"Pirates of the Caribbean" To get acquainted with the film I was pushed by 2 factors:
1) I really like pirate and marine themes.
2) Participation in the painting by Nicholas Rogers, who left an indelible impression after the “Cave of the Golden Rose”
The viewing was postponed for a long time "for later" in anticipation of the right mood. The stars finally came together.
The plot is based on the adventures of twin brothers, who are completely different both externally and in character. But even despite the separation, their fates are firmly connected: in parallel, they experience ups and downs, sorrows and joys, love and hate, both go to their goal and experience their becoming.
Fate played a cruel joke with them: both fell in love with one girl, and even from the enemy clan. After a series of tragic events, their paths diverge, seemingly forever. But life brings brothers face to face on different sides of the barrier. Legendary pirate against agent of the king, Evil Rock against Alexander Dubois, Ferrante against Hippolyto.
The film is shot in the best traditions of the adventure genre. Stunningly beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea and islands alternate with equally beautiful Italian architecture, its palaces and palazzo. And, of course, magnificent sailing ships. What a pity that modern ships, despite the technical equipment, in appearance so far from elegant and at the same time majestic sailboats of the past.
Stylistically, the era is shown very recognizably. The Golden Age of Piracy is yet to pass, but in the seventeenth century these gentlemen of fortune already had a strong position in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Smuggling, the slave trade, the seizure of ships, the war with any Royal Navy, all this was the case. How will the wheel of fortune turn and what will fall out: gallows or treasures and freedom? To play such a dangerous game you had to have a lot of courage and ingenuity. Perhaps that is why pirates and everything associated with them still arouse a keen interest.
A feature of the film is that pirates are shown not just as a gang of sea robbers, but as a Brotherhood, whose members exist according to a peculiar code. Each of them had their own reason to raise the pirate flag.
The plotline resembles a classic adventure novel, there are no holes and sags. The main characters are very well spelled out, you believe and empathize with them, you follow the turns of their fate with bated breath.
Ferrante (Nicholas Rogers) is brave and noble, lives by the laws of honor, brilliantly owns the art of fencing. Having fallen in love for the first time, he is a little lost, but treats the object of his love in a chivalrous way seriously and respectfully. Alas, everything is turned upside down. A romantic young man from an aristocratic family becomes the leader of pirates. An incredible metamorphosis, but having “buried” Ferrante and revived by the Evil Fat, he does not abandon his former principles and lives in accordance with his moral attitudes. The heart will long keep the memory of his failed love and the life that was taken from him.
Ippolito (Paolo Seganti) is intelligent and agile, often acting with his cunning, which allows him to benefit from seemingly the most hopeless situations. Able in intrigue, he becomes the best spy in the service of the French king, taking the name Alexander Dubois. Tormented by repentance from guilt before his brother, wanting to find him and beg forgiveness.
Livia (Anna Falci) is the fatal love of both Albrizzi brothers. Unfortunately, she could not understand her feelings in time and deceived everyone and herself in the first place. Her character did not arouse sympathy, rather the opposite. If you really love, then there can be no doubts and throws and talk. She, on the other hand, only “played love”, perceiving everything that happened as an amusing adventure. And yet Libya has paid too dearly for its frivolity.
Isabella (Jennifer Neech) is one of the female characters in the series that I liked the most. Not an example to follow, but in non-standard situations does not lose sobriety of mind, really assessing this world and its place in it. For all its practicality, it is capable of love. And how she goes amazing dresses of azure color, shaded with fiery red curls!
Malinke (Padma Lakshmi) is another female character, a girl from an Indian tribe. Devotedly loves Evil Rock, well, eventually, he'll love her. Character is not complicated, but she knows what she wants and will repeatedly save a loved one from the clutches of death.
Captain Devil's Tail (Mario Adorf) - The character is extremely colorful, despite the fact that he is a storm of sea robbers and can be cruel, many funny moments of the film are tied to him. Oster on the tongue, what his eternal hamstrings of Evil Rock are worth. In addition, he helped the latter to start a completely new life, not forgetting the good done to him. The old pirate treats Ferrante paternally, instructing and teaching the “mind of reason.” He has a beloved parrot to whom he is sincerely attached.
Play actors beyond praise, they literally lived on the screen of the fate of their heroes. This is a real gem among pirate movies. An exciting plot, piercing moments, emotions that replace each other like the colors of a sea wave. It was as if you were there aboard the Livia and other ships all this time, sailing under a black pirate flag, and the salty sea breeze blowing in your face and flapping your hair.
