Strongly 'smeared' action So the first of O'Henry's plots - Peaches - unfolds 27 minutes - almost half of the film. Yes, during this time we are introduced to the characters, justify their further behavior and reactions - but 27 minutes! And if G. characters look quite normal - the rest on their background - parody of comedians of silent cinema. Plus, trying to insert gags into the plot is sometimes successful, often not so much that it is not clear that it was gag. The links between the novels are represented by the walk of the hero. These walks turned out to be longer in time than the plot of “Russian Sable” incompetently crumpled and not played at all.
According to the characters: Niyole Ozhelite is a bright touch in this nonsense, plays lively, in a theme. Kostas Smoriginas - he failed to play the "boyishness" so charismatically represented by the author of the literary source in his heroes. There is no arc of character - from almost a bandit, through love - to sacrifice.
A sprawling, very uneven plot - with allegedly funny inserts and lengthy approaches to the actual "body" of O'Henry's novels. Most of the scenes invented by the authors and their characters are wooden, to the taste of sawdust in the viewer’s mouth. The picture comes to life only approaching the lit. source.
