As you know, everything happens in life, and a dizzying success can be followed by a fatal fall. However, even if this happened, it is not a sentence and not a reason to give up. It is important to try to adapt to the situation and in spite of the very failure to achieve success again. This is exactly what the Australian opera singer Marjorie Lawrence did, whose story formed the basis of the musical drama Interrupted Melody.
Marjorie Lawrence was born in the family of an ordinary Australian farmer, but since childhood she showed a genuine talent in music. She won the competition and received a unique chance to study the art of opera singing from eminent French teachers. This was followed by years of stunning success and tours of the world’s most famous operas. Although the most severe test was the fight against polio, she still found the strength to return to the scene.
In terms of play of actors the film made a very favorable impression. Actress Eleanor Parker, who played the role of Marjorie, embodied the image of a creative person who devoted most of her life to her beloved cause, but realized that she lacks simple human love, was ready to sacrifice much. Glenn Ford, who played the role of Dr. Thomas King, embodied on the screen the image of a devoted husband who did not leave his wife at a difficult moment in her life, but on the contrary, supported her in every possible way and even forced her to love life again.
The film “The Interrupted Melody” cannot be called a full-fledged biopic, since the director Curtis Bernhardt focuses on the creative path of Marjorie Lawrence, and does not take up the entire description of her life at that time. At the same time, he does not make a dry retelling, but, as it seemed to me, tries to convey to the viewer the idea that the singer was naturally talented. This is felt by the excessive detail of her performances, in the sense that the film is gradually perceived more as a musical than a regular drama. Although, perhaps, this is a drawback, since it lacked the image of Marjorie as an ordinary person, and not as a singer.
As already emphasized above, the script of the film focuses on the career of the main character. The film begins with the fact that Marjorie secretly from his father participates in a talent contest and, despite some overlays, successfully passes it and wins. As a reward, she receives a ticket to France, where she undergoes training in opera singing. Soon her talent reaches the stage, where she immediately wins the attention of the public. This is followed by a tour, acquaintance and marriage to Thomas. Everything in the life of the heroine is better than ever. But suddenly comes a black stripe - the heroine is struck by polio. Of course, she is ready to give up and has thoughts of suicide. But thanks to the support of her husband and sincere love of singing, she finds the strength to return to the stage.
Result In fact, Interrupted Melody is not a bad movie. Of course, in some ways it may seem simple, even banal, but it does not make a bad impression. Therefore, this movie can be safely recommended for viewing.
