I have always been your daughter and never complained! ?
"Gideon's Daughter" is the second film, directed in 2005 by Stephen Polyakoff (he will be discussed a little later), from a television production, where in both the link was the hero of Robert Lindsay named William Snat. In the first film, Friends and Crocodiles, he tells the story of his friend, a Nabob aristocrat, who lost everything overnight because of his rather complex character and special principles. But in "Gideon's Daughter" William Snat invites a typist, who dictates the story of an episode of the life of another of his friends - a talented PR man who created a name and fortune in this trade, Gideon Warner. However, neither a popular and authoritative name in their circles, nor the state of a wealthy dandy did not create a sense of happiness for Gideon. And as promised a little about the director of “Daughter of Gideon” Stephen Polyakoff: judging by his name, but it is easy to guess that he has roots close to us and this will be the right decision. In general, you can read about the Polakoff family - about his ancestors and his brother, there will be some very, very interesting facts.
So, now let’s stop a little more about the plot of “Gideon’s Daughters”, and that preview posted on the page of the film in the KP is somewhat, say, dry. Gideon Warner really feels great in the pool of cinematic dreams and even more stars turn to him for advice or with a request to become his protégé just to get the desired role. Gideon does not refuse anyone, but it is obvious that he does it with great reluctance. For too long, Gideon lived for others and because of this lost touch with her daughter, who is striking vocal data (a song about her father, sung by actress Emily Blunt directly breaks into tears), and she was going to leave her hometown and try her hand far from home. Gideon clearly realizes that he is bitter to lose his daughter, but at the same time realizes that there is nothing he can do: his daughter inherited his stubborn character. Meanwhile, Gideon has an affair with a pleasant woman named Stella, who is far from the cinema bohemian, which is why she became so attractive to Gideon: now nothing human is alien to him.
"Gideon's Daughter" is more of a story about many of us. Do not take into account that Gideon Warner is quite a wealthy man, even in years. We, thank God, also do not starve, but here is some alienation from children (or vice versa - from parents) feel, and when the period comes that strongly wants to catch up, it turns out that time cannot be reversed. It is insulting, annoying and bitter for us, but still it is always necessary to try to establish relationships, if they already require it, one should not live in resentment against each other. If we consider the storyline with the novel of Gideon and Stella, then here everything is clear: the age of love is not a hindrance. And how paradoxical it is, but such deep thoughts are caused by a television film that would not go under any ketchup in theaters, but the experience and authority of Stephen Polyakoff (he was not only the director, but also single-handedly wrote the script for his film), as well as good acting allowed “Daughter of Gideon” to collect several respected awards and nominations at film awards.
And when it comes to actors, you have to talk about them. I’ll start with Bill Nighy, who played, as you understand, Gideon Warner and received two awards for his work: Golden Globes and Sputnik. He fit into the image and conveyed it as we, the audience, needed it. From his words and actions, I could see how much he wanted change. In general, this is why Bill Nighy is considered one of the best British actors who can convey the mentality of his people (along with Michael Kane and Colin Firth), even if a little bit about stereotyping. Gideon's daughter, as mentioned above, played Emily Blunt. This was the fifth full-length film for the future world star and, I must say, she was struck not only by vocal data, but also by the fact that she deftly used every moment provided in the film to convey her image and his drama, and she has not so much time in the frame, her role is largely secondary. For this, Blunt received her Golden Globe. And Miranda Richardson perfectly played, embodying the image of Stella. Pleasant in all respects, the heroine, who was sensually conveyed by the actress. Lately, I’ve become increasingly convinced that Richardson is one of the most underrated actresses of her generation. And there is in “Gideon’s Daughter” the future Bane from “The Dark Knight: The Revival of the Legend” and the rejuvenated Max from “Mad Max: Fury Road”, that is, actor Tom Hardy, but his role is so insignificant that you should not dwell on it.
The verdict for all this fan fiction is the assertion that “Gideon’s Daughter” and a television project, but still I do not regret watching it.

Impressions: A bit of a strange movie, which also needs to be watched in a certain mood. I was not particularly close to the topic of busy parents and their sad single children, but here this line is somehow surprisingly well served, weaving into the overall narrative and not interfering with the general mood. Gideon loves his daughter madly, and he often doesn’t realize how much. And not that they do not develop a relationship ... just she is a teenager, she wants to be independent, and even resented by her father for all his mistakes, which in her teenage brain are also multiplied several times. He doesn’t even know which way to approach her. And he understands that in their not quite simple relationship he is also very guilty, but what now to do? When doesn't she even want to listen? And then it turns out that both sides are wrong ... but the fault of one side is in the past and the other in the present. And the only way out is to wait for the side that is blind to see.
The film left a pretty pleasant impression, a warm feeling on the soul ... yet happy endings work wonders, I think! The line with Gideon’s love, by the way, also came out very well. A tired woman who has suffered a terrible loss, who still blames herself, works at night so as not to suffer nightmares ... and she has the power to interest a tired person like Gideon, has the ability to surprise, drive to strange places, amaze him with her ease, when the pain inside still does not heal to the end. Stella is amazing, actually... and I think in the end, with Gideon’s help, she’ll really be able to survive that loss, start over with it... and move forward.
I didn’t expect anything special from this film, but it looks easy, although sometimes some episodes are sad. But in some amazing way, any sadness here turns to light, which is logical, and leads us to a good ending. Because before anyone dies, it's not too late to change and fix what seemed to be broken forever. You just need to make an effort... and take a step towards the other person.
Quote: "Examinations never end." Because when your kids have exams, it's even scarier.
Actors: I really liked Richardson here. I love her at all, but I’ve never seen her in this way before, and she really conveyed the character very well. I think really, the brightest and most empathetic character. Well, Blunt plays just a teenager, nothing special was required from her here, only to look at her father with discontent and contempt, that she managed to quite herself at the "globe". But Nyi does not cease to amaze... because he plays mostly the same characters, but adds some barely noticeable shade, and the character becomes special, not like the others. I don’t know how he does it, but despite the fact that his characters are constantly weak in spirit, they somehow overdo themselves, and eventually make the necessary decision ... so let Nahi forever play the likes of Gideon, who will differ from each other only a little, but he ... so good in this role.
For the first time I see the name of the director – Stephen Polyakoff. I don’t know about the rest of the films, but here he somehow strangely paid attention to details that do not carry much meaning... although, perhaps, this is his signature gesture, who knows. The film came out a little strange, not like many modern movies ... and somehow managed to touch a living thing.
A sad story with an unusual composition. It is very interesting to watch the working days of the genius of PR-business - you see large-scale show projects as if from the inside out, or so: a kitchen where a mass media product is cooked. But this theme in the film is clearly secondary, auxiliary.
The picture is primarily about relationships, about feelings, about priorities - false and real, about choices. A story filled with the sadness of irreversibility and yet giving hope for the inevitability of a future that is by default bright.

I have always been your daughter and never complained.
In this review, many times I want to say thank you, for the many things that satisfied me when watching a very powerful British cinema.
Thank you for having such a great actor Bill Nighy, in principle, because of him I started watching this unknown film “Gideon’s Daughter”. Bill Nighy created a separate atmosphere in the film, who will be able to walk just like he walks with an empty and lost look, who, no matter how he can play such cool all of himself men, I sometimes have a feeling in my head that he was born in a jacket, how he looks, I refuse to look at him in other clothes!
Thank you for the fact that there is British cinema, if I began to throw loud words, then in my opinion, British cinema is not inferior to American competitors, of course, the release of films is less extensive, but this is the whole juice, you rarely find several bad British films in one year, they differ in quality, unlike America. Also, Britain gave us a lot of great directors, such as Boyle, Curtis, Mendes, Scott and further on the list.
Thank you for still making such a soulful movie, which is made in my opinion primarily for the audience, and not in order to raise money again. A film that touches your heart is also glad that the film is not quite standard, for many the film stands out from others.
The film focuses on the relationship between father and daughter. And also to reassess your priorities. As the song says, “Love for you comes instead of money when you need it more than you need it.” Money comes, taking away health, just when there is nowhere to go. It is true that everything comes to the wrong place, because this is life, and it is very difficult to capture this moment in which you need to catch fate by the horns and do everything right, and not as the situation requires. For most of us, the gap between “Oh, I dream about the future” and “Ah, it’s late, it’s all in the past” is so infinitesimal that it’s impossible to squeeze into it. Our main character is a famous man, takes the post of head of a PR agency. A lot of celebrities come to consult with him, to hear advice or just to tell their global ideas. In the same period, his company has the chance to sign the biggest contract in their history. But this is not at all interesting to Gideon, his head is occupied by his daughter, who holds a grudge against her father and told him about his nearest departure to South America, to Colombia, as Gideon himself put it, this is the most dangerous country in the world.
In my opinion, the whole quintessence of the film consists in a couple of minute songs that Gideon’s daughter performs at her prom.
The song is called "Dad":
I look out the window at you when you walk with her there.
I don't want to know which one! I can't stop you stroking your hair.
I don’t need to see you worrying when you sneak out of your house at night.
I don't need to know what happened when you use it back in daylight.
No need to catch you with them, your voice is full of fun.
And when you whisper your excuses, oh my dad, so shy.
"Mon Sheri" Dad, "Mon Sheri" Dad
I don't want your love declarations, I want your good night wishes.
I don't need your caresses, I need a strong hug.
I just want you to be ready that my voice will no longer ring.
And that there will be no more letters, you should hear this trifle.
I need you to remember that you never blushed for me.
I have always been your daughter and never complained.
I have always been your daughter and never complained.
I need you to remember that you never blushed for me. I was always your daughter, and I never complained.
Yet European cinema is strikingly different from the production of films from other countries of the world and stands on a separate stage of cinematic creativity. It is always in a special place of honor for me. Hollywood, the most sensitive money, has repeatedly remakes of beautiful European films.
The British drama "Gideon's Daughter" directed by Stephen Polakoff, presented on October 21, 2005 at the Hampton International Film Festival (USA), deserves its own positive assessment. Immediately make a reservation that in 2007 for the performance of the main role, Bill Nighy was awarded the Golden Globe statuette as “Best Actor of a Mini-Series or Film on TV”, and “Best Supporting Actress of a Mini-Series or Film on TV” was recognized by Emily Blunt. It is difficult to argue with this assessment, since their work was done magnificently and well deserved. As well as Miranda Richardson’s performance, which has two awards and 5 Golden Globe nominations (and this is not the entire track record of various nominations in her artistic activity), no less beautiful. However, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, for reasons unknown to me, did not consider it necessary to mention it. In my opinion, this is not objective.
The TV movie Gideon’s Daughter is made leisurely and seriously about the difficult, but such an ordinary relationship between a father and his daughter, and not only between them. So for some reason it happens that parents age, their children grow up and enter independent adulthood, which is certainly a big event for every family. “When they go to university, it’s like death, a small death.” There is a quite rhetorical question that we ask ourselves more than once: Is it worth the life spent on work, other experiences, the fact that children at that time were without our attention and parental warmth? How many happy hours did your family spend together? After all, on the one hand, everything is done, as a rule, for the well-being of the family and the bright future of the growing children (“there is always something in the head that makes you worry about them”), on the other – did they need such a future? Do they need that future when they lack parental love in the present? On the other side of the scale lies the personal life of the parents, with their desires and responsibilities. Aren't parents entitled to it? In contrast to youthful maximalism and childish resentment, there is the experience and wisdom of fathers and mothers. But both of them make mistakes. Both of them need love. You need to find a balance and come to harmony with yourself and your loved ones. Is that what happiness is?
Such a “French surprise” about the relationship between fathers and children was presented to the audience by Stephen Polyakoff. A film filled with beautiful music and its atmosphere, you need not only to watch, but also listen to hear and look inside yourself. The topic, repeatedly raised since the time of the classics, is relevant to this day. The ending of this story, though predictable, but executed magnificently. A very soulful, subtle and at the same time profound film that makes us think once again - how fair we are to our parents, how fair we are to our children, and how fair we are to ourselves.
- For the sake of interest, what did you want to say with this song? Why did you choose this topic?
- Just a sad story. About love.
And then life confronts him with a married couple, however, already separated, the father in which is completely mad with grief after the death of his only son. Gideon is situationally close to the boy’s mother Stella (Miranda Richardson), and then realizes that he is very attracted to this woman, who is very difficult, but in her own way, experiencing loss without losing empathy towards others. The film is also quite restrained, with a rather unexpected end. Great acting, two of which – B. Nyi and E. Blunt – were awarded the Golden Globe, and I am very sorry that this award was passed by Miranda Richardson, whose role is the most dramatic of all and at the same time beautifully played. A little unfortunate, in my opinion, the method used by the director, since the absence of the narrator in the situations shown in the film casts doubt on his dedication to all the details, since he apparently knew this from the words of the main character, and sometimes looks a bit illustrative, but this is already if you pick on it. 7 out of 10 Original
