Demons in Daylight is a short melodrama by a young American director Eric Marx. The film is non-commercial, almost entirely made on charitable donations, so its plot is devoted to the acute social problem of insufficient attention to the spiritual needs of the elderly. Many have retained the capacity for work and creativity, but the world belongs to the young. And so the doors to the elderly are slammed, leaving them no chance of a full life.
The hero of this film is an elderly, but still cheerful and attractive artist of the dance genre. In his later years, he decides to pursue his dream and try to find a job in Hollywood. His determination and energy are great, so the unattainable peak is conquered, but success comes at a price at any age. close

Béla Fleck: How To Write A Banjo Concerto follows banjo trailblazer Béla Fleck through one of his most challenging musical journeys so far: into the world of the Symphony Orchestra. Béla is commissioned to compose a major banjo concerto, possibly the first of its kind, for banjo and 80 piece symphony orchestra. The film also digs into "father issues", with Béla being named after classical composers by an absentee father. Composing this piece forces Béla to confront these issues. close

While the studio recordings of Chicago's Jesus Lizard are part of the canon of 90s indie rock, anyone who saw them knows their reputation as the live band of that era is completely accurate. This film captures the original quartet in 1994 playing to a packed and frenzied crowd at the Venus de Milo in Boston. The band's workman like approach to their taunt, pummeling sound is contrasted by front man David Yow's Dionysian revelry as he whips himself and the crowd into an ecstatic mess. This 2-camera shoot catches all the blood, spit and sweat of a truly killer live band at their peak. close

Moleman 3 is a documentary diary about a journey from the underground to the cultural surface. Music styles and artists ignored by record labels and the mainstream media didn't have much chance of getting wide recognition back in the day. The digital revolution changed everything. The internet and digital technology, accessible to everyone, reshaped the music industry completely. The significance of record labels which controlled mainstream music has changed and decayed. For genres building themselves up from the bottom, success was once unimaginable without a record label and money. As of today, thanks to the digital revolution, it can easily be done. close

In 1881, after being met by the pa's children holding white feathers of peace, invading constabulary ended Te Whiti and Tohu's passive resistance at Parihaka in Taranaki. One of the darkest episodes of the NZ Wars, it is revisited in this documentary made by Paora Joseph, which follows another group of Taranaki children undertaking an emotional, modern day pilgrimage to the South Island jails where their ancestors were exiled and forced to labour. Footage of their hikoi is interwoven with their poetry, song, art and narration. close
