“The road” sharpens the value of life to painful sensations. And that's a huge plus of the movie. Unfortunately, the film is too long and annoying in many places.
The creators wanted a real atmosphere. Alas, they only partially achieved it. Yes, the characters are qualitatively plagued and with dirty hair. However, the picture of the world is limping. If you turn off the colors, the world will not look atmospheric. That doesn't make him look real. All right, grey sky, grey trees... But there had to be bright things that stood out from the background. Same flare. After all, they are specially painted in an acid-orange color. They'd shoot it in the bronze. Another huge problem is that the main character introduces us to the course of the matter. But we must be as alien as possible to the heroes. We can't be for them in principle. Breaking the fourth wall in this case catastrophically destroys the atmosphere.
Dialogue. I would argue that survival narrows a person’s thinking, makes him less philosophical. Yes, the viewer is interested in thinking about the big issues in the context of the disaster. But not heroes. In this regard, the mother is especially impressed. Her behavior is the height of meaninglessness. Dialogues at the level of “It is necessary”, “We should”, “We should not” tire. Have you tried to develop a thought? Eh, in the '50s in Hollywood, the character used to deliver a pompous Captain Obvious speech in which everything was told in plain text. Now he was replaced by the Hollywood of the XXI century with the revelations of the hero “because gladiolus”. Both extremes are bad.
In the course of the story, you never cease to wonder how the heroes managed to survive so long with such carelessness. They are clogged into pits without observation of the terrain and insurance in the form of primitive alarms, for example, from empty cans. I'm surprised they haven't been eaten. It is also surprising that the conscience of the world is a boy born after the disaster. It would seem that for him the world of complete alienation and danger should have been natural.
The film was advertised as a good drama. She's really good in some places. But alas, too often there is alienation.
