Crime never dies, it only changes faces. This is my first Indian film with so much violence, bloodshed, violence and indifference. Indeed, heavy film, tense and voice-over heartbreaking music adds a chill on the back. Almost every 10 minutes, shooting, blood. There are no songs or dances we are used to in Indian movies. Only once, somewhere in the middle of the film, a girl dances and sings, but even during that, a murder happens. The unpleasant residue remained at the moment when a small Babbar for the first time killed a person, with a cold-blooded, indifferent look, as if it should be, did not even blink. And that's a boy 11 or 12 years old. Scary...
A story about life. Death. About what's happening to all of us. The fact that we create our own destiny... The largest state in India is Uttar Pradesh. Here in excess of everything – population, poverty, corruption. Crimes... The history of Babbar began just in one of these towns - Amanganja. But even in a city where the air itself is saturated with the smell of blood, there are those who try to stay away from showdowns and stabbings. Such a man was the butcher (irony of fate!) Sarfaraz (Shakti Kapoor). It is he who once becomes a murderer involuntarily. A random pattern ... A natural accident... The local police chief arrives to investigate the murder Trivedi (Mithun Chakraborty). The commissioner spots a kid with an unfriendly look. For the first time, their eyes meet... Executioner and victim. The victim and the executioner.
Twelve-year-old Babbar with the arrest of his elders internally gives himself a certain sanction to join, finally, the beckoning "parallel" world. The guy has not been shy before in either expressions or ways to achieve his goals. Now the only “means of communication” with the outside world becomes a revolver. 11 years later, a complete scoundrel appears before us, shooting without warning and without thinking about anyone he does not like. A natural-born killer who terrifies anyone who has ever heard his name. He is the hero of our time.
In subordination Trivedi is Avadh Narayan (Om Puri). Although he is a policeman, and he was engaged in dirty deeds all his life, he covered up criminals for bribes. No, the impression he gave was quite consistent with the police uniform – even the Brahman ponytail was in place. The viewer, the viewing gives true pleasure - after all, the actors in the frame are not inferior to each other in skill and experience. Perhaps this is the only time that something like humor slips. In such a heavy and tough film it is expensive!
A few attempts to catch Babbar lead to nothing. And then Trivedi decides on a contract with a local bandit. This is how this bloody hunt continues, accompanied by voiceover comments. Gradually, almost all the heroes of this story become victims. The bloodbath followed one after another ... "Every corner of the world has its own Amanganj" ...
Is there a difference between the incessant carnage in other films and this one? Yeah. It makes a difference. And the difference is not only significant, but essential. The viewer, as scary as it sounds, is used to the blood and corpses on the screen. He is not surprised by the abundance of violence, nor by the broken fate of criminals involuntarily. How many times have we seen “unfortunate murderers” brought to life by such a circumstance. She just changes her face. . .
Ashu Trikha made an outstanding film! And removed it qualitatively, having worked out every semantic nuance, every accent. He knew that he was not the first to take up the “smelling and plowing” topic of rampant crime. You're right! The work of the cameraman also deserves words of gratitude! Rarely in our time, you can see a camera so “consonant” with the events taking place on the screen! Bravo!
The music is present in this filmed, rather in the manner of “parallel” cinema, mainly behind the scenes. Nevertheless, as they say, the duties assigned to her perform in good faith. I like all the compositions - each is good in its own way and is remembered for a long time.
And acting. It is impossible to name any actor who would not leave a deep trace in the soul of the viewer with his performing art! Mukesh Tiwari, Shakti Kapoor, Sushant Singh were amazing in the bright and different images they created! To Urvashi Sharma also no claims. Om Puri once again proved that he is rightfully considered one of the most outstanding actors of Indian cinema, able to embody on the screen a wide range of images. His vile, changing the face of circumstances, the “guardian of the law” causes both contempt and pity. Tinna Anand proved his uniqueness as a tragic actor in "The Path of Fire". Here he showed another example of impeccable acting! Soham Shah, in the role Babbar, does not give the impression of a beginner, quite corresponding to the level of venerable partners. Judging by one film, of course, difficult, but it seems that the guy has a great future!
We have already seen a lot of cool policemen performed by Mithun Chakraborty. However, for the first time, he appears not as a specific person - a Commissioner Trivedi, but rather as a metaphor, a symbol of violence, his ardent adherent "without fear and reproach." In his own infallibility and indestructibility, he does not doubt even a second before his death. A man whose duty is where he is by fate. Put it on the other side – the result will be the same ... Trived and Babbar – two mirrors, facing each other and infinitely multiplying their own curves of reflection. I think there is no need to say that Mithun coped with his task perfectly! Despite the fact that he played a cruel person, I could not feel anything negative towards him. He is a beloved man, besides he looks just great, despite the shifted eyebrows and with a weapon in his hand. He created an image completely consistent with the main idea of the film, and he as a genius actor managed to rise to a global generalization, a powerful metaphor that is rare even in a really high-quality film. After watching this film, my mother said this phrase: I was sure that we had already seen everything that this brilliant actor is capable of, but he nevertheless managed to surprise us again! I just don't know what to say... I just have a question: is there a limit beyond which only repetitions follow? I think there's no such limit! I can’t even single out some individual episodes that would make the most impression on me – everything is flawless. Who else in the world can do that? Why is it that every time the viewer has the feeling that Mithun himself is experiencing all this, and not just a fictional character! I was very impressed with this film.
