Caserta Township, 1976. In order not to rattle into the army, recently graduated from school Faustino Charamella (Antimino Merolillo) must prove that he works as a guitarist and is the only support of a widow mother. But getting the slippery impresario Raffaele Nigro (Ernesto Maye) to sign a contract is harder than expected. Faustino plays in the orchestra of Domenico Falasco (Toni Servillo) – until one beautiful summer evening the tour ends in the village of Roccamonfina. Then impresario Raffaele agrees that Faustino-Johnny will be the personal assistant of the visiting musician Augusto Riverbury (Fabrizio Bentivoglio).
