I won’t hide the fact that I saw this movie just because Cary Grant was in it. I really love how this actor plays, so I try to watch as many of his films as possible, it’s a pity that they were all shot relatively long ago, and therefore it’s not so easy to find them, but by a lucky coincidence “Operation “lower skirt” just fell into my hands and I looked forward to it. I liked the movie. Genre is a military comedy. I wouldn’t say it’s a military satire, because what happened in this film is funny, but it could have been, at least at the beginning of the film, but otherwise, I can’t believe that the film could have been made based on real events (hopefully it wasn’t). How could you paint a submarine pink in the Navy, or how could the captain allow women to board, taking into account the sea commandment (a woman on a ship, be in trouble) or the same women and children from some tribe, let them on board, and even with a goat? It is absurd, but most importantly, it works. It’s funny, and there is often no need for another from such films.
I liked the script. There were many funny moments, especially in the first half of the film. The main thing that was interesting was to follow the journey of the pink submarine. The cast was also impressed. In addition to the great role of Cary Grant, who wonderfully played the humorous captain of the same submarine, I also liked Tony Curtis in this film. Also, several female secondary roles were played well, which appeared in the second half of the film.
In general, a good film, with great actors, a good script (which, by the way, was nominated for an Oscar in this category), but it will appeal only to those who will treat this film as a military comedy, and not a satire on military themes, because if something is ridiculed, it should be at least true, and what is shown in this film is, of course, cool, but reality it can not be called even with a very large caveat.
