A father tells his son the invention of the wheel was most important; to prove it, the two hipsters visit the inventor caveman Donald Duck. There follows a survey of the progress of transportation, a digression into the basics of gear ratios, a series of live-action dancers to various styles of music inside a giant jukebox, an illustration of the use of wheels in power generation and space satellites, etc. Ultimately, Donald decides he doesn't want the responsibility, but certainly someone else would take on the task. close

People often found themselves speechless when they came face-to-face with the wisdom of Jesus—from the learned rabbis in the temple who were astonished at the words of a 12-year-old Jesus, to the victory over Satan who unsuccessfully tempted the Savior even after He had grown pale with hunger from a 40-day fast. This story begins with Jesus’ early years and follows with His triumph over Satan, marking the beginning of His ministry. close

Once Upon a Time… Man is a French animated TV series from 1978 directed by Albert Barillé. It is the first in the Once Upon a Time... franchise. The series explains world history in a format designed for children. The action focuses around one group. The same familiar characters appear in all episodes as they deal with the problems of their time.
The series' opening and ending title sequences famously used Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor as the main title theme music. Shortening the piece to only 2 minutes in length, the introduction uses the very beginning, which jumps into the start of the middle section and finally the dramatic ending to coincide with the destruction of Earth at the end of the intro. close

We learn the true stories behind various nursery rhymes. Little Jack Horner: a servant to a city official was delivering a present to King Henry VIII, baked, as was the custom of the time, in a pie. The present was the deed to a valuable estate, which Horner stole. Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary: Mary Stuart brought "quite contrary" French style to the Scottish court. After a series of disastrous romances, she was jailed; the jailer's son, captivated by her, helped her escape. After a brief but disastrous attempted coup, she fled to England, where her sister, Queen Elizabeth, soon grew jealous and had her imprisoned. London Bridge: The bridge, finished in 1209, was soon lined by shops with luxury apartments upstairs, turning into a popular commercial and cultural zone. The Great Fire that broke out in 1666 spread to the bridge, but the houses were rebuilt. Over the ages, things decayed. In 1823, things finally got bad enough that the bridge was demolished and replaced. close

In 1991, two animated films of the same name were released on the theme of the discovery of America: a 25-minute animated version of the US production (directed by Richard Rich, scripted by Brian Nissen) and a 16-part Italian cartoon series (authors - Miguel Gerberg, Ryuza Nakanishi, Nobuyuki Fujimoto). Both works are called “Christopher Columbus” and tell about the great navigator and his historical journey.
Discovery of America
While all the navigators were heading east to China and India, Columbus decided to sail west. With the financial support of the Queen of Spain, he outfitted the ship and set sail. But instead of the expected two weeks, it took a month to swim, and there was no land on the horizon. A little more and a mutiny could start on the ship. Fortunately, fate favors those who are not afraid of untrodden paths. The reward for the inquisitive navigator was the accidentally discovered new continent.
Adventure cartoons for family viewing “Christopher Columbus” are beautiful stories about a child’s dream, self-confidence and perseverance in achieving a goal.
At the heart of both plots are real facts from the life of the world-famous Spaniard of Italian origin, since childhood, when the boy grew up in the large Genoese family of Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa. Cristobal Colon (the name of Christopher Columbus in his native language) had a sister and three brothers, one of whom died as a child. Young viewers will be interested to know that Christopher Columbus was not a brunette, as it is customary to portray him in paintings. In fact, he was a tall, gray-eyed, white-skinned and red-bearded man with an eagle nose and early gray hair.
Myths and reality
Although Columbus made four voyages to the shores of the Americas, he is remembered for his first voyage in 1492, which resulted in the discovery by Europeans of an unknown continent (albeit with reservations, after the Vikings) and the beginning of the colonization of its indigenous population. This historical fact is the culmination of both cartoons.
The creators of the animated films “Christopher Columbus” managed to combine fascinating documentary with the inevitable share of artistic fiction that supports the interest of young viewers to historical and geographical details. close

This remarkable animated documentary traces the unconventional upbringing of the filmmaker Jung Henin, one of thousands of Korean children adopted by Western families after the end of the Korean War. It is the story of a boy stranded between two cultures. Animated vignettes – some humorous and some poetic – track Jung from the day he first meet his new blond siblings, through elementary school, and into his teenage years, when his emerging sense of identity begins to create fissures at home and ignite the latent biases of his adoptive parents. The filmmaker tells his story using his own animation intercut with snippets of super-8 family footage and archival film. The result is an animated memoir like no other: clear-eyed and unflinching, humorous, and above all, inspiring in the capacity of the human heart. close

An animated short by Bruno Bozzetto which condenses the whole of human civilization into 9 minutes, focusing primarily on the human race's predilection for warfare and the vanity of war. It was an Oscar Nominee for Best Animated Short in 1991.
Each piece of history is presented as a simple vignette, usually depicting a few simply-drawn characters arguing and making war, over and over again. Generally, a single figure is meant to stand in for an entire group (i.e., a single Caesar-like caricature for the entire line of Roman Emperors). There is very little spoken dialogue; instead, most of the cartoon is accompanied by a bouncy piano-driven score, which frequently changes style to suit the particular historical era. However, the score is all based around a single simple theme, to which it frequently returns in between vignettes. close
