She doesn't like my mustaches! (c) Dear Editorial Board, I am very disappointed that I was not at all impressed by the Stephen Fry film, which starred James McAvoy, David Tennant, Mark Gatiss and Peter O'Toole.
"Golden Youth" can be compared to "Moris", where Hugh Grant starred. Young heroes, talented, striving for fame, wealth and entertainment, several successful dialogues and beautiful shots. That's all the movie has to offer. For some reason, I feel desperately sorry for the character of David Tennant, he, the owner of a fortune, seemed naive compared to the main character who sold and bought his own lover. Judging by the movie, it's the only way to get her back. It’s a century, it’s a method, but... like many movies where a couple reunites after an infidelity/separation, I don’t believe in them anymore.
Very bright moment when the heroes learn about the beginning of the war; it seems as if the light fades, grief piles up at once, the bright lights of parties go out. The female characters of the film are a separate conversation, weak, mercantile, hysterical, they become the first victims of their century. The novel in which the film was made, unfortunately, I did not read.
The most vivid impression of the film, Tennant inspiringly says: "I know I'm ugly." She doesn't like my mustache."" I liked his role, a surprisingly adequate, firmly standing young man. And in general... as long as Nick Cave exists, all mustache owners can sleep peacefully: they all have mustaches.
However, the film is not about a mustache, and it is not worth watching for the sake of one phrase. I’m not saying it’s a bad movie, but I expected a lot more from Stephen Fry.
