A devoted son, a treacherous stepmother and, above all, a clever wife named Saraswati! For two days I watched 3 films Anila Kapoor (as it covered me), and yesterday I watched "Son", and it turns out that I did not write a review (although I thought I wrote). I repent, beat my head against the wall and correct myself quickly. To watch Anila in this film is a complete pleasure, you can not break away from him, and if he is still paired with Madhuri, it is generally incomparable pleasure. One of the best couples in Bollywood.
When watching and mocked a lot, especially at the character Anupam Kher in the role of an evil and cunning uncle. He looked truly comical, in dhoti, with disheveled hair and rabbit teeth (two front teeth sticking out front of him). Another funny moment, when after the wedding Raju and Sarasvati went to a hut near the fields where Raju and other peasants worked, as she seduced him there. I was also very happy in the most dramatic moments. The most touching episode, when little Raju tried to call God to talk to his mother, I always have tears at this moment. And after drinking Raju milk with saffron and talking with my mother, I even stopped watching to wipe away tears, otherwise it is impossible to look.
"Son" is one of the highest grossing films of the time in India. This is a comedy melodrama and the most popular film. It has as many as ten popular songs. Many call it a musical comedy melodrama.
I went online to read about the film on other resources, and found information that I had never known before. It turns out that the plot of this film is taken from the novel by the writer B. Puttaswamaya, who wrote in the Kannada language. And adapted for the screenplay by Mallamman Pavada. And the first film based on this story was made in 1955, in Telugu. It turns out that about ten films were shot on this story, - in Telugu in 1955, in Tamil in 1956, even in Hindi in 1960, directed by T. Prakash Rao, (although I did not see such a film, and I did not even know about it), in Kannada in 1969, in Bengali in 1975, once again in Hindi in 1981, directed by Pramod Chakravarty (I did not see it either, although it is called "Jioti", with Gitendra and in the main role of Kamil, then in the film, and then /b> he will be shot there again, >> in the film, >>>>>>>>>>>>> And as it turned out, after this film, there were even later versions of this melodramatic story - in 1993, in Telugu, and in Kannada, and in 1998 in Oria. Oh, it turns out. So many versions of the same story, and I've only watched one version ever, with Anil Kapoor.
The Son (1992) is one of the greatest works of Indra Kumar. In fact, he made several box office films, but "Son" became very popular due to his music and melodrama, especially in the plot. This is an attractive story in which the three main characters Raju - the stepson Lakshmi (Anil Kapoor), Saraswati - the wife Raju (Madhuri Dikshit), and LakshmiA stepmuha - the stepmother of Rajah/bIraj/iIraj/i>. But he sees only his beloved mother in her and literally prays for her. He thinks his mother is above everything. But his stepmother was not an honest woman married to his father, just because of his wealth. She specifically tamed Raj to manage him as she wanted, and so that all his wealth, when he was 25 years old, would go to her and her stupid brother (Anupam Kher). But soon Raju marries Sarasvati, a young and intelligent woman who, unlike her faithful and innocent husband, soon learns the true character of her mother-in-law and vows to destroy her plans and open Raju's eyes to his adored mother. Here Sarasvati is the savior. Watching them confront their mother-in-law is a real pleasure. What looks they looked at each other, as if the mother-in-law wanted to incinerate the daughter-in-law with a look, and the daughter-in-law with a challenge answered the mother-in-law. It’s an interesting way to bring everyone to clean water.
Anil Kapoor is brilliant as such a character, a simple and naive guy who has been banned from studying since childhood, and he is very innocent as a child. And in my memory, this is the only film of Anila, where he walked from beginning to end in completely national Indian clothes - dhoti, kurta, tilak on his forehead (although sometimes he wore a shirt and jacket, but there were dhoti at the bottom).
Aruna Irani is simply outstanding, in the role of the insidious Lakshmi, and very convincing, and this gray strand of her right in the middle is very impressive. She got such roles more than once in those years, and she shone in them.
However, "Son" is clearly a film Madhuri Dixit. She is stunning, in the role Sarasvati, a courageous and reasonable woman who is not afraid to fight with everyone for justice, and does it. Her expressive eyes, energy, smart attitude to everyone, determination, incendiary dance numbers and general personality - all this makes her heroic.
Overall, this Hindi version is not for everyone, but the film is great. He is remembered primarily for his music and actors, especially Madhuri, and it is easy to see why. This film could easily be called "Daughter-in-law", after her heroine.
"Son" is also a family drama, and a very melodramatic film. Very chic acting, popular and attractive background music and popular songs, good cinematography, and attractive and family history.
In any case, I recommend watching this version. The film is a worthy product of its time, and these days many may seem irrelevant and outdated. But I think this film is worth watching, because the relationship between parents and children is always relevant. And I still think this is one of the best works of Indra Kumar.
