For twenty years I was going to see this film, because in different groups from time to time they remembered about it, finally gathered. This is the film of the German director Thomas Jan "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" / Knockin' on Heaven's Door, 1997, in his rather extensive filmography this film stands alone, he received very high marks and met a very warm reception from the public.
Two main characters - Martin Brest (Til Schweiger) and Rudy Wurlitzer (Jan Josef Lifers) - meet for the first time on the train on the way to the hospital, where they were invited for examination. And then they find themselves together in the same ward in the hospital, and they were put there not for treatment, but to finish the last days that everyone has left to live, Martin has an inoperable brain tumor, Rudy has a bone sarcoma in the last stage. It seems that other than this, the characters have nothing in common, because Martin is such a devious violator of all rules, and Rudy is just a respectable guy. But everything turns out differently, finding a bottle of tequila in the nightstand, which is unknown how it turned out, they first go to the kitchen at the hospital at night to find salt and lemon there, with which it is supposed to drink, and then, pretty plucked, go to the underground parking lot and steal a chic Mercedes there, they did not know that it belongs to gangsters. Martin finds out that Rudy has never seen the sea, and once in the sky, without talking about the sea can not do, so they decide to go to the sea. Meanwhile, the gangster’s henchmen, two hapless jerks Henk (Thierry van Vervecke) and Abdul (Moritz Bleibtroy), discover that the car they drove on behalf of their boss to his boss, has stolen and begin to pursue the hijackers, otherwise they themselves will not malign, as their boss assured. Martin and Rudy, meanwhile, manage to first rob a gas station, because they found a gun in the car, then Martin robs a bank, then the police begin to chase them, but they always manage to escape. At the same time, they accidentally find out that it was possible to do without robberies, since there was a suitcase with a million in the trunk of their car. As a result, they still fall into the hands of gangsters, but then their biggest boss, who owned both the car and the money, and unexpectedly releases them, because he is aware of their history, they were filmed more than once by journalists, where their story turned out, and at first Martin portrays a bandit, and from Rudy makes a hostage, the boss understands their desire to see the sea, and soon Rudy finds out that Martin did not see him. They reach their goal, now they have something to talk about in heaven.
The film is made in the spirit of a dramatic crime comedy, despite such a heavy theme. It is true that sometimes there are doubts about whether such seriously ill people could have done this, but it is still a feature film, not a documentary. The actors also play great, so it looks good, I liked the movie.
