“The Marriage of Jan Knucke” is a film that was destined to become the last silent film of the Lenfilm film studio.
The film is based on the script by Vsevolod Vojvodina and Yevgeny Ryss “Peace Prize” and tells about a funny, pathetic man who simultaneously tried to do two things at once – stop the flaring militarism and arrange his personal happiness.
The film has undergone quite strong changes: in the spirit of the times – the mid-30s of the last century – it was cut a lot of scenes of political orientation. As a result, the Peace Prize was renamed the Marriage of Jan Knocke.
The painting has not survived. close

Three fellows dream of prize money and a chance for a real Hollywood contract by winning the Liberty-Pete Smith amateur movie contest. They work on a script, as their wastebasket and ashtrays fill. They head outside to shoot: down a manhole, up a telephone pole, through a keyhole, and at night using binoculars. Next they must edit their film, then it's time for a first screening of their product, "The Afternoon of a Rubberband." It's a montage of experimental images, including a razor blade cutting various objects, a baby in a cooking pot, and a snail in the path of a steamroller. After the screening, the boys wonder if that was their only shot at Hollywood fame. close

From the start, Vertov made himself known as an irreconcilable enemy of “acted films,” which he regarded as a violation of truth. At the peak of World War II, however, such lofty artistic principles proved impractical. Vertov’s poetic and patriotic For You, Front! is a fiction film with a script and two actors. In a letter to her fiancé, a soldier on the front, Saule asks if there is anything he needs from “our beloved Kazakhstan.” Yes there is, he replies: lead, which can be used to make bullets to kill the enemies of “our beloved country.” close
