid expression.
I'm confused by the dialogue. Whether the interpreter blundered, or initially so it was – but all the participants of the action speak in short chopped phrases, reminiscent of either the heroes of a computer game, or the characters of German opera, voiced what they are now going to do and why. I'm sorry, but people rarely say that if they have an IQ even slightly above their lowest. Maybe all the characters in the movie have an unprecedentedly low IQ?
But let’s remember that Spielberg made the film – and in addition to it, such talented comrades were involved as, for example, cameraman Janusz Kaminski (Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan, for a moment) and composer John Williams (the Harry Potter franchise and the same Schindler’s List). Therefore, in terms of visual and emotional parts, we get a cruel and beautiful story about wartime, which spares no one. Pastoral lubric landscapes coexist with epochal combat episodes, stunning with this contrast of War and Peace. Hate and love.
Small but incredibly bright and memorable roles went to Tom Hiddleston (Captain Nichols), Benedict Cumberbatch (Major Jamie Stewart), Eddie Marsan (Sgt. Fry), Toby Kebbell and David Thewlis. Emily Watson in the role of mother personifies, perhaps, all the mothers of the world. Nils Arestrup in the role of an unnamed grandfather, although he was invited to the film all for the same uncontrolled tearing - as a result, thanks to acting skills, rises above his very conditional character to forever remain in memory. They are the true adornment of this film, but, unfortunately, each of them is catastrophically small in the overall kaleidoscopic plot. Here, all attention is focused on Joey’s horse, which, in fact, serves as a measure of the humanity of all other heroes.
In fact, it is very difficult to evaluate such films - on the one hand, you realize that you have been given a surrogate completely designed to receive all sorts of awards and pump money out of the viewer - on the other hand, thanks to individual heroic episodes, you leave the auditorium partially spiritualized and, perhaps, even a little better than it was until now. The magical power of art, even if it is purely commercial art.
Among the huge selection of war films, none of them touched me as much as War Horse. Of course, knowing other works of Steven Spielberg, another could not be expected.
The film follows a boy named Albert and his special connection to a young horse named Joey, whom his father bought him for a huge sum of money. Joey and Albert become inseparable friends, but when World War I begins, Joey is sold to the army and sent to the front. Albert, not wanting to part with the horse, decides to find him and return home.
Throughout the film, we follow the adventures of Joey and Albert as they go through the war. The film shows us all the horrors and destruction of war, as well as the incredible power of friendship and faith, tells about the courage, survival and love between man and animal in the most difficult conditions of war.
The actors of the film – Jeremy Irwin, Peter Mullan cause sincere and deep emotions. Steven Spielberg is a director who often turns to historical events and social themes, and does so with great sensitivity, his films confirm that.
My conclusion of the film is that it raises questions about the meaninglessness of war and its devastating consequences, as well as evidence that animals also have compassion and a desire to return to their masters. Such an art cannot but delight. Thank you very much.
War Horse is an epic, strong and beautiful movie, with a very cool outback. Steven Spielberg’s directorial game exceeded all expectations, creating the most pleasant and high-quality picture. It is nice to watch in the circle of the family knowing that there will be a touching, beautiful story without modern "curves", lust, or obscene swearing.
The film tells the story of a boy named Albert living in England during the First World War. He discovers a young horse named Joey and establishes a strong friendship with him. When Joey is sold to the army and sent to the front, Albert decides to find him and bring him home. The whole film tells about their incredible journey through the war and about the obstacles, each has its own road and obstacles that they have to overcome separately.
The script of the film also deserves praise. It is well structured and develops the story smoothly and interestingly. In the film there are several storylines that connect and eventually create a full and rich ending.
The acting in the film is also worth the attention. Young talented actors like Jeremy Irwin as Albert and Tom Hiddleston as Captain Nicola Renton embody their characters with depth and emotional return. They skillfully and coolly convey the complexity of the story and evoke sympathy.
But like other films, War Horse has a number of drawbacks. And the first one is predictable plot, it follows traditional narrative lines and you already know what's going to happen. I would like to see more openness from other characters. Some of the characters in the picture are poorly developed. Still, I would like to establish more contact with everyone, or at least know some background to how this person was here.
But despite these shortcomings, the film still deserves attention and remains an impressive cinematic work. I would definitely recommend it for a family review.
War Horse is a vivid example of true friendship between man and animal. An ordinary family living in a village, working hard, decides to buy a horse. Arriving at an auction in a village where horses are sold, Ted was interested in a young horse, who had yet to learn everything. The wife is clearly not happy with this, because they have so much work and there is no time to train the horse, and there is no energy either. But for Albert it becomes a real joy and he called him Joey. He spends most of his time with him, plays with him, teaches and they become part of each other. But there are difficult times – the war. The British military comes to the boy and buys the horse for combat missions.
The theme of human-animal friendship is becoming more and more popular. I remember a lot of movies about it, but War Horse touched me the most. A very heartfelt film that couldn’t help but captivate me. The film makes you immerse yourself in the atmosphere and experience the strong emotions that the characters. The picture is instructive, in the sense that despite all that is happening in the world, you need to remain faithful and love your friends, no matter who is in the role of a friend: a person or a horse.
Steven Spielberg is a true professional in his field. In addition to the cool friendship between a boy and a horse, he showed what war is. The actors did a good job, too. I liked the boy’s father, Peter Mullan, who played the role well, as did Emily Watson, the boy’s mother. Of course, I liked Jeremy Irwin the lead role. And in general, here every character and every speech is thought out, they can not leave indifferent. Cohesive play of the actors and the whole team is the success of "War Horse".
War is the most terrible and senseless cause of mankind. I saw this when I saw War Horse. To convey the entire military atmosphere, and not just to convey, but also to force him to plunge into it – it is necessary to be a master of his craft, from this side Spielberg once again showed himself.
A magnificent film about the First World War, about the fate of many people, and one horse. The story of how an ordinary family needs to work hard to survive, but it needed a horse that could plow the land. When Ted came to the auction, he saw an absolute young horse with whom there was still a lot of work to be done, which did not prevent him from making his choice, and he bought it for a lot of money. When he returned home, his wife Rose was very indignant, because this is a young horse and it is not suitable for plowing. But for the boy Albert, it becomes a ray of joy, and the horse becomes his best friend. The guy starts doing it, even though the family doesn’t believe it. Hard times are coming, the First World War. The boy has to say goodbye to the horse because the British military buys the horse for combat. After telling many owners, Joan returns to his original owner.
It's a moving movie, you're watching in one breath! History is full of tragedy and fascinated feelings. War is a difficult time for everyone, but there is a little hope that everything will be fine. In the film, we see what people went through, their fate, and despite such a terrible word as “war”, there are still human qualities among the “military”. We see the horse passing from one hand to another, from another to another, and so on, but he had no attraction for any man like a boy. And even despite all that they went through and it would seem that they will not meet again, they managed to find each other.
A separate respect for the film director - Steven Spielberg. This is a man who managed to conquer the cinema. After watching his movie, we can conclude that he does not just shoot, but does it qualitatively. Cumberbatch, Watson is a British elite who has handled their role perfectly. Each of the characters creates an image that complements and forms an integral part of the film.
To sum up, we can say that this is a strong military film. Shooting, fire, war are all terrible, and the most senseless occupation of mankind. But the idea of this movie is cool. Director Spielberg really shoots high-quality pictures and it can not but please.
With everyone’s love for Steven Spielberg as a cult personality, sometimes they try to imitate him with the fact that he makes dramatic films, especially military dramas, with an eye on the Oscars and the Golden Globes. It is foolish to understand how much in this statement of truth, if from the pen of the master come really worthy films in his seventh ten. Looking back on the film’s 2012 movie premiere and subsequent replays, War Horse is not a masterpiece of war drama like Schindler’s List or Saving Private Ryan. But this is a decent, beautifully staged romanticized film with lively emotions and not so much promoted theme of the First World War.
It is not surprising that the creator of the original novel, on which the script was written, was touched by the stories of veterans of the First World War, as impressed by the statistics about the death of animals, horses, at the fronts. As viewers, we tend to have a weakness for touching animal stories, and War Horse is adept at dealing with emotions of emotion, pity, and outrage. It covers the whole palette from stressful emotions when animals suffer on screen, to very light in moments of comfort and triumph. Joey’s story is a metaphor for the tragedy of millions of animals and people who suffered and died on the fronts of the World War. Spielberg managed to maintain a balance between scenes of violence and a real family movie almost in the spirit of Disney.
In addition to a strong historical background with the theme of the First World War, the high-quality presentation of the described era plays a great importance. War horse skillfully beats not only, as you might expect, the fighting. History pauses for constant contrast. In one scene, we get aesthetic pleasure from the French outback, fields, a pond, a forest edge and a huge mill flooded with the evening sun. In the other, goosebumps of discomfort run through the skin when we try to see ourselves inside the location, namely in the trenches flooded with mud or among tangles of barbed wire on no man’s land. And the horse, as the character of the film, is a connecting link of anti-war themes. It is interesting what training the individual frames cost, but even human characters fade into the background in front of rippling Joey.

When the film is directed by Steven Spielberg, it is clear that there will be something cool and delightful. That’s what I thought when I started watching this movie. Before our attention is a chic, military drama telling an incredible story. Seeing this film, he settled in my memory, and I thought about him for a long time, analyzed everything. The story is really incredible, and it's exciting. Spielberg always shoots high-quality cinema with deep thinking, and does it perfectly, for this he thanked.
1912. We see an ordinary family that gets everything done with hard work. The ray of joy for a young boy named Albert becomes a young horse, which his father bought him. The boy begins to do it, but the horse becomes a burden for his parents, because they have no money at all. However, they leave it until the First World War. The horse is taken by the British military, and we have a long and rich history of the horse Joey. He went through many owners, told a lot, but most importantly, all the ways led him back home, to the first owner Albert.
You watch the movie fascinated. History is full of human drama and tragedy. War is a terrible thing, but there is always hope that all will be well. We see a series of human destinies, broken destinies, all because of war. Against the background of the horse’s path from one hand to another, we see several stories of characters for whom war became fate and doom. The movie is very strong. It touches something important in the hearts of the audience. The picture has its value, and as always Spielberg wants to shake hands, because his next film turned out to be something bitter and beautiful, fascinating and sad, strong and life-affirming.
In addition to gorgeous directing, I want to pay attention to the camera work and scenery – all at the highest level. All this made the picture so beautiful and pleasant to see. After this film, the British actor Jeremy Irwin is well remembered. In the role of his parents, it was nice to see such respected actors as Peter Mullan and Emily Watson, who made up a warm and cordial duet. The rest of the cast was multifaceted, with many actors from different countries. And with whom the horse went through this story, you worry for each character.
War Horse is a 2011 war drama and an interesting, powerful film from Spielberg to whom I say yes. The story of Albert and Joey is full of something heartfelt, warm, taking us into something family, as if into our lives, and so want the characters to have everything well. For me, this film is remembered as a good, deep and high-quality film, which is one of the first always comes to mind related stories about horses in world cinema. Thank you very much.
There are small days, there are important days. What do we have today?
You are flying over the area where there is a war. And you can’t look down, you have to look forward... otherwise you won’t come home.
England on the eve of the First World War, in Devon County, an elderly limp old man Ted Narracott (Peter Mulan) buys a young stallion at an auction, giving an impressive amount of 30 guineas for him. Rose (Emily Watson), Ted's wife, after learning that her husband has committed an ill-considered act, asks for the horse back. Narracotta's son Albert (Jeremy Irwin) persuades his mother to leave the horse, promising that he will ride the horse and be able to plow the uncultivated rocky field and sow it, thereby paying back the debt to the landlord in time.
Albert calls his horse Joey, the guy begins to take care of the horse as his faithful companion, all day they spend time together becoming real friends. When the time of the Great War comes, Albert's father secretly sells the horse to the captain of the cavalry Nichols (Tom Hiddleston), after learning of this, Albert asks the captain not to take Joey, to which he answers, I will take care of him and at the end of the war I will deliver him alive. In memory of himself, the guy ties the banner of his father to the bridle of the horse. So Joey will have to survive all the trials on the fields of the First World War, prepared by fate.
Director Steven Spielberg shot the picture primarily about friendship, love and devotion. The film consists of several stories of ordinary people who find themselves in such a difficult time for the world. Here we see the story of the boy Albert’s devoted friendship with his horse Joey, the story of two brothers who did not want to fight on the battlefield, and the story of a little girl who stayed with her grandfather on an occupied farm. The film is imbued with the idea of humanism, every hero who meets Joey on his way helps him while remaining a person, no matter which side he is on. So you can remember the scene where a German private takes horses from the battlefield, where he lets Joey go and shouts that he would be saved. A very memorable scene where two soldiers from opposite camps help Joey get out of the barbed wire. Thus, Joey’s horse during the entire war managed to inspire many people and inspire hope in everyone.
In general, the film leaves only positive emotions and impressions. This is not a realistic war drama, where corpses and torn limbs are all around, Spielberg’s picture is completely about something else, about the life and friendship of people who remained human, no matter what!
Eve of the First World War, Devon County, similar rather than England, and Hobbiton. Farmer Ted Narracot buys a running horse at auction instead of an ordinary working horse. Ted's son Albert is delighted, his wife is terrified, the landlord plans to ruin the poor farmer if he can not adapt the horse for arable land. But the horse turns out to be more versatile than one could imagine, and not only saves Ted’s family from poverty and ruin, but also gives hope to people caught in the war on both sides of the front.
The horse was not very successful at the box office: the target audience, judging by the plot, was supposed to be children, but marketers turned a humanistic fairy tale into a military drama. Meanwhile, if Steven Spielberg uses elements of drama, it is only to retain attention - he is more interested in didactic moments, small parables, of which the film is almost entirely composed. Loyalty conquers death, enemies can find common ground, war is bad and scary, especially if you look at the absurdities happening through the eyes of a horse. To screen platitudes from Spielberg is better than many, but template ideas are so empty that you can only look at a beautiful picture.
“War Horse” is a one hundred percent fairy tale, and the story of the film is much easier to imagine in the form of a children’s feature film. The cinematography here looks alien: the bombing of a French city or the gas attack in the trench - as if guests from a completely different movie, not the one where the whole plot is built around a talented horse who understands people better than themselves. Work with animals on the set of Spielberg masterfully staged, and the greatest admiration is not even horses, but a trained goose. Incredible for the bird's mind acting work.
Animals in modern Western culture are endowed with a higher understanding, and a film about an astute dog or horse in our time will not surprise anyone. But here’s the problem: there is nothing to understand a war horse. The heroes of Spielberg’s film are simplified even by the standards of a fairy tale, they are eager to live honestly and give good, even with rifles and sabers at hand. Dirt, explosions and amputations do not make the movie anti-war: from the beginning it is clear that the bullets will mow down only minor characters, and the horse will jump over the tank if necessary. War begins with joy when a nation sends its best sons to the front; war ends with joy when the best son returns home. Except that the goose did not live to a sweet moment, drenched in golden glow.
I'll find you, baby. Wherever you are, I will find you, Joey.
Steven Spielberg. The man who deserves the title: Hollywood's Last Storyteller. After all, no matter what film he took up, be it “Jurassic Park”, “Terminal” or “Catch Me If You Can”, he gets a beautiful and fascinating fairy tale, in which there is a place for devoted friendship and true love, well, the dangers will be at least spared. And it is for this reason that the films of this talented director can be taken like a medicine. A cure for melancholy and bad mood. The same film is our guest today, whose name is “War Horse”.
1914. The world is waiting for war. In any case, politicians, merchants, military marshals and regular troops are waiting for it with a fading heart, and as for ordinary peasants, they try not to fill their heads with high matters and reflections on who and what has not divided, they have other problems - the barn door has shattered, the belly is not fed, or even the hail has beaten the entire crop and we must think how to live the next winter. And the hero of today's history is a young farmer Albert Narracot, as well as his best, but extremely stubborn, friend - no less young stallion named Joey, who also did not care about the coming war, but the war cared about our heroes. Albert's father, to pay off his debts, sells the horse to a French officer, and Albert, unable to bear such a loss, decides to enlist in the army in order to find his faithful friend. Will the heroes succeed or will they die on the battlefield? This is what the movie says, not me.
I, in turn, will talk about the fact that the film was not so warmly received by the public and exclamations of indignation could be heard with the same frequency as flattering words about the film. Why is that? And the thing is that the story completely revolves around Joey, which is actually logical, because what is the name of the picture, such is the content, while people and their tragedies are shown in the background. In other words, the film will appear a great many heroes, each of whom is quite an interesting personality with his own character and views on life, but only their screen time is strictly limited, and therefore does not get imbued with proper sympathy for this or that hero. Oh, yes, the people in this film act solely as a nice addition, not as a moving force. And while many of my colleagues find this approach perplexing and sometimes irritating, I like this way of looking at things. After all, if you think about it, then everything happens in war, you are surrounded by a lot of people, each of whom has both a personality, and the past and the present, as well as hope for the future, and the story of his life soldiers would be happy to tell, but here is an order to attack and you have bullets whistling over your head, and next to falls a guy whose face was dotted with freckles and who a couple of hours ago told that at home his bride is waiting. All this is terrible, but this is the harsh truth of war, which breaks fate and sometimes simply does not allow you to get to know a person better. And because the fate of people only casually touch Joey, and with him and the viewer. Strictly, cruelly, but fairly truthful.
However, at the same time, we should not forget that this is a fairy tale, and if so, then there is a place for both miracles and kindness in the hearts of people that Joey will meet on his way. The kind of rays of light that disperse the darkness called war and demonstrate that on both sides of the front there were living people with their fears, experiences, hopes and aspirations, and not evil monsters and the scene with an English and German soldier standing on no man's land is a vivid example of this. Explain what the salt of this scene I will not, because it can spoil you, dear viewer, the impression of viewing, but it is very strong and, as they say, takes by the soul.
Naturally, the visual component was at the height, whether it was the special effects themselves, the play of light and shadow, or the ashes that covered the city like snow. The musical accompaniment, however, was not remembered and I am not even sure whether it was at all, but on the other hand, dramatic melodies are great for films where the main characters are people, but in films where the characters are animals this is not particularly necessary, so the viewer’s eye is riveted to a bird, a cat, a dog, or in our case – a horse.
Outcome? A qualitatively shot war film, which gives a certain fabulousness and faith in a better tomorrow, because looking at the hard way Joey wants him only one thing - to survive and return to his master. And if a film can evoke such emotions, how can one speak of it in a negative way?

Among those films that flash with enviable frequency on the big screen, always especially attractive look those whose credits appear the name of one of the venerable directors of his time. Such films will not go unnoticed, at least - will make a pleasant impression, as a maximum - will remain in memory for a long time. However, this obvious pattern did not prevent the film "War Horse" (like an old thick book, frightening in its volume) from dusting on the back of the hard drive. For a long time I was in no hurry to pay attention to him. Everything is very simple: in the main role, the animal is an exact guarantee that the whole action will be accompanied by stormy streams of tears and crippling towards all mankind, if the animal suffers through the fault of it. Why bother your soul? Especially at night. Time passed and the film quietly waited for its time.
The touching story of the unusual friendship between the boy Albert and the wonderful horse Joey seems scattered through the frames: it covers many fates and events through which faithful friends go in search of each other. Such a large scale and impressive timekeeping do not adversely affect the narrative itself. It is not perceived scattered, drawn out and even more boring. This whole picture attracts attention not only with an unusual story, but also with the ability to easily break any cynicism, awaken emotions and lead to catharsis. Apparently, Mr. Spielberg, having once found the key to the soul of the viewer, learned to play on her strings impeccably, not allowing himself to fake. That skill pays off. When you sincerely worry about the horse and emotions at the limit, it is probably not so important that many events are predictable, and many characters remain only schematically drawn pictures. Do these characters really care so much? After all, the main character in this story is a wonderful, almost magical horse Joey. He, so strong and stubborn, rushes forward, without looking back, touching many human lives, like a catalyst, charges, adds more light to each of them, awakens all the best qualities that fill the soul fully. So simple and accessible he gives people what they, lost in the chaos of war, teetering on the brink of despair, fear and hatred, so easily lose — an insatiable desire to live. To live without looking back, sincerely, with unquenchable hope, filling everything with love.
Perhaps after some time after viewing the charm of the picture will fade a little - and the story of a wonderful horse, lost in the corners of memory, will no longer seem so attractive and significant. But, for sure, those emotions that throbbed so violently for more than two hours will echo inside for a long time to come. Is this not the highest achievement of the film “War Horse”?

In recent years, Steven Spielberg, formerly known as a director of family films, began making historical films. “Munich”, “Lincoln”, “Spy Bridge” – each of them was for history lovers as a pleasant gift, even despite some shortcomings. The War Horse was no exception. This is a very peculiar movie, in which there are both pros and cons, but the advantages in the end still outweigh the disadvantages.
At the center of the story is not people or even the horse that the film is called, but war. The First World War, one of the most brutal and merciless wars of mankind, is better represented here than anywhere else. Moreover, the immediate clashes of armies do not come to the fore, but military life, full of hardships and difficulties. And watching him is very interesting — Spielberg always pays a lot of attention to small details, creating a very well-developed picture of what is happening.
The main plot revolves around the beautiful horse Joey and his first owner Albert. The director shows us that not only do dogs become attached to their masters, horses can also look for lost friends among people even after many years. The finale of the picture, of course, happy, but at the same time able to cause a stingy tear - as always at Spielberg.
Unfortunately, along with the merits of his early work in War Horse, some shortcomings also migrated. Personally, I would note the main thing - some artificiality of individual scenes. Well, the horse cannot walk on “no man’s land”, tightly shot from both sides, in full growth for a long time.
However, despite everything, I consider this film one of the main masterpieces of Spielberg’s career. This is the best film about the First World War, about the friendship of a man with an intelligent animal and just a wonderful picture that everyone can understand.

Noble handsome, purposeful fighter, intelligent and brave - all these words are not about a person. War Horse is Steven Spielberg’s new movie. A masterpiece that is presented to us in the shell of the film for the mass audience. A fairy tale that says that in all people there is a particle of good.
The main character is, of course, a horse named Joy, around which different people appear. We see the characters of these people and how they affect Joey.
For some reason, an animal always arouses good feelings in a person like no other person. A handsome stallion that makes you admire yourself, and generally able to move on feats. Next to such a delightful horse you feel nobler, more generous, kinder and more courageous. And looking at how Joy like a bird flies over the battlefield, as he breaks through the explosions, through the trenches, breaking barbed wire, involuntarily clenching his fists, and his heart rushes into battle with this swift horse.
Of course, for the most part, the film has a fairy tale story. The horse was incredibly lucky throughout the picture, but you know what to do? Get rid of skepticism and enjoy the action on the screen. After all, it is so eager to believe that a rocky field can be plowed, and the soldiers of the opposing sides shake hands, because they have nothing to share.
I would like to point out that the film has an amazing picture. Each frame is like an artist's canvas. Cinematography is high. I really enjoyed the aesthetics of seeing this painting. The atmosphere of war and Victorian England is perfectly conveyed. The actors have done well with their roles, especially good ones: Tom Hiddolston, Emily Watson, Benedict Cumberatch and Jeremy Irwin himself. The most important actor is the horse. Or rather a group of horses. They did the role brilliantly! A small minus - everyone (both Germans and French) even for some reason speaks English.
The painting really pleased me. This is one of the few films where the male audience applauded and the female shed tears. The film really touches and awakens the kindest and most tender feelings. Thanks to Spielberg. With his latest works, he delights the viewer.
I would like to say that Spielberg’s grandfather is back, his humanism looks good again, and his style is respected. Spielberg is one of the few directors whose underwriting is easily guessed, the techniques are well known, he reached his peak, went into the production of numerous films, including not the most talented transformers and questionable series, and then suddenly comes a tightly knocked down historical tape “Lincoln, & # 34; and the dark horse, sorry for taftology – War Horse.”
The film adequately juggles feelings of adventure and fearlessness, love, hope, yes, only positive feelings. There are no traitors, and a negative character only appears at the beginning of the film, in the pre-war period. Three parallel stories that connect, the horse as a symbol, as evidence of a miracle, three completely unique stories, along all front lines, there is no politics in the film, there are no positive or negative sides, and the war at the end of the viewing is perceived as a terrible disregard for the necessary human nature, it does not make sense.
Venerable actors outplay each other in small but stunning roles, there are questions for the main actor Jeremy Irving, it seems he is stuck in the image of a blue-eyed boy, but these are small things. The story of Emily’s grandfather about mail pigeons flying under bullets, home both the central idea and the horse rushes under the crossfire, through death and tragedy, gets tangled in barbed wire, and two soldiers of the belligerent armies, free him from mortal fetters, showing the whole absurdity of the war, although the episode with the “German cutters” is superfluous.
The story of the boy and his horse is central, but the rest are no less touching, independent. If you don’t mind this movie, you’re either a “plant” or dead. Sentimentality and humanism are the main qualities of this film, and you realize that the words “this can’t be” are replaced by reverence for the courage of the characters, for the pride of valor, for the return of the banner, for the strength to protect your brother, even under the penalty of treason, yes, this is a sentimental film, but it is worth remembering that of the three stories, only the first one ends positively.
The permanent John Williams, his magical soundtrack, divine camera work, Janusz Kaminsky, the scattering of stars and the Spielberg whom we remember, in the films, “Schindler’s List”, “E.T.”, “Saving Private Ryan”.
War takes a life, and under volleys of guns, turns personalities into cannon fodder. And an absolute talent to turn a war movie into something creative.
- “You are flying over a country where there is war. And you can’t look down, you have to look forward... otherwise you won’t come home. "
Conclusion: the film is worth watching for everyone, regardless of age, nationality, religion, it is a good movie!
In the fire of war. In a loving heart. There is hope...
War takes everything. And everyone..." (c)
Steven Spielberg is one of the great directors of world cinema. During his long career, he calmly took on a variety of productions, in a variety of genres. He had action films, adventures, thrillers, fiction, melodramas and even animation. But from time to time, the “old man in a blue baseball cap” shoots such strong, soul-weaving dramas that instantly enter the lists of the best Hollywood and world films. At one time, he shocked everyone with the gloomy “Schindler’s List”, made them remember World War II with the cruel “Saving Private Ryan”, and most recently touched the handsome “Battle Horse”. Which can be safely ranked among these two, the above tapes, which are in his extensive filmography perhaps the best.
Based on the book of the same name by Michael Morpurgo, this film tells the touching story of the friendship of a stallion named Joey and farm son Albert. Once at the fair, the father of the family, a chromonopod drunkard, bought a racehorse for rabid money. After a family scandal, the Narracotta decided to leave the horse, and the boy undertook to drive around him and teach him to plow the field. During the few years that the horse lived in their family, Albert became very attached to him. When World War I broke out, the family was forced to sell Joey to an army in need of horses. Seeing with what pain the guy says goodbye to the horse, the officer who bought it promised to return the stallion after his return from the front. But in the first battle, an English officer was killed and Joey was caught by the Germans. And then he visited the French and, having passed many trials, after many battles, was again with the British. Where, under a very incredible combination of circumstances, he met his first owner - now a private, blind from gas Albert.
The plot unfolds slowly, as befits any saga. And "War Horse" is not only a drama, but also an exciting, large-scale, stunning in its scope movie spectacle. In the film a lot of time is devoted to the description of the army life of soldiers of different countries. Through Joey's travels, the meaninglessness and brutality of that war is revealed. After all, those soldiers to whom fate led the horse were simple people, far from state problems and political convictions. Neither the British nor the Germans nor the French wanted to fight and die. This is just how life circumstances, independent of them, have developed, which in the future will become history. These are privates, brothers Gunther and Michael. Then Frederick, who knows how to handle horses, who tries in every possible way to alleviate the suffering of unfortunate animals. Shortly before returning to the front, Joey finds himself on a French farm, with an old man and his little granddaughter, who wants to keep him. But soldiers come and take him back to war. There is a very strong episode of the release of Joey entangled in barbed wire by two fighters in the so-called "no man's land". A German and an Englishman, at the risk of being killed, crawl up to a mud-wounded horse and together free him from his fetters. It is shown that soldiers of warring countries do not have personal hatred for each other. And the German and the Englishman part friends, asking each other to be more careful and not to be exposed to bullets. There is also an infantry attack involving Private Albert Narracott. The way in battle Albert saves the life of his neighbor - the son of their local rich man Lyons, with whom he was not friends as a civilian. Or an episode with a guy left in the trenches, who was ordered by an officer before the attack to shoot anyone who would climb back into the trench during the fight, or else they would shoot him. And as some time after the beginning of the offensive, from the powder fog and the roar of shells, frightened boy soldiers began to crawl into the trench. Unable to carry out the order, the guy is in tears and screaming, he climbs out of the trench and runs into the attack, hiding in a veil of fog. A very dramatic and intense episode. I think that during his shooting, he also strongly touched the filmmakers themselves - very naturally, young artists everything turned out.
The film is majestic and poetic-beautiful. Spielberg’s permanent operator, Janusz Kominski, was able to transport the viewer to the beginning of the last century. Showing him, familiar only from old paintings or black and white, a little funny (due to the speed of the projection of equipment of those years, soldiers and antediluvian military equipment quickly move in the frame) the chronicle of the First World War, so realistic that you seem to have visited these trenches and terrible cavalry and infantry attacks. And war is shown through the eyes of a frightened, ignorant horse. Strikingly sad, and aching footage, which shows how in the big, beautiful, black eyes of stallion Joey reflects the scene rattling on the battlefield. Together with the wonderful music of John Williams, it makes a lasting impression.
In general, Steven Spielberg is able to shoot so that when viewing his paintings, in some moments, a person stands in the throat, and tears turn up in front of his eyes. For the director, this is the highest aerobatics of skill. And although there is an opinion that it is much more difficult to say that it makes a person laugh than to make him cry, in fact it is not. You can laugh at stupid and vulgar jokes, but let a tear, moving over the plot of the film, i.e. empathizing with its heroes, this happens extremely rarely. Personally, I can only remember a few films that caused such a strong reaction in me. The War Horse is among them. And despite the fact that the film has enough blood and cruelty, death and other things that accompany any war, the movie turned out to be incredibly life-affirming and soulful. Such works are usually called great works. They are not forgotten after watching, they want to return to them from time to time. Such a movie, no matter how pathetic it sounds, helps to live. In conclusion, I will say: watch a good movie, do not lose hope, love your family and friends. And God save us from war.

Steven Spielberg is a brilliant director of all time. This man has a great talent to create films that take the soul of everyone. Just remember the movies: Lincoln, Catch Me If You Can, Schindler’s List. Do you remember how you felt after his films? Personally, I'm just admiring. "War Horse" - a film that touched my psyche well, and also caused admiration, became for me another masterpiece of Spielberg.
The film has just a gorgeous plot. Every minute of the movie is connected to the previous minute. We can say that the plot is like a blue gold chain. It's clear and clear. The plot itself says that one of the financial problems of the farming family had to sell his son’s horse. What happened to the horse? Or will he return to his master, who was waiting for him? Or will the horse survive a more animal-like situation? And here began a quality good movie that everyone needs to see.
What's the movie about? You can immediately think of the owner looking for a horse throughout the film. No, that's not what this movie is about. This film is about the war and about the horse, which opened everyone in his path regret, kindness and most importantly, despite the war - humanity. There's a moment in the movie that hooked me so much that the lump of my throat slowly went up. It was a dialogue between military men who fought at the behest of their kings. I want to say that it was this dialogue that showed that these two young people do not want war, but only peace.
The film is so big! There are many extras, different actors that each of us knows. Spielberg's films have always received a lot of special effects. I'm very surprised that he balanced everything well. This film also has very cool soundtracks that convey to us through the screen lightness and some hope.
I recommend everyone watch! A masterpiece! Bow to Spielberg!
This is my horse. He himself is a crow, white golfes on his feet, a diamond-shaped stain on his head, also white.
To begin with, the film began to watch because of two names on the cast list: Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch. And she was indignant at the fact that there were so few named English men in general. I was wrong.
Later, when the picture was flooded with cold water of the plot, even without these loud men, I realized what this film was and what it was worth.
Spielberg held me through the edge of a glass of his apogee, a defenseless horse tangled in barbed wire on the field of a recent battle between two regiments.
Here you go.
- What is it?
- German cutters from friend from Düsseldorf.
My score for the film is definitely 10 out of 10. Amazing. The rich taste of the film makes you think about some things to watch. Bravo. The actors, chosen perfectly; the rainy atmosphere of Britain in all its severity, its inexhaustible stones and fields, views and faceted blue sky overhead; a sharp plot like a stormy stream among the stones; humanity and inhumanity in its manifestations – all this is “War Horse” Stephen.
I suggest you watch it. The movie is like a three-layer cake. And one of the layers is Tom and Benedict, but we need to look further.
I was inspired to watch this film by an interesting trailer for the performance of the same name, which was shown before Frankenstein: Cumberbatch in the cinema as part of the TheatreHD project. The action was intrigued and left a pleasant impression.
But when I decided to see this picture of Steven Spielberg, I did not expect to get such a surge of emotions, so much experience and feelings. I guess if I had read the movie description before I sat down to watch it, it would have been much easier. Declared in the credits Hiddleston and Cumberbatch delighted the eye, but who knew that everything would turn out like this?
1. This is the story of England. A simple peasant boy and his horse. Friends do not spill water, but everything changes with the advent of war. The short word "war" has brought so many horrific events to the self that the film depicts through the constant changes poor Joey is thrown into from one master to another. An English officer (by the way, Hiddleston), German boys, a French girl, a heavy share of a cargo horse in the army. How much did Joey and his friend, the Insubordinate (Benedict's horse, by the way) have to endure? Showing us all the changes that haunt horses, we see war from within. We can remember once again how terrible it is when people die. When all living things die.
2. Directing. The director is a master of his craft, who keeps us in a state of emotional tension almost all the action of the picture, only sometimes allowing us to rest and feel some calm. We see how the fates of different people unfold before us with their problems, with their successes. But they all have one thing in common: they live in times of war. In their grief. That's their fate. The only thing to note, if you are too sensitive and emotional attitude to animals in the movies (and there are many such people), then be careful with watching - it is given quite hard. The film is good, but really emotionally challenging. Too much grief. Too many trials.
3. The cast. I have no complaints about him. In addition to the main character, his family and horses, all the other heroes flash occasionally. Bringing in British movie stars was a good move to bring even more attention to the film. Each of the characters tells us a little about himself, each shows his attitude to what is happening. But I think for most people, Joey will be the main character. And he played really well. Bravo to the teachers of such a beautiful and obedient horse!
4. Music. The composer of the film did his best. All the music is like, you know, it's like the music of Joey's own emotions. When the horse was interested in something, she was so interested in herself, when frightening - frightening. Yeah, that makes sense. And all that is how music is written, but in this film, it somehow captures and unites us with the story of Joey.
5. Well, anyway. The movie is good and I never regret watching it. But it's still very heavy. Several times I had the urge to turn it off: "No, I can't do it anymore." But the hope for the best does not leave until the end of the picture, forcing you to continue watching and waiting for the final. Great work was done in which each participant played a role. Even the simple German soldier Peter was important, because with his help we were shown that even in times of war people must remain human. To each other, to our lesser brothers. Those we've tamed. But, as Exupery said, we are responsible for them. So is Albert -- he's responsible to Joey. And Joey knows that, and he'll do anything to get back to his master.
Great movie. Now I am even more convinced of my decision to watch the theater next time.
Old Steven Spielberg, by right, can be considered one of the best directors in the world of cinema. And although he does magic with different genres, I still believe that first of all, he is the creator of family spectacles. Of course, in my personal elite, Ridley Scott and James Cameron also confidently stood, but Spielberg is not inferior to them.
War Horse is a beautiful, touching, family, military drama. In fact, I admit that she is, in some places, overly snotty. But it's not good. The soulful story of a boy and a horse is simply obliged to touch and attract people to the screens. I’ll be honest, the picture looks boring. But only because she's trying to be too human. Again, guys, that's good. The world is full of cruelty and injustice. So sometimes it's nice to see a movie like this. Especially if it comes out of the hands of a skilled creator. I'm not going to describe the plot. A film about the love of man and animal. Their difficult journey and separation. And all difficulties, in the end, lead to an emotional climax. It is likely that you will, more than once, wipe a tear off your eyes. At least the movie will touch you. It makes you sad, happy, worried and enjoy watching. A budget of sixty-six million dollars, by modern standards, is money, not so huge. However, in Spielberg's hands, they were spent wisely. The landscapes are beautiful and extensive, as befits. Scenes of military battles (albeit them, and not so much) are filmed qualitatively and spectacularly. Costumes, decorations and makeup are not inferior to the above. Perhaps this is not the height of the spectacle and scale of what is happening, but, by and large, it is not necessary here. The main thing is to keep the bar, put your soul and give the viewer what he wants. With these tasks, Spielberg coped. I liked the game and the casting. All of them. Jeremy Irwin, not deprived of talent, keeps confident and tries. Peter Mullan and Emily Watson are very convincing. Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston got memorable roles. It seems that nothing super strong showed, but worked screen time skillfully. Well played by Niels Arestrup. I liked the cute girl performed by Celine Buckens. I remember Toby Kebbell. It is also appropriate to praise the work of cameraman Janusz Kaminski, who, not for the first time, works with Spielberg. I liked the music. It is not very memorable, and, and, a masterpiece soundtrack can not be called. But, the compositions perfectly convey the mood of what is happening and add emotionality to the film.
In general, a worthy (though not the best) work of Steven Spielberg, which, I would recommend to anyone who appreciates the work of the director, loves kind touching pictures, and wants to relax while watching a family drama. Perhaps something new and special, you will not find in the picture. Similar stories, with other heroes, you've seen. I’ve probably seen some more interesting movies. But still, the tape deserves attention. Especially if you like animals, especially horses. Welcome, friends.
Steven Spielberg is already a stamp. The brand is not only good and high-quality cinema, but also fascinating. Looking at his long directorial career, replete with paintings of completely different genres, it seems that he can make any movie. But to work with animals in leading roles for the first time he happened during the film adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel “War Horse” in 2011.
The story of how a teenager became attached to a young stallion, and then parted with him, by the will of fate, leading a grown horse to the battlefields of the First World War, is not, oddly enough, the main one. The main idea is laid in the words of one of the many characters in the film: “You fly, and there is so much suffering down there, and you realize that you can’t look down.” To get home, you have to look ahead. Is it possible to have more courage?
The luxurious horse, which with incredible courage rushed along the fronts of the war, with valor went into a dashing attack, not afraid of bullets, was captured, where he was subjected to hard work, touchingly cared for his combat black maned comrade. Finder, as the stallion is actually called, had thirteen understudy in the picture, but he performed all the main episodes requiring the manifestation of incredible ingenuity and acting skills himself. Truly amazed, no, not the skill of training, but the mind of this beautiful animal, which is able to express emotions even with a look!
The film managed to light up a very large number of famous artists, especially the young pleiad - David Thewlis, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tobby Kebbel. But all their roles, and even the role of the main character, are episodic. The kaleidoscopic nature of the action, however, does not divide the picture, leaving it whole. After all, the fate of the stallion Joey is like a rod on which the fates of the characters are strung. Spielberg saturates the picture with bright colors for completeness of perception, because each of the episodes enriches the action with its shade of mood. The color palette changes all the time, alternates, sometimes thickening the tone to black, and then brightening it. For example, a scene almost full of hopeless cruelty, when a horse is harnessed into a plow, forcing a rocky field to plow under the hill. Spielberg here tries to concentrate a large cascade of emotions of the viewer, laying the elements of tempering the future character of the horse Joey. One of the central moments of the picture exactly makes you look at the screen with a tremor of the heart - a tormented and wounded horse, waiting for the right moment, runs away, jumping trenches with soldiers, flying in a gallop under a massive shelling of howitzers, tearing off barbed wire fences again and again, eventually getting entangled in steel threads and hopelessly falling to the ground, bleeding.
Steven Spielberg with each of his films more and more asserts himself as a genius of modern cinema, marking a new round of development of the world of blue. Fresh paintings from under his pen do not take long to wait, regularly going out in wide rental and collecting an impressive grateful audience. The "war horse" stands out somewhat from this canvas of epochality. Behind the powerful cover hides a movie largely shot according to classical patterns, where the viewer clearly defined places for sentimentality. But how damn bright, beautiful and elegant Spielberg is able to present any of his projects! Let a little “vanilla”, but incredibly fascinating came out of him “War Horse”. The story from the screen is so convincing and believable that you begin to unwittingly miss all the events. Looking into the eyes of the horse, you wonder how similar animals are to people. And they have feelings too, they just can't put it into words.
Professionalism is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, knowing the whole background of the process, you can be a hundred sure of the final result. On the other hand, it is confidence that makes the process itself routine and all its fruits expected. The element of surprise is atrophied. Such an unpleasant story turned out with Steven Spielberg’s film “War Horse” (2011), which the director designed a master class on squeezing tears of happiness.
Looking ahead, War Horse was nominated for all the leading film awards in the world, including Saturn, BAFTA, Oscar and Golden Globe. And got nothing. Nothing at all. Even Spielberg’s home company DreamWorks remained without prizes, whose specialists were traditionally responsible for sound, editing and visual special effects. Despite the fact that the chances of the military drama were much more than that of Munich in 2003. Complete defeat on all fronts, given that in the box office, "War Horse" skipped very unconvincingly, demonstrating results that anyone could be proud of, but not Spielberg.
Let’s not forget that the director of quadrology about the adventures of “Indiana Jones”, the author of “Alien” and “Schindler’s List” is rightfully considered one of the most influential filmmakers in Hollywood. To achieve this status, one talent will not be enough. The fact is that Spielberg, a prominent representative of the generation of kinownderkinds of the 80s, is not only an inventive creator, but also a calculating pragmatist. This proves the fact that the relative failure with "Battle Horse" did not upset Stephen too much. Immediately after that, he switched to an almost win-win option, based on his next film Lincoln, a biography of the father of the American nation. And, apparently, this time the Academy will be more favorable to him.
... In the early twentieth century, the concept of “horsepower” was perceived by people literally, and not within the framework of the assessment of the power of the internal combustion engine. A farmer without a horse was considered a lost man. That’s why when Ted Narracott brought home not a mighty stallion for arable land, but an unbroken racehorse he had bought for a lunatic sum of 30 guineas, his wife Rose was enraged. Not only has it been a poor year, but Ted also owes a local landlord, who is just waiting for the right moment to put Narracotta and his family out on the street. Not too worried about the future only his son Albert, who since childhood dreamed of his own horse and happily began to teach a pet simple tricks.
However, despite the local successes of Albert and his pet Joey, things were getting worse at the farm. And then thunder broke out in the middle of a clear sky and the kingdom entered the First World War. Taking advantage of the moment, the father sold the stallion to an English officer going to the front line. Albert was beside himself with grief, but was forced to obey the will of the head of the family.
And from that moment began the misadventures of Joey, who during the war managed to visit many hypostases. Fate threw a war horse into both warring camps. The war takes everything from everyone, but it could not destroy the friendship of the two hearts, and, sooner or later, the life paths of Albert and Joey will cross again.
The story of the birth of “War Horse” began in 1982, when the novel of the same name by Michael Morpurgo was published. The book is based on personal observations of the writer and the stories of veterans of the First World War, in which Britain alone lost up to 2% of the working-age population and almost a million horses. Morpurgo wrote a novel counting on schoolchildren, and it was in the status of a children's writer that he became famous in his native England.
The book interested local theatergoers and was successfully staged on the West End stage, where it caught the eye of Spielberg’s close friend and colleague, producer Kathleen Kennedy. The decision to film the adaptation of “War Horse” was made in record time, the script was entrusted to the author of “Four Weddings and One Funeral” Richard Curtis, the director’s chair, after some thought, Spielberg himself took up the project, involving his permanent assistants – the operator Janusz Kaminski and the composer John Williams. In other words, the director began to shoot Saving Private Joey, only without Tom Hanks, but with horses. The choice of the narration era seemed to win, it is good that the events of the First World in cinema are covered much worse than the events of the forties of the twentieth century.
It’s hard to blame Spielberg for not being able to make war movies. This is what is called a stone in the wrong garden, because thanks to his military dramas “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan”, the director moved from the camp of entertainment cinema to the list of truly serious Hollywood directors. The problem is not “inability”, but in skill.
“War Horse” is a heroic epic, verified to the smallest detail. Spielberg knows exactly where emotional tension peaks to make the viewer sneak up behind a handkerchief. The confident cameraman Kaminsky focuses on the peaceful face (in the film, horses are clearly better treated than people) of the deceased horse, while the composer Williams tells the viewer with a tearful melody that it is time to not be ashamed of tears.
These proven and simple manipulations are clearly traced throughout the two-plus hours. Neither the brilliant acting of predominantly British performers, nor the chic panoramic views of rural England and war-torn France, nor the realistic battle shootings can obscure the fact that the authors are nothing short of juggling the audience all the way. The picture is true, brutal, convincing in detail and global in its rejection of war in general, but the spark of life is lost, which is not at all like the Spielberg we know.
In the tape a lot of successful finds, creative and visual. The director had a difficult task to make a film about the war, but try not to scare the viewer away with bloody details, without which his latest dramatic films can not do. Some scenes of “Munich” still stand before my eyes, and the Russian viewer is deprived of this “joy”, because the censorship of the First channel thoroughly shakes the tape. In the case of “Battle Horse” there is no such need, the creators themselves got rid of excessively painful episodes and achieved the most commercial rating of PG-13, which, however, did not greatly affect the box office.
The trouble, in part, is that after the inhumane footage of the massacre in Saving Private Ryan, the unexpected surge of absurd humanism in Fight Horse causes fans of Spielberg’s talent to unconsciously break the pattern. Taking up the film adaptation of the novel about humanity and self-sacrifice, the director could not help but understand that he would have to contradict himself.
After the enchanting scoundrel performed by Rafe Fiennes (Schindler’s List), it is somehow impossible to believe that a military drama can completely do without negative characters. In this regard, we have to admit that “War Horse” is just technically flawless, chicly shot and staged, but a fairy tale that has nothing to do with reality.
In the winter of 2011, another beautiful work of Steven Spielberg with the title "War Horse" was released in the world. It is worth noting that the advertising campaign, held in the fall, and the budget of $66 million significantly warmed up interest in this film and instantly turned it into one of the most anticipated films of the end of last year. And it is not surprising, because after the first week of rental in cinemas, the vicissitudes of life and friendship of Albert and his four-legged friend penetrated literally the whole world.
I dare to express my own opinion and add that the absolute majority of critics, unfortunately, did not fully appreciate the versatility and emotionality of this film, assigning it a rating of “good”. The picture is masterpiece, fascinating, impeccable from the point of view of emotional tension, original by design, at the same time containing all the cream of the dramatic plot of the classics, prompting reflection both during viewing and after it. This work was finally identified in my mind with the concept of film masterpieces, since such films are currently made extremely rarely. After all, for the general movement of cinema, it is necessary to look for a new vision of the problems and things that are relevant to us, it is advisable to dive into the essence of the picture not only through the prism of acting or the introduction of innovative technologies. It is worth paying attention to the skillful use of the good old techniques of emotional tension throughout the viewing, to pause for reflection, and most importantly - to lay certain foundations for the formation of spiritual values in a person, that is, to apply all that we love drama so much.
A few words about the story. First of all, it is necessary to note the plot from which the formation of the greatness of this film begins. The period of the First World War was very well chosen. It most vividly reflects the thorny path that only truly devoted friends such as Albert and his faithful war horse Joey can go through. The appeal of Albert, the change of dislocations and many other exciting events only add to the experience of the plot, making it more rich, but at the same time without unnecessary details. It is this feature that I note in the first place, because I appreciated the excellence of this film and bow to the greatness and creative diversity of Steven Spielberg - a person who annually gives us brilliant films, spiritual food for each of us.
It is also necessary to note the smooth transitions between episodes, which allow the viewer not to focus on remembering previous places, but to focus on worries about the fate of the protagonist and at the same time immerse themselves in reflections on humanity, friendship and devotion.
I was pleased with the acting skills. The game Jeremy Irvine, does not reach the Oscars yet, but, of course, this luminary of the film industry will still show itself in full. An unusually important role was given to supporting characters, especially the characters of Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch, because each of them contributed to maintaining the overall tension throughout the film. The sincere concern of the first and the unshakeability of the second were played flawlessly, which once again, in my opinion, proves the versatility of Tom and Benedict, whom many, because of their limitations, identify with Locky and Sherlock.
The film crew. Spielberg is a world-class talent, which is not news, but once again state the fact and express gratitude for an incredibly large number of great films. Diligent was also Jakush Kaminski - camera work at a height - I applaud standing up, because such an extraordinary manner of shooting is not found in an ordinary film. The work of the entire film crew turned out to be excellent: the editing, costumes, selection of scenery, and especially the soundtrack of John Williams made this film flawless, transferring a film with a good plot and a talented director into the category of film masterpieces, as noted above.
Such painstaking work should have been appreciated by the Academy Award, but, unfortunately, the most influential echelon of critics failed to imbue with the philosophical depth "War Horse". Well, I hope that over time the Academy will stop drowning masterpieces and begin to finally soberly award Oscars, because by drawing an analogy with the film "Beginning" by Chris Nolan, it becomes obvious that the human factor can make this award useless and its influence /b>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

“Friendship is an important thing, even when a friend is greeted. ?
A very important film that reminds us of our lesser brothers who trust us and serve with loyalty and devotion. The picture by all standards of drama with an animal, turned out to be quite heavy (naturally not a fairy tale for children), throughout the picture there is tension and excitement.
The film is very colorful and in the spirit of that time. Acting also leaves positive emotions. In fact, there is nothing to complain about in the picture. From the paintings about horses, I consider this picture worthy of being called “blockbuster” (in its sub-genre). Not because this is another brainchild of Spielberg (though not completely), but because this story absorbed a very rich, ironic, dramatic plot that effortlessly draws emotions.
I want to emphasize one point that although I have seen this picture for a long time, a lot of shots from the film pop up at the mention of it, because the picture really left its mark on the idea of horses (and what really intelligent animals they are – worthy of the respect of the same generals).
For those who are going to watch this movie, I wish you a good viewing, and for those who doubt to watch – do not doubt, this is a picture of the “flow of emotions”. I recommend it.
Steven Spielberg made another film, which in its essence is quite comparable to his touching hoaxes in the series “Amazing stories”. Remember the story with Kevin Costner, in which an artist on a plane with broken landing gear draws new ones, helping to land the plane? It was next to her that the “War Horse” would look perfect.
At the same time, Spielberg shot a large-scale touching film, which is quite suitable for family viewing, but includes such tearful and naive notes that it is almost a crime not to take a child to such a film. Just the same in touching he came out "Alien".
All this thinking about miracles without religious context sometimes surprises me. It's close to cynicism. There is such a self-confident director, coldly stacking chips and laughing - "the audience will definitely cry here." Although, on the other hand, what a cynic one must be to see vulgar moments in the sublime and touching love of a young man and a horse.
For the rest, the picture is perfect. There will be all the components of a typical Hollywood movie about horses: the growing up of a young man, tears, war, a decommissioned horse that they just want to shoot, battle scenes. The footage of the cavalry surprise attack on the garrison was filmed very effectively.
So, a beautiful film made without any obvious flaws. An interesting idea to show the First World War through the travels of a war horse. Good casting, combining David Thewlis and Emily Watson with Benedict Cumberbatch. However, this is not my movie. To my taste, everything turned out too sweet and sentimental. But I am sure that the film will find its faithful viewer for many, many years to come.

I think the film "War Horse" is similar to our good Soviet fairy tales. It's for both children and adults. The plot is simple, the boy wants to find and return his horse, with which they were separated due to the outbreak of war. This is a film about the relationship of a boy and a horse, about friendship, devotion, faith in the best.
In the film, most people come to the rescue. It may seem surprising that almost all people who meet on the way of the horse try to help him, treat him humanly. But that’s how it should be in real life. In many movies, a good ending is far-fetched and looks fake. "War Horse" ends well and rightly so, although the ending may seem incredible, it is absolutely appropriate.
I would advise everyone to watch this film, to remember what should be the relationship between people, between people and animals.
The First World War was one of the stupidest and most senseless wars in human history. In general, war is unnecessary and meaningless. It turns people into cruel creatures who think only about their survival in this difficult period.
However, even in war, there is room for real human feelings. It is only there that the true face of everyone is revealed.
In the movie "War Horse" war was only a backdrop to show true friendship and nobility. Spielberg has always been a master of his craft and this film is no exception.
Cynics say that the picture is designed to play on the feelings of people, squeeze out of them an extra tear. But then the question arises. Why create any works of art at all, so that they do not cause any emotions? After all, the real creator is inherently a skilled manipulator. He pulls the right strings and people feel pain or laugh. When what he created passed by, it means that he was not a true creator, but only a craftsman.
The film “War Horse” shows the story of growing up a foal named Joy, raising a farmer’s son and passing him through the crucible of war.
On the way through the war, Joy replaces many owners, from the kindest farmers to cruel soldiers. He meets a lot of people. From a shy foal, Joy turns into a real war horse. It survives where the best and purebred animals die. However, Joy does not cease to be kind and responsive.
Someone said that they showed stupid and unnecessary actions, that the Germans were shown to be cruel and heartless creatures. And in general, everything was created only to show drama and pathos, so when watching the main thing is to include a cynic.
The answer is that only people who live with cynicism can say so about this picture. For them, there are no positive emotions in life, the main thing is to mock someone else’s misfortune and, as they believe, empty experiences.
But for all the other viewers who are not stale in the soul and for whom there are still at least some concepts of kindness and responsiveness will be able to appreciate this picture.
They even tried to compare the picture with the “Weary Sun 2”. And they said, like Mikhalkov painted everything with specially surreal colors in order to show the absurdity of the war. Jesus, where were these people looking? What absurdity? What kind of surrealism? In the US-2 there was only Mikhalkov’s foolish self-admiration and an absolute lack of empathy for the main characters. And also a complete zero of historicity and any greatness.
In this case, through the adventures of Joy, the viewer sees the drama of the peoples, the French, the British, the Germans. There are no good or bad people among them. They're all in this war meat grinder. However, even enemy soldiers, on different sides of the barricades, unite in a single impulse to help a living creature in trouble and not even a person.
So if you are a hardened cynic, then you should not watch this picture, it is unlikely to squeeze out of you positive feelings and emotions. This is a film for people who know how to feel and empathize. In addition, this is a picture of the quirks of war, when the fates of people otherwise separated by thousands of kilometers can be closely intertwined. Those who believe will always find their dreams fulfilled. Of course, movies about animals always touch the human heart, but not everything is so deep.

Steven Spielberg’s films are usually good movies. Well, this movie was no exception. The horse, in fact, the one that the Combat (not without the help of editing) played better than any actor: look, movement - all this allows you to believe that there is not just a horse, there is a Man.
When you watch a movie like this, you know there's more to do and see. Such human feelings as the will to victory, the desire to survive, nobility, and in the end, friendship, loyalty, self-sacrifice are perfectly conveyed. Take a look and see for yourself!
However, it is worth warning, if you are a fan of incredible, fast-changing action, special effects on 10+, the masses do not know why running or screaming people, aliens, zombies, etc. - this film is most likely not for you.
Here are shown: the laconically developing story of the boy and his favorite horse (as well as a friend and the main character of the film), magnificent scenes of peaceful life, landscapes and combat operations, stunning emotions and feelings.
Finally, the verdict is to watch anyone who loves movies with meaning. A fascinating story with its beauty and humanity, which is so similar to the truth and in which you want to believe!
P.S. Have a handkerchief with you.
Steven Spielberg is no doubt a cult director, responsible for a considerable number of famous films in different genres - here and science fiction ("Special Opinion), and historical and military cinema (" Schindler's List, Empire of the Sun, Saving Private Ryan), and melodrama (" Flowers purple fields), and children's cinema (" Alien). In short, the director is very diverse and created many famous paintings. But in recent years, it is often said that Spielberg deflated, it is time for him to retire. And after "War of the Worlds" and the last "Indiana Jones" I thought so myself.
Therefore, I did not expect anything special from the "War Horse" - I thought there would be another soulless crafts for collecting money. However, in 2012, the film received 6 Oscar nominations, including a nomination for best film, which came as a surprise to me. And that’s what got me going.
The film did not disappoint me at all. More than that, he was above my expectations. First of all, it is worth noting the work of the operator and artists - the picture pleases the eye every minute of screen time. The rest of the crew also tried – the scenery looks authentic and in the course of the film is constantly changing, and the sound and music perform the task of additional emotional load by 100%. Actors, of course, do not capture stars from the sky, but their images are convincing. And it is impossible not to note the absence of major Hollywood stars here, which is only a plus, in my opinion, it is always pleasant to look at new faces.
As for the plot, it is in his direction that most negative reviews are turned, of which there are few. People scold War Horse for its naivety, simplicity and predictability. But in my personal opinion, such kind films are simply necessary, especially in our time. After all, “War Horse” without any fear can be shown to children – the film is not harmful and not cruel, and even instructive – like now you can count on your fingers.
At the same time, the plot here is not as simple as it may seem at first glance and has the necessary depth. The horse here is the personification of love, kindness, hope, and people, when they meet him, change and make different, sometimes insane, actions: two brothers, grandfather and granddaughter, two soldiers from warring sides - in each horse opens bright, kind feelings, on the occasion of war abandoned somewhere deep, but not locked there, but only crushed by negative emotions, fear, pain. No wonder in the course of the film, the horse is called magical and in no other way - it is really magical.
And such a horse lives in the soul of every person - if you believe, if you hope and love, he will find you. You just have to whistle.
This burly horse, whose name is Joey, has seen a lot in his life. His fate became a vivid reflection of a whole milestone in history and one has only to look into his eyes as the very truth of life will open before you, a truth that cannot be explained in a few words, a truth that must be felt from the heart and from the height of one’s own experience.
There is no more influential figure in modern popular cinematography than Steven Spielberg, who has long had time to prove his skills in creating large-budget blockbusters and films with a strong author’s accent. Each, almost every of his films causes genuine interest and excitement and this bowl did not pass and the historical and military drama “War Horse” in 2011, which became the adaptation of the novel of the same name in 1982 under the authorship of writer Michael Morpurgo. Performed in the manner and style of the paintings of the Golden Age of Hollywood, based on the directorial traditions of Victor Fleming, Ernst Lubitsch and George Cukor, this film tells the story of the loyalty of the horse to man, projecting the events of the First World War through the prism of the relationship between Albert and the horse Joey, whose image is generalized and symbolic. This is at the same time a film about the war, dispelling people and destroying everything human in them, and about the power of animals, the power not so much external as internal, forcing man to fight, the influence of animals on the fate of people.
War Horse is an aesthetically beautiful movie. The cameraman Janusz Kaminski shot the film simply magnificently, saturating the tape with a delightful visual component with stunning beauty landscapes full of rich colors, turning the film into a fictional canvas. The fighting scenes of the picture are staged with taste and skill, causing a truly huge emotional spectrum.
Equally great is the performance of the actors. Convincing in the role of Albert Jeremy Irvine; a high class of acting skills was also shown in the film by David Thewlis, Emily Watson, David Cross, Tom Hiddleston and Niels Arestrup and only for the sake of the amazing play of the actors, the film I want to review.
Composer John Williams wrote a monumental, beautiful and complete epic soundtrack for the film, perfectly weaving into the structure of the picture and creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere in it.
So, “War Horse” is a sincere and kind movie, a true example of high-quality and not aimed only at the box office of cinema, which I recommend to all viewers without exception.

A soulful movie, the first thought that arose after watching the film "War Horse", and then magnificent, amazing, just chic, and a sense of rest and joy, which so rarely gives us modern cinema. Only after watching, going to the film search to write this review and evaluate the film, I noticed that the director of this creation himself Steven Spielberg, a film professional, does not tire of pleasant surprise, the ability to create wonderful paintings in different genres of the film industry.
The story begins shortly before the First World War, when in the English county of Devon, the boy Albert enthusiastically observes the birth and subsequent development of a young stallion, a thoroughbred horseman. He lives with his parents on a farm. The family is not rich, are engaged in growing crops and barely cope with debts for property and constant drunkenness of the father. One day, the head of the family goes to auction to buy a horse for arable land and other work on the farm, but Ted (Albert’s father) is attracted by the same horse stallion, he is graceful and unbridled, but he is full of young power. Under the influence of alcohol and cheerful cheering of the crowd, as well as the desire to stand up for his honor and defeat the landlord taking part in the bidding for the horse, Ted raises the price higher and higher. Having bought a stallion for a lot of money, the already poor financial situation of the family is further aggravated, the horse is not intended for ploughing, which means that the threat of losing the entire farm is great. Albert calls the stallion Joey, trains him all day and promises his father that he will be able to tour and train the horse to work with the plow. To the surprise of the public and the landlord, foreshadowing the failure of his plans, Albert manages to prepare a field for sowing. But due to the evil fate of fate, heavy rain destroys all the landings, war begins, and Ted goes to the village to sell a horse to cope with debts. So Albert and Joey break up, but this is just the beginning of the story.
The film perfectly conveys the atmosphere of events that promotes empathy to the heroes, ranging from such a natural village, where one sees the worldly poor, but one feels real freedom filled with good moments, and ending with military actions, where there are definitely the horrors of death, ruin, cruelty and many other unpleasant things, but all this is in the foreground, and if you look at the second, you can see courage and valor, nobility and loyalty, because the common disaster unites.
As a result, because of the deep narrative, it is difficult to describe and immediately present in one review the presented work, it is definitely well shot, the actors coped perfectly with the roles, and looks without losing interest in what is happening. I even lost track of the time for the period of viewing, so did not want to break away from the events on the screen, and despite the military actions and the overall dramatic mood of the picture, the film can rightly be called kind. As I wrote above, this is a soulful movie, for which it is pleasant to relax, remember about such concepts as real friendship, loyalty and responsibility, and leave yourself a lot of useful thoughts for reflection, and therefore the f. "War Horse" deserves everyone's attention.
P.S. If you still want to know what assessment this creation deserves, then subjectively it is a masterpiece, although of course it tastes and colors.
