She went through hell, but she was still an innocent child. The first thing I want to say about this movie is that it’s incredibly logical. I would call it a real guide for a novice psychoanalyst. The film very vividly shows how from a bright and cheerful child grows first a gloomy teenager, and then a nervous, ragged, unhappy young woman who is ready to do anything to just escape from this reality. This is a film about how the worldview changes, how faith breaks and love goes away.
On the one hand, the main character, Leia, was very lucky: for the first 7 years she lived in a prosperous family, with a loving father. And even the subsequent years of domestic hell could not erase the memories of what a real family is. If Leia had lived in a nightmare since childhood, she would not have loved her daughter with all her heart and would never have made the right choice. It is not for nothing that in the first years of life the basic ideas about life are laid. It was these happy years that taught Leia to love her mother. In the following years, she had no reason to love her mother. Her mother betrayed her twice, choosing a stranger instead of her own daughter. But even at the end of the film, as an adult, and well aware of all this, Leia managed to forgive both her mother and even her stepfather Ole.
The main character evokes a feeling of deep sympathy. Despite drug addiction, she remains a person with a very pure soul, the soul of a child. And this defenseless soul not only seeks love, but is also capable of sharing love itself. Therefore, on the one hand, the film is predictable, that is, the addiction to drugs of the main character, as a way to escape from reality, almost does not cause questions, and on the other hand, the film amazes how a person who has gone through a nightmare can remain so innocent and pure.
The only person I do not understand in the film is the lover of the main character. He loved her from school and it was clear that their love was real and strong. Why did he put her on a needle? Just because she complained about the void inside? Why couldn’t he fill the void with his love? This is completely incomprehensible to me.
Should I watch this movie?
Depends on what you're looking for. If you want a tough movie about drug addicts, with detailed scenes of breaking, working on the panel, humiliation and falling into the abyss - then the film is not about this.
But if you like life dramas about people who grew up in dysfunctional families, but at the same time kept a piece of kindness in their soul, then here you go.
I don’t know if this film is in Russian translation, I watched it in the original language with Russian subtitles. This added to the atmosphere of the film.
I bet for the movie
8 out of 10
It’s not a movie I’d want to watch over and over again, but overall I liked the way it was made. I also liked the acting. And I also liked how the film in several versions beat the name “angel”. There it is not only heroin, but also a small bookmark from a children's book, and the little girl herself.
