Snowy, but not at all gentle. This film came across quite by accident, when I watched the list of actors of the previous horror film I watched on a similar theme, which is “Exist”. There I really liked one actress, Denis Williamson, and I decided to look at the list of paintings with her participation. Unfortunately, she does not have much work as an actress, especially in leading roles, but I was interested in the film Boggy Creek, where she played a secondary role. Despite this, the description of the film interested me, especially since I have always loved horror.
The plot is as standard as possible - a group of young people come to a hut, which is located in the wilderness, and encounter a monster there. I didn’t see any unusual plot features here, except that the topic of the abduction of women by Bigfoot here is revealed a little more than in a very similar film Willow Creek. But here are the shortcomings of the plot. For example, it is not clear why it was to show a couple of police officers who investigated terrible murders, and flashed on the screen at once in several scenes. If you put them in the script, show them what happened to them: did they run into a monster or not? It is not clear the fate of the neighbor of the main character, the one who always walked with a gun. Closer to the denouement, there was a moment in which he, with his appearance, kind of had to somehow influence the plot, but in the end it is not clear what happened to him next.
Of the minuses, I will note a very long tie. Yes, we are shown several murder scenes, but all of them are not related to the top five characters. The action with their participation begins only after an hour of screen time, and this is not an exaggeration. Yes, the last half an hour to get bored exactly do not give, but for an hour before that, their story develops too smoothly.
The heroes themselves, by the way, turned out to be very alive. And it is not in their acting skills (it is quite good here, but nothing outstanding), but in the characters themselves. Each of them is individual, and looks like a colorful character, not as an extra, whose death no one will notice - this is often found in films, especially in horror films, but this picture is clearly not the case. What’s really hurtful to me is that the actress I paid attention to this movie for was less than a minute of screen time. It was very good, by the way.
About the ending. It is quite dynamic and expected. The only thing here is that there's a little plot twist that explains why this monster is so hard to catch and why it kidnaps so many girls. In principle, nothing unexpected, but a pleasant addition to the plot.
The work of operators is difficult to assess. Because in various scenes that don’t involve the characters directly, that is, in moments with secondary characters, the camera moves too twitchy. I even got dizzy for a while. But the moments with the main characters look great. Especially well turned out colorful views of nature. The lake and the forest look beautiful! With the musical accompaniment, the film has no problems. Soundtracks and melodies are not remembered, but viewing does not interfere and approach the action.
Of the clearly positive, you can distinguish the makeup of both Bigfoot himself and dead characters. In fact, from the first shot you can see that this is not the most high-budget film, but the murder scenes look really cool. Very spectacular, very impressive! It's a pity these scenes aren't enough. And the monster itself turned out to be quite creepy. To face such a one-on-one in the forest, would not want anyone.
In general, this is not the worst horror movie, with some plot flaws, but with an interesting idea about kidnapping women. There is nothing terrible in it at all, but in technical terms it is made very well, although not without flaws. We can safely recommend it for fans of films of category B, which are often shown on TV. For those who are interested in the subject of Bigfoot. I think that for a single viewing for the evening, it is quite suitable.
