Bush became the first British band of the post-Nirvana period to achieve solid success in America. This happened because the team played a typical grunge, which for the British is an unconventional direction. The team was founded in 1992 by singing guitarist Gavin Rossdale, who summoned Nigel Pulsford (guitar), Dave Parsons (bass) and Robin Goodridge (drums). By the way, “Bush” was not the first group for all the guys: Rossdale started in “Midnight”, Pulsford rattled in “King Blank”, Parsons was listed in “Transvision vamp”, and Goodridge tapped in “Beautiful people”.
In 1993, the band signed a contract with the American label “Interscope” and began to create a debut album. In this work, the musicians were assisted by producers Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, known for their collaborations with Madness and Elvis Costello.
The release of "Sixteen Stone" was accompanied by an appearance on MTV video for the song "Everything Zen". Thanks to this support, album sales grew steadily and eventually climbed to the gold mark. In 1995, "Everything Then" reached number four on the American modern rock charts, and later "Comedown" and "Glycerine" topped these lists. Despite the rapidly growing popularity of "Bush", many critics specializing in the "alternative", treated the team with suspicion and considered the musicians to be ordinary upstarts.
To refute their opinion, the band hired Steve Albini to record their second album, producing Pixies, Nirvana and a bunch of other indie bands. The result of their joint work was the “Razorblade suitcase”, which naturally soared to the top of the Billboard.
