Capture Hostage capture is one of the most common plots for various action films and thrillers. Such films are often a priori tense, since one worries about hostages one way or another, and at times much more than for the main character, eager to save them. And despite the already predictable outcome, the thriller succeeded.
What in the original film was built and served competently planned operation to capture, here fit into a beautiful prologue, instantly giving the signature style of Tony Scott. You can guess the editing, the camera work and everything else, no credits are needed to immediately guess the director. That is what a certain highlight is. Dynamic and very stylish visually, devoid of distractions and debris and with a clear placement of accents. Such plots should not be surprising, they should keep in suspense and even frighten individual scenes, which turned out perfectly due to the demonstration of realism in actions and events.
Immersion into the story is achieved quite quickly, and now and then you want to take all events under your own control, while everything develops completely different and quite interesting. Based on conversation and dialogue, the film reveals all its main characters as much as it needs. He's very serious, despite having some really funny humor. It looks very holistic and dynamic. If the film falls apart on anything, it’s the quotes that make a great impression in our dubbing. It is also necessary to note the fact that the available humor does not defuse the tense atmosphere and atmosphere of the film, and the realistic cruelty is really striking.
The problem is that this time, Tony Scott seems to have decided to play his own style too much. It so happened that already Tony Scott plays Tony Scott, engaged in repetition, self-citation and deepening of style where it is no longer necessary. Stop-frames with slow-motion shooting, repeated from time to time with a flying helicopter do not give an opportunity to capture the beautiful urban landscapes spectacularly shown in the prologue. The rotating computer panorama of the satellite now and then hints that the director also shot “Enemy of the State”, and especially not the necessary countdown to the appointed deadline with stop frames, although it gives this specificity of waiting, but will laugh too secondarily. But this is all Tony Scott, and this time he stuffed the film with his signature elements, mixing almost all his filmography in the style and visual range of the picture.
It would seem that what could be exciting in a film about a standing train and negotiating? Anyone would prefer to watch Capture 2 with Steven Seagal, where the train moves, and the carriages with hostages are much more than one and solid stunts. But nevertheless, in what, and in the dynamics of "Dangerous Passengers" can not deny. The film is not boring, and all negotiations and dialogues are written with clear content, without empty and unnecessary chatter. The action itself is performed at a height, although it is not so much in the film. There will be shooting, there will be overturned cars, running around the city and bloody murders. The spectacular part turned out to be very highly appreciated, pleasantly delighting with the staging of scenes and camera work, and, of course, the special effects themselves.
Even after watching the original film, in general, you forget that you are in front of a remake, and no longer look for similarities and quotes that are actually easily noticeable. Everything looks very modern, new, and stresses the film that this can actually happen on any day in any major city. Not so important is the degree of tension of a particular scene, sustained by the cries of the invader, the corresponding music and the pistol attached to the forehead of the hostage, but the facts and specifics of the action.
Despite the rather peculiarly strained ending and the constant immersion into the inner world of the two main characters, in the opposition of which lies the main plot, even once again showing that opposites not only fight, but also interact with each other, and on each dark half there is a white spot, and in each white there is a black dot, it is still impossible to list with certainty the clearly raised problems with their solution and say that the film has a deep meaning. No, this is most likely just a competent and cruel thriller with elements of an action movie. This is a good action, keeping in suspense and with a rapid dynamics of action. This is Tony Scott's most signature film in the video style, and here are perfectly played by Danzel Washington and John Travolta. And of course, I can’t help but highlight two actors from Transformers 2 in the cast, small roles of Ramon Rodriguez and John Turturro embodied quite bright secondary characters.
In such films, you should not wait for shocking plot twists and look for some deep message, they just need to watch and enjoy the spectacle, a stylish picture from Tony Scott, the charisma of Travolta and Washington, and in general to be distracted from pressing affairs in worries about hostages, whose number sometimes decreases sharply. A good action movie, good action, tense thriller - these are the epithets that will reflect the main characteristics. However, for a trip to the cinema to this wonderful film enough information that this is a new work of Tony Scott.
