Alexander Alexandrovich Vasiliev was born on October 4, 1867 in St. Petersburg. In 1892 he graduated from the historical and philological faculty of St. Petersburg University. In 1892-1897 he taught ancient languages at the 1st Gymnasium. He studied medieval history, Arab history and the history of Byzantium. After a three-year trip abroad (1897-1900), A.A. In 1892-1897 he taught ancient languages at the 1st Gymnasium. He studied medieval history, Arab history and the history of Byzantium. After a three-year trip abroad (1897-1900), A.A. Vasiliev defended his master’s (1901) and doctoral thesis (1902). In 1904 he became a professor at Yuriev University, worked at the Department of General History. Among the works of the historian are "The Political Attitude of Byzantium and the Arabs during the Amorian Dynasty"; "The Political Attitude of Byzantium and the Arabs during the Macedonian Dynasty (867-959)", "The Question of the Origin of Emperor Justinian", "On Greek Church Chants", "The Slavs in Greece", "The Origin of Emperor Basil Myacedonian", "A Trip to Sinai", "The Journey of the Byzantine Emperor Manuel Paleologus in Western Europe", "Padanti". The Age of Palaeology (1261-1453). In 1923 he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 1925 - a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR). In 1932 he emigrated from the Soviet Union. A. A. Vasiliev died on May 30, 1953 in Washington (USA).
