The movie's tagline is "The deeper you go, the weirder life gets." To attribute the film to any particular genre will not work. The film is dedicated to Jacques-Yves Cousteau, but is not a serious film about explorers of the deep sea, which was Cousteau, although the main character is quite famous in his circles and does just that.

The film, as always, is about people, about their relationships, quite confusing, I must say. The main character goes on his next expedition to take revenge on the terrible shark that ate during the last expedition of his closest friend and colleague. Everything turns out to be quite difficult - there is no one to finance the expedition, the millionaire wife refuses, moreover, does not go with him, although she has always been the brain of expeditions. True, out of nowhere appears a young man Ned, whose mother Steve was once close and who, perhaps, could be his son, but this will not be easy. But Ned has money from the inheritance he received and they still go on an expedition. Unfortunately, there will be adventures and tragedies. Wes Anderson, as he usually does, shoots many actors from film to film, in this case it is, of course, Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. The film was also shot in its characteristic manner, visually interesting, and, as I understood, all the “sea depths” and their inhabitants were modeled, you will not see this anywhere, i.e. it is completely intentionally unrealistic. I loved the movie, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who loves Wes Anderson.
