On May 33, 51, according to the new chronology, clones of people who moved to the planet Earth-B encounter a strange mirror disk that invaded the planet’s atmosphere. The attempt to destroy the mirror disk almost cost the colonists the loss of the atmosphere of the planet. So begins the first feature-length animated film from the trilogy about the lost Planet, work on which was conducted for 8 years (from 2002 to 2010). But unlike other similar animation projects, only one person worked on the film, who acted as a screenwriter, director, operator, 3D animator, special effects director, editor, sound engineer, designer, producer, selection of actors and their voiceover. It's not a commercial project, so I had to do so many jobs. The second film of the trilogy "Lost Planet 2 - Beyond the Event Horizon" was released in 2016. The third film of the trilogy "Lost Planet 3 - Heavenly Pendulum" was released in 2021.
Moscow engineer on his home computer created a fantastic trilogy about the Lost Planet Engineer Dmitry Petrov single-handedly created a four-hour animated trilogy about the future of Earth civilization. The whole project – from the script to the voiceover – was executed on a home computer in his spare time. The work on three films took the author almost 20 years
Petrov-production presents ...
By the early 23rd century, the Earth had run out of resources and humanity was rapidly dying out. Two centuries later, humans were completely replaced by clones. After leaving the depleted Earth, they moved to another planet. The beginning of the trilogy resembles famous post-apocalyptic plots, and the plot is not inferior to Hollywood blockbusters. Clear graphics, bright pictures and a well-twisted script quickly found their audience: on the YouTube channel of Petrov hundreds of thousands of views and a lot of admiring reviews. Surprisingly, Dmitry himself is not a professional director: he works as a leading engineer at the Research Institute of Television, and is engaged in computer animation at his leisure. Even as a child, I was excited about the idea of making a movie, says Petrov. My father bought an amateur film camera without sound recording, and together with classmates we tried to shoot short films about the Great Patriotic War. And when the age of computers came, I began to embrace the power of digital technology. So appeared virtual studio XXI Century Petrov Productions.
The first product of the home film industry Petrov was a 12-minute animated video. And then came the epic trilogy.
Initially, a half-hour animated film was planned, which I thought I would finish in a couple of years, recalls Dmitry Petrov. - It was 2002. But I couldn’t resist writing the script. It ended up being an hour and a half movie that cost me eight years of work. I have filled my hand practicing technologies that are used in large studios with a lot of staff: I learned to do the same alone on a home computer. One of the heroes gets to Golyanovo
Further the work of Petrov went faster. The second film about the adventures of fantastic heroes he made in three years. And the other day the author has finished work on the last part of the trilogy. In it, the heroes returned to the lost planet, that is, our long-suffering Earth, to learn the main secret. Petrov worked on the third film for almost 2.5 years.
Clones are trying to restore the Earth after human economic activity. The plot of the third film is interwoven with different historical events, it is a kind of attempt to rethink world history, if you will. How do you imagine the world 500 years ago? I tried to show everything that distant descendants can remember about us, the author summarizes. By the way, one of the episodes of the third film takes place at the metro station Golyanovo: during the experiment, a character from 2029 fails in 1943. Since this station has not yet been built, Petrov developed his own design.
