There are pros and cons to the movie.
The advantages include a mystical atmosphere, a good performance of actors. In a couple of moments it was even creepy (someone scraping at the door of the professor's room, for example). Perhaps accustomed to modern horror, I was constantly waiting for something creepy, terrible, but it was not. The time when the film was created was not rich in amazing special effects and screenwriters saturating the film with bloody scenes. But it didn’t get any worse.
Cons. The most obvious thing for me is predictability. By 10 minutes, I knew who was who and I was waiting for the director to finish the film. But then again, I've seen a lot of these movies, so I can predict the plot. But at the time when the creators created this film, this plot was a novelty, and I can assume that many viewers were surprised by such an unusual twist of the plot.
The film itself is not bad, I did not notice any obvious disadvantages against it.
