Planet of Fear Without any semantic connection, the film immediately gets to the point – the “paratroopers” who wake up in flight find themselves in the jungle, trying to understand what is happening, and ten minutes later, without even having time to collect all human resources, find that these jungles are generally located on an alien planet. This is how the hunt begins. Hunting people, hunting on an alien unknown planet, hunting very dangerous creatures and a real struggle for survival. Here a man is a wolf to a man, and the name does not so much remind the viewer of the name of cult monsters, as it directly conveys the essence of the human factor.
The brilliant idea of pitting Earth’s most dangerous thugs against the most dangerous space hunters in a game of survival for the fittest is highly respected. An entertaining carnage with no beginning and no end, occurs suddenly and ends before logically ending. And the potential of the hunt remains unexplored to the end, as far as the plot could develop. “Predators vs. Aliens” was elementary replaced with “Predators vs. People”, and the whole concept of a squad in the jungle with endless anointings to the original, recalls not so much the very first film as directly “Alien vs. Predator” by Paul Anderson, repeating it much more lusciously in many details, including even uniting with the rogue Predator on the principle of “enemy of my enemy...” The result was a mix of everything previously available, an order of magnitude worse and weaker, and not even as spectacular as it could be.
Probably the key mistake was the appointment of Nimrod Antal to the directorial post, with his inability to deliver action scenes and introduce dynamics into the film. The shooting of spectacular scenes is lost in the tinsel of the environment, the angles jump in the annoying manner of Louis Latterrier’s films, and the action is staged so boring and inconspicuously, at the same time in moltenness, that you can not even make out who and when, that each such episode you want to wind back and overlook again in slow motion, and not for the reason of admiring anything, but directly to at least understand something in such a visual manner.
To criticize the film is a bit unnecessary. A good selection of music organizes almost the entire atmosphere (excluding the completely inappropriate melody of the final credits...), the jungle also came out with a very successful design of the scene, bright characters around which this whole planet of fear and horror, though in some ways very stereotyped, but this factor does not detract from their spectacular manifestation in the frame, and memorable types are supported by a bright acting appearance and quite interesting dialogues, one of which clearly connects the plot with the franchise, forming this film directly in the sequel of the whole story.
However, a bunch of small shortcomings and catches the eye. Scenario accuracy sometimes replaces plot elements of fun for the sake of scene-quotes, whose relevance does not care at all. Characters freeze for no reason, for a pathetic look into the distance, samurai find ancient swords, since this is elementary according to the type of yakuza, interesting characters will die before they have time to open up, just because now it was necessary to knock someone out of the game. We get a standard guilty pleasure, which is very entertaining at first glance, but does not go to any comparison, even with "PHC". Good ideas are ruined by the sloppy handling of their implementation, and such advantages of the film as old-school effects, costumes of the cast are blocked by a retreat from these advantages towards cheap graphics, when it is not natural explosions that cut the eyes with an abundance of cheaply painted fire, and computer "dogs" resembling a monster from the "Fellowship of the Wolf" in miniature, spoil their disgusting appearance of the impression of decent looking Predators.
Where it would be worthwhile to direct efforts and budget financing – they just do not exist, I want to build a visual in a completely different way, and animatronics would be much more. So that it was the attitude to the old cheekbone that caused delight, and not only the presence of famous alien monsters in the film. The film was successful, though not as well as it could have been. This is a good action movie, made on an extremely interesting idea and with a well-thought-out concept of the whole action, and at the same time with a large number of references to the original, which obviously will appeal to fans of the franchise. At the same time, Brody did not come out of the anti-hero warriors at all, Braga stubbornly mows under Michelle Rodriguez, and why Trejo and Fishborn were needed at all remains a mystery, apparently just for ticking and attracting fans. The film is definitely worth watching, for 1 time it is quite a good pastime, but here is what place these "Predators" will take in the hearts of fans - this is another big question.
