Politically Correct Archaeology or the Tennyson Code To be honest, I even liked the first series, because, as it seemed to me, for the first time decided to show the work of real archaeologists, especially, there plays the respected Hugh Bonneville (by the way, he is the only one who did not disappoint to the end, convinced that he can play not only the role of counts, captains and cleaners).
However, the further into the forest, the thicker the Templars, and the series slid into a set of cliches (the Templars – Joan of Arc – King Arthur, etc.), a world behind-the-scenes government, conspiracy theories, mystical artifacts that determine the fate of the planet (did you not know that the US created the Negroes with Excalibur?), nauseating political correctness (see above), and incessant hysterical reflections of Glavheroini. Julie Graham again demonstrates the depth of her talent, convincingly portraying a completely insane hysteria (as if she did not convince us of this in Survivors).
A good idea was fused in the most inept way.
The absolute lack of professionalism of archaeologists (and they like to accuse other groups of this very unprofessionalism) makes you clutch your head. We work without gloves, finding something joyfully pull out and wave, calling others, without fixing the place of finding, what is the division of the territory into squares and applying the grid they also do not know - you can continue indefinitely.
Sometimes minor characters please (" You cannot judge people from the past according to the laws of our time). Another time, a different morality" or "I had to repent for my country from childhood, and until I grew up I didn't even understand why"), but all this sinks like a fly in jam in the dreary incessant reflection of our cool archaeologist.
As for purely historical blunders, they are enough. For example, yes, and I like Charpentier’s theory that Joan of Arc is a creation of the Templars, but even Charpentier himself could not make a convincing argument in its defense, and here it is presented as the ultimate truth. And the English complexes in relation to Rome is a topic of separate conversation.
In general, watch the British documentary series “Meetings with ancestors”. Smarter, stronger and more interesting.
For Bonneville, Tobias Menzes in the last series and the very first series:
