I wrote a review a long time ago, when I watched it for the first time in 2013, why I did not publish, I do not remember and after another viewing, I decided to publish it, although there were many of them before me.
What I saw after the Nth viewing was that the drama format cannot be shown. It would be interesting if, after all the twists and turns, they would live together. This is probably one of the few dramas where I empathize with both men and wish them success in their love, even for one woman. After watching two seasons of The Eighth Sense (Wachowski), which shows different types of relationships that have found harmony, albeit in non-standard families, it seems to me that anything is possible where there is love and understanding + devotion (C). Of course, given the views of Wie Mae Ri, this is unrealistic, and there was no Wachowski series at that time and it was difficult to imagine such a thing. But about the hero guys, could they live as three people loving Me Ri? This question is interesting to see, for example, in the framework of the film 18+.
Mary, Where Have You Been All Night? was released twice a week (November, December) 2010 on KBS2. General producer Jung Song Hyo, director Hong Seok Gu, screenwriters Ying Eun A, Go Bong Hwang.
I read a lot of negative reviews on the project and the first viewing began with fear of disappointment, but, like most of the dramas I liked, the criterion of “watching the first half an hour in one breath” here worked 100%.
Designed for a more adequate, adult audience, here mature thoughts embedded in the words “stupid” girl, are fundamental to the plot.
Very pleased with the unusual appearance and stunning performance of actress Moon Geun-yeon (Sister Cinderella, 2010, Drawing the Wind, 2008, Alice from Cheondam-dong, 2012). Her character is adequate, unlike most characters of such comedy projects. Vi Mae Ri is small, strong, without excessive romanticism and without hovering in the clouds, thinks very adultly, does not get confused in sensations, psychologically persistently copes with adversity, for example, when he counts to ten.
“What is more important in a relationship? Love, hope or devotion? "
Here is a very clear scenario of what kind of relationship you want out of life. Warm, durable, family or light, but shaky when any breeze destroys the senses. “I thought that in a relationship you don’t need words, that everything is clear without them,” says Seo Joon, actress Kim Hye Jin. In general, dialogue is the most interesting part of the project. This is sometimes ambiguity, and everyday wisdom and naivety, especially often voiced in the words of friends and girlfriends of heroes.
Comedy situations bring a special flavor to the relationship of the characters. “You want me so badly” (imagine that phrase when you hear two men talk, what would you think?)
“There’s something I want to do the most with you.”
- Is that something special?
- But it scares me a little and at the same time worries me.
- Aah?
- Do you want to do this with me tonight?
The drama is not only entertaining, it also teaches, for example, when Wie Mae Ri corrects his frightening memories, living the moment to get new sensations, or counting out loud, begins to look for positive facts and finds a way to live on. And all the time, there are moments of comparison, the action is the result. Different heroes, different views on life, but one desire, mutual love.
A man hero enters the world of a woman heroine and learns the world through new sensations for him, through those that she gives.
The creators were able to embody a deep meaning in the drama: family - marriage, love - loyalty / loyalty and at the same time, show the ambiguity, which was discussed earlier, as a hint of a threesome relationship.
Actor Jang Geun Suk plays once again musician Mu Gel, this character with indifference and disappointments, has a strong character, although Geun Suk is not used to playing selfish loners, for example, his role in "You are beautiful", and there is also a difficult relationship with his mother. Actor Kim Jae-wook, plays his rival and official husband Jun-in. I had a strange feeling that the original creators really wanted to put more weirdness into this character to make it clear the rejection of Meri, but Je Wook entered the role too harmoniously, so the hand of the writers did not rise to make it frightening. When the viewer learns his story, the puzzle of his actions takes its place in the relationship.
Actress Kim Hye-jin, as Seo-jung, plays an arrogant and selfish actress. At first, this is a rather repulsive character, but as the plot progresses, she changes. It is nice to see, the awareness of mistakes, and let them still worry her, but she strives to become better not for someone, but for herself.
The hotel theme is a mixture of hippie, rock and boho styles, however, the characters next to each other look harmonious, but I think many of their free style will push away. Dress and jeans, dressed at the same time, or the hero Geun Soka is constantly in leather bracelets and rings at the same time constantly complains that he is cold, but dressed in thin clothes, and I want to put on him a double to stop freezing.
They are still on the playlist.
Awards: 2010 KBS Drama Awards: for the popularity of Jang Geun-suk. The best pair of Jang Geun-suk with Moon Geun-yeon. I read something that is not felt between the heroes of chemistry, they say, and kisses so so. Nonsense. All normal, within the family viewing. Although on the other hand, the subtext of some scenes is more embarrassing than kissing.
Personal impressions. If I were a boy, I would marry Wie Mae Ri.
10 out of 10
For watching the TV series “Mary...”, I took on two reasons: a lot of positive reviews, and the participation of Moon Geun-yeon in the lead role, which I remember from such series as “Alice from Cheondam”, “Drawing Wind”.
I don’t like Mary, where have you been all night? Or rather, did not cause any positive emotions. Despite the fact that Korean comedies are laughed at exclusively by Koreans, there are good works, for example, “Protecting the Boss”, but this is not the case. This is not funny, but stupid.
I think it's normal. In the center of the plot is a simple girl, without any interest in money, clothes and appearance. On the horizon, as usual, there are two good guys from the casket. And even acquaintance, with one of the characters goes according to the standard scenario - easy accident. Also according to the template and conflict with the older generation and problems in the company. There is also a difference - there is no rich, insidious rival.
Everything is as usual, but why, in my opinion, did not a miracle happen? Don't know. Maybe it's just not mine. Maybe because it was too simple and illogical.
I didn't see the bright characters. I didn't see the emotions or the confrontation. The problems seemed far-fetched, the characters amorphous. If you remember “Alice from Cheongdam” again, then the heroine, performed by Moon Geun-yeon, is a strong-willed girl. The heroine "Mary ...", not even stupid. If you try to pick up words describing this miracle in feathers, then no censorship will miss. Despite the fact that the rest of the characters, without tears you can not look, most of all I was annoyed by the main character.
In conclusion, I want to say the following. If all Korean movies were placed in the range of “strong to simple”, then I would put this series in the border zone. This does not mean that the series is bad. I just didn't like it. I love Korean cinema for its emotionality, drama, warmth, etc. I like that without vulgarities, it is possible to show true love, make the viewer empathize with the heroes walking along a difficult, thorny path. So I'm sorry if anything's wrong.
To say that the drama did not like is to say nothing. I started watching because of Jang Geun Sook, only because of him and the musical framing and watching, and even though it does not leave a sense of lost time.
There are exactly three advantages to the drama.
One is the music, it's good here. In addition, I am very impressed that in Korean dramas, actors often perform songs themselves.
The second is Jang Geun-suk. As always, he is beautiful and convincing. His character attracts with his identity and independence, his loyalty to “combat comrades”. He leads an absolutely bohemian lifestyle, does not suffer from special ambitions (if not for the stupid mother, whom he sincerely loves and cares for). Mu Göll looks very whole and lively character.
And the third is costumes. They perfectly emphasize the characters of the heroes.
Mae Ri at first dresses like a clutch, in something as formless as her character.
Director - he looked especially stupid these clothes in the latest fashion - crummy pants and jackets with short sleeves, which, however, perfectly complemented the image of a weak-willed, stuffed father ... child. I have never felt like an adult.
But from the clothes of Mu Göll I received a separate ethical pleasure.
This is where the film’s merits end.
All the other characters, except Moo Gell, for me personally are absolutely unattractive, irritating in them the lack of intelligence and logic of behavior. I can not even choose who here to award the first place – the main character, her father, or the director.
Moreover, there are no complaints about the acting, Me Ri very convincingly played an uneducated, undeveloped girl without the slightest glimmer of mind in her eyes, who declares that she likes to read and learn, but shows interest not in books, but exclusively in watching dramas. Lives at the level of reflexes, not thoughts. Sluggish and uninitiative, can neither express nor even defend their point of view. The director in this regard makes her a great couple (although he periodically wanted to regret, but especially did not work). And the father of Me Ri, who thinks only about his well-being, hiding behind the care of his daughter, also does not cause sympathy or respect.
I'm surprised this drama could get so many great reviews.
Mae Ri is an ordinary naive girl, as it should be in Korea, taking care of her loved ones and, if possible, unquestioningly obeying her father. But like everyone else, she has her own opinions and principles. Throughout the series, she grows spiritually and physically, discovers a woman, slowly but surely begins to understand what love is. Sweet, humble and simple-minded. Open to everything new and interesting.
Mu Göl is a purposeful musician, a master of his craft externally, however, a small abandoned boy who frankly lacks warmth, affection and understanding. As a result, he stubbornly tries to reject all attempts to become someone close to him. However, as well as Mae Ri, over time begins to “thaw” & #39; and trust people.
The director is someone I feel sorry for throughout the film. He does not feel like a son, but he is constantly obliged to almost grovel before his father. Several times in the series he repeats that his father is God. A man who had no childhood, no family as such. And yet, he has his dreams and desires. Until the very end of the series, this guy is driven more by sports interest, a certain competitive spirit, than feelings and common sense. In the end, his act is shocking. Cancel the wedding, moreover, issue divorce papers with the father and guests - that's the core and willpower!!! It is an act worthy of admiration.
I will not write about the other heroes, so as not to tell the whole drama. Overall, the impression is good. I would love to review it again and I recommend the same!!
It is such a dialogue that occurs in one of the first series between the main characters: freedom-loving musician Kang Mu-Gel and the unhappy girl Mary, whom her father wants to marry without her consent, which formed the basis of the storyline of the drama.
Mary dreams of being met by her mother in the evening, not suffering because of her father’s financial situation, and attending school without worrying about tuition fees, and Mu Gel wants to live a life doing what she loves. The viewer can observe the choices made by the characters, love or calculation, freedom or money, trust or betrayal.
The drama is cute, touching, sometimes funny, even absurd, especially interesting to watch how the relationship between the main characters develops.
Separately, it is worth noting the musical accompaniment, it is above all praise. As in many Korean TV series, some of the songs are performed by the actors themselves. Jang Geun-seok managed to convey the freedom-loving and original style of the indie band, which made the drama even more memorable.
There are a lot of reviews on this mini-series, and even positive ones. And this is weird. Maybe I'm too picky, but that's the drama I wanted to turn off and not turn on anymore. This is one of the series in which you need to watch the mask of 4-5 first series and 2-3 last, in general excluding all seridina.
First, there are too many stupid things, how can you not tell your father that you do not want to get married?
Second, maybe I don't understand Korean marriage registration, but shouldn't people getting married apply for it? Why does someone’s father do this, and also receives a certificate and marriage?
Third, a successful director of a drama company, why is he still so dependent on his father? Is he afraid to stay at the bottom with his money and work? Isn't that stupid?
You can find more of these things...
V. Mary is a strange girl, acting like a child at 24, like a 15-year-old.
Her father fled all his life from responsibility and his debts, the daughter was brought up by herself (surprisingly why she still behaves like a teenager), and still has the right to consider herself an authority and look for a husband for her daughter?
The director is a weak-willed person, he can be understood in everything except marriage. An adult man can find a bride to his liking.
The father of the director generally pissed me off, thinks if he loved Mary's mother and she did not get him, so will get the daughter-in-law of the beloved?
And of course, Mu Göl is the only adequate person in the film, lives his own life, although he drinks alcohol often, but nevertheless his character and actions lend themselves to logic.
The whole series is built on these characters, with no particular fun in the middle. If the series is cut by 40-60%, it will only get better. I’m not going to underestimate it too much, so:
6 out of 10
This drama can be safely attributed to banal. Absolutely predictable plot, quite typical for drama characters, it is immediately clear how it all ends.
However, despite the fact that for 16 episodes there were no plot twists, in fact there was practically no development, the drama looks easy.
I don’t want to offend anyone’s feelings, but I just can’t help expressing my attitude to the shown love square. So, before us, Me Ri is a spineless girl, a pumpkin-like face, dresses worse than homeless people and in her 24 years did not even graduate from school! But that’s the fault of her very bad dad. Mu Gel – I like Jang Geun Suk, but he does not look like a guy, especially with a normal orientation, and in this drama with this hairstyle and clothes, well, just a girl. The director is an amorphous spineless and, yes, also not like a guy, the son of a rich dad, his place in this square is controversial (sometimes I thought that Mu Gel attracted him much more than Me Ri, although there is nothing surprising, and in general, if they really made an unconventional couple at the end of the series, it would fit into the plot). And the fourth character is an ill-mannered actress-hysterical (I do not remember her name) her place in this square is not disclosed at all, at first of the series I thought that the Director liked her and they will be together, but it did not work out.
The drama is not bad, but it does not affect, you will not laugh or cry, just look and forget.

Interesting, easy series with meaning. I like the idea that love cannot exist without devotion, faith and understanding. Although the plot is a little unrealistic, but the fact that love should be defended to the end and believe in a loved one is very important. This is very well shown in the series. The actors were selected very successfully: simple Me Ri and Mu Göl, who cares about the light bulb.
The choice between love and money is also important. I am glad that the main character makes his choice without thinking. It is interesting to see how love can change a person. In general, I want to say that after watching, I changed some views on life. I think it's for the best.
This is my 2nd TV series with Moon Geun Yeon and Zhang Geun Suk, I remember these actors on such dramas as "You're Beautiful!" and "Drawing Wind".
I think that the series is not bad, but there are also irritable moments and behavior in the series, especially the fact that the main character Wie Me Ri in her 24 is so innocent, namely:
1. lives with a guy and roars that he kissed her (her first kiss).
2. necessarily the appearance of someone's son or daughter of some acquaintances and they must marry the main hero.
3. Wie Me Ri’s father is a real egotist and almost does not care about his daughter, which can be understood from the first series. Forcelessly without demand, he marries his daughter to the son of a friend whom he has not seen for 20 years, in exchange for paying debts.
4. The son of a friend of his father is a real spineless weakling who listens unquestioningly to his father in his 25+ years. Listening to adults is commendable, but not like a dog.
There is chaos here, especially in Me Ri’s feelings. She loves Moo Göl, but also cannot or does not want to offend the “Director”, whom she treats more like a friend and nothing more.
I recommend the series to romantics and lovers of drama, because the drama itself succeeded, despite the irritable moments of the series described above.
After the first series, absolutely everything begins to piss off in the drama, except the main character.
Wee Mae Ri - for her only 2 epithets - klusch and sheep. The man is 24 years old, and she only hears: “Dad, don’t,” “Dad, please,” “Dad, why are you hitting me, it hurts,” “Dad, did you eat?”
Her father is difficult to describe censorship. A man who in the face of a sobbing daughter who loves a musician yells that the most important thing for him is her happiness, so she must marry a rich man she knows. He beats her, locks her in a room and all this with the words about her happiness.
The director is a miserable creature. No matter how much the children are morally dependent on their parents (he thinks his father is God), it is a shame to ruin the life of a girl who does not love you just because otherwise your father will take all the money from you. Pack your things and go build a career on your own, without attaching yourself to your father like a leech.
Kang Moo Göl (the main character) - only on him and the film is kept, it is charming, as always.
Resume: If you cut the film by 30-40%, it becomes watchable. It's a complete disappointment. There's anger left over.
Stability and confidence in the future or fireworks events and life on a volcano?
My love is only for you as long as I love you.
- And until what?
Behind a rather unusual name hides a cute, funny story about a naive girl who by chance found herself between two fires. This story, along with humor and romance, is also filled with a fair number of ridiculous situations that sometimes make what happens on the screen simply absurd and banal. But! There is something about it!
First, all the characters of the drama are amazingly played - it is immediately clear who is who and for what.
Rocker Kang Moo Gel has never been serious and responsible, he is a free bird with no plans for the future. Maybe all day just playing guitar and drinking. He does not believe in anyone and is not attached to anyone. From the family - only a bad mother who comes to him only when she has problems with a man or no money. Dates girls no more than a month and changes them like gloves. There are only two things in his life that he's always true to - music and his band, that's all. And then one day he is hit by a car, behind the wheel of which Mae Ri...
The game (as well as everything that Geun-Suk takes on) is just amazing! You look at Moo Gel and you realize that this is how he should be. You can’t add or add anything, otherwise it won’t be the same!
Director Jung-in is the exact opposite. Serious, strict, responsible. Workaholic to the bone. He respects his father and always does what he asks. One day his father asked him to marry him. And not just to marry, but to Mae Ri, the daughter of his longtime friend.
Mae Ri always wanted to marry for love. Naive and inexperienced, modest and quiet, she had never fallen in love. And then suddenly this news: Dad decided to marry her to a complete stranger! What's up? She runs away from home and offers Mu Gel a small deal. Which tied them all up for 100 days.
Mae Ri's character is a charmer! So stupid and wise at the same time. Infinitely kind and loyal.
A bunch of absurd situations and a bunch of lies. How's this gonna work out? Someone will say that this story with a happy ending, someone will be unhappy. It has an open end for me.
I recommend it to fans of Korean dramas and romance, fans of musical dramas and, of course, fans of the magnificent Jang Geun-suk.
