“Woe from wits” in a carefree children’s world 1976, the middle of the military junta, 4 years earlier took power. Young parents, who have infected their young daughter Manuela with their own pro-communist and atheist views, leave her with her younger brother Camilo for the summer to their grandmother and grandfather latifundists living in the rural wilderness. Ideological clashes of worlds are inevitable!
But it will pass in an easy, good way. Almost all ideological “fights” will take place in a carefree children’s world, which forms Manuela with Camilo and 4 more of their peers.
In two months, Manuela will face racism and discrimination stemming from the economic exploitation of the descendants of the white colonizers of the Indian population; defend his name in the fight against sexist prejudices; fight for the rights of the indigenous population; learn the secret of the “ghost” and even organize a strike!
Such loud terms are not the author of the review - it is in these words that the little main character speaks directly in the face of her grandmother. What is characteristic: the grandmother will throw in response the classics of social Darwinism “the poor themselves are to blame for their poverty”, while being an Indian woman herself, who successfully married a white master in her youth.
The other members of the family are very well selected. Grandpa latifundist chuckles at his nephew’s participation in the young oil business, although in just a couple of decades it is the sale of bananas and oil that will become the two main areas of the economy of Ecuador, while changing places.
In the Name of a Daughter is a very bright, positive film that will make you smile more than once. And if you like children – the movie is just a must see.
