Tony was born on June 3, 1925 in New York to the Jewish family of Emanuel Schwartz and Helen Klein. His first character on the big screen was a rumba dancer in an episode of the movie Cross. In 1953, Tony and his wife, Janet Lee, played in Harry Houdini. The actor had incomparable popularity with the audience, but critics treated him with caution and neglect. Curtis was looking for serious roles, in 1957 he brilliantly worked in the film adaptation of Lehman’s play “The Sweet Smell of Success”.
