Since early childhood, Geraldine was engaged in dancing, and at the age of eight she entered the Educational School of Art, a boarding school in Hertfordshire, a county in the south-east of England, where she received a choreographic education. After graduating from boarding school at the age of 16, she moved to London and there continued to improve in the art of dance. Somerville studied at the London School of Music and Drama.
She made her television debut in Poirot and Disaster (1993). These were small, episodic roles. In December 1995, Geraldine married William Osborn-Young, to whom she bore three children. The eldest son Kasper was born in May 2002.
