Etgar Keret was born in 1967 in Ramat Gan near Tel Aviv. He began his literary work in 1991 with articles for newspapers and scripts for theater productions. In recent years, Keret has lectured at the School of Cinematography at Tel Aviv University and written comedy scripts for television. Author of libretto for operetta and scripts for two films, awarded prizes at several European film festivals. Keret’s stories are constantly published in Israel in various collections and periodicals. He is the author of two comic books (together with artist R. Modan) and short story collections Pipes (1992), My Longing for Kissinger (1994) and Camp Kneller (1998), each of which for several weeks topped the bestseller list in Israel. In early 2001, the fourth collection of E. Keret “The Second Opportunity” was published. Books and many stories of this gifted prose writer, writing in the unconventional genre of postmodern absurdism, have been translated into English, German, French and some other European languages. He is the recipient of the Prime Minister of Israel Prize (1998). Keret, the Israeli literary critic argues today, is “a true writer who looks at himself with subtle and sincere irony.”
