In 1996, Luketic independently wrote and directed the short film Titsiana Booberini, about a cashier from a supermarket. The short film won the Queen Elizabeth II Achievement Award. After the film hit the Sundance festival, the director had a personal agent, and he was honored by several film companies.
The Australian decided to move to Los Angeles, driven by the dream of becoming a member of the Hollywood film industry. He worked on the scripts for two years until his debut. In 2001, Robert kept his promise and directed the hilarious comedy “Legally Blonde”.
In 2004, he shot the film “A Date with a Star”, which grew into the film “If Mother-in-Law is a Monster”.

The film tells about the real life of five students who developed a unique mathematical system through which they managed to win huge money in a casino in Las Vegas. The film featured Kevin Spacey.
