At thirty-seven, Miri is a twice-widowed, El Al flight attendant. Her well-regulated existence is suddenly turned upside down by an abandoned Chinese boy whose migrant-worker mother has been summarily deported from Israel. The town of Zinkov, where in the 1930-1950s people of different nationalities and confessions lived in peace and harmony, is actually a paradise that was not on the map of the former USSR: mysteriously, it simply “falled out” of the field of view of the totalitarian system. It calmly and naturally coexisted Orthodox Church, Jewish synagogue, church and heritage of Islam - the old Turkish fortress. In Zinkov lives the main character of the picture, Motl-Shotchen, matchmaker “from God”: as a real mediator between people and worlds, he goes from village to village, from house to house, “creating love”, creating harmony of human destinies. Motle believes in life with all his heart and serves it.
But now, the system inevitably breaks into Zinkov, torn from the world, and with it the war. The idyllic life of the town collapsed, and with it the life of Motl, who lost his loved ones. Having lost his world, he leaves both faith and service. But life and love are stronger than war and death: Motla is supported by all those whom he helped, and gradually he comes back to life.

A dysfunctional family and delayed puberty make life miserable for a pre-adolescent growing up in Jerusalem in the 1960's. When Herzl (155 kilos), the main protagonist, loses his job as a cook and starts working as a dishwasher in a Japanese restaurant in Ramle he discovers the world of Sumo where large people such as himself are honored and appreciated. Through Kitano (60 kilos), the restaurant owner, a former Sumo coach in Japan (who is supposedly hiding from the Yakuza in Israel), he falls in love with a sport involving "two fatsos in diapers and girly hairdos".
