Since the age of seven, Stephen has been learning to play the guitar. The most remarkable is the fact that Stephen never knew the notes and all the works played by ear. By the age of 13, Stevie began performing in music clubs. By 1969, Stephen dropped out of school and focused his time and attention on music, perfecting the game.
During the 70s of the twentieth century, Stephen Ray performed with many musical groups, in particular, Krackerjack, The Nightcrawlers, The Cobras. In the autumn of 1977, Stephen assembled his own rhythm and blues band called Triple Threat Revue. It includes Stevie Ray, Lou Ann Barton, Freddie Walden, W.C. Clark, Mike Kindred. In the early 80s, the band took part in the San Francisco Blues Festival and soon changed their name to Double Trouble. In the spring of 1982, the band performed at a jazz festival in Montreal, where Jackson Brown noticed him and offered to help with the recording of the album, providing the musicians with their studio. In 1983 he released his debut album, Texas Flood, which was awarded a Grammy. Steven Ray and Double Trouble are invited to the musical television show Austin City Limits, where he defeats himself.
