How Pappi Met the Dumb The famous New York playwright (and what other playwrights are in New York?) with the call sign “Puppie” married the doctor Jane. But the doctor ended up with a joke in her head. She did not want to live in the same apartment with her betrothed, and rented a few floors above another apartment, but only for herself. Justification: They have different work schedules. Well, then began a series of misunderstandings that put the marriage of the newlyweds on the brink of divorce.
William Seiter has a couple of good comedies behind his sinus, but in general, it was a middle-hand director who did not leave something memorable in his memory. But “Love Date” in his list of filmography and does give the epithet “shameful creation”. A brainless and tasteless sitcom with an idiotic plot and an even more incompetent play of the leading acting couple is the most neutral thing to say about this tedious picture. But surprisingly, cinema, due to its apolitical nature, had a very long rolling history. During the war, it was played in neutral countries of Europe, and then it hit the screens of defeated Germany and Japan.
In terms of actors, I have already said everything above. 42-year-old Charles Bouillet was in Hollywood favor and in this film was listed, of course, the No. 1 star, but played his role extremely disgusting. His wife-girlfriend here played already actively forgotten in the States Margaret Sullivan. The only decent role she played in the picture of Frank Borzega “Three comrades”, for which she was even nominated for the “Oscar”, and then her Hollywood fairy tale was rapidly deflated and by 1941 the actress was almost on the sidelines of the actor’s party. Movies like this only exacerbated her downfall.
But pay attention to the fatal tragedy of the cast of this film. Charles Bouillet’s son will be shot dead at 21, and Margaret Sullivan’s daughter will also die at 21, only from a drug overdose. Moreover, the next child Sullivan will also commit suicide at the age of 66, only the actress will not miss it, as she will die from a large dose of barbiturates at 50 years old. Charles Bouillet himself will commit suicide on the second day after the death of his wife, however, it will happen in a respectable 78 years. And finally, the not-so-famous actress Rita Johnson – here she plays a schismatic of family ties – will also die very early at 52. A few years later, under mysterious circumstances, her head will be scratched, although officially she will claim that she “fell a hair dryer” on her head. Since then, her acting career will almost end, then a friendship with alcohol will begin, which will make her a client of the other world at such an early age.
Comedy with the neck is not even “bad”, but “terrible”. Terrible in everything from plot to execution.
