Surprisingly, with low ratings, the film came to me. I love neonoir and classic detective stories. Of course, there is nothing left of the book. I read James Ellroy, and the atmosphere is preserved there, and cinematography is very good, there is work without gluing and two tricks. The rhythm of the story is slow, as befits the films of the 40s. And the clutter for these films is read and understandable. But the only thing I didn't like was Josh Hartnett. He's here like an iron lumberjack. No emotional coloration. “A good detective is not ‘who killed’ but ‘why killed’.” – Donna Tartt I recommend it. 🤓
