"A little boy found a machine gun - nobody lives in the village anymore." Although the Noir films were popular in Hollywood in the 40s and 50s, and The Story of a Crime was shot much later, it turned out to be a pretty vivid example of this genre. Here, as it should be, in such films, “dark-dark” people wrap up their “dark-dark” affairs in “dark-dark” places, without removing “dark-dark” glasses and “dark-dark” gloves.
One of the main ideas of the film was taken from the novel by James H. Chase "All the world in the pocket", (long before the Soviet "Mirage"). Of course, according to the laws of the genre, a woman should intervene in men's affairs, performed the role that Chieko Matsubara played (later in Takeshi Kitano's "Dolls").
The overall impression of the film remains good. This is on the one hand a whole, with a gradually untwisted plot, a criminal story, and on the other hand a little ironic, where the actors clearly overplay to even more clearly manifest the contrast between the real world and “noir”.
